This morning's lancashire telegraph reports that:

Souness has told them "I am not your man"

Williams has a clear target and that is allerdyce and they expect him to be named as boss within 48 hours.

There is also an interview with JW where he talks about once etc.

Only in the paper version?

Allardyce has drifted a bit this morning a bit from his odds-on favorite position and Souness has shortened.

I have a sneaky feeling Curbishley may be the one the board choose to approach although the fact that he announced he would be interested means it probably hasnt happen or wont...

Allardyce has been quiet... Although what the LT is basing their assumptions on is unclear...

I doubt Souness would tell us he wouldnt be interested when Murray comes out last night the way he did about Souness dying to be back in the PL.

How the fark do Sunderland get linked with Mancini and Schuster and we get BFS and Souness?

When Bolton got rid of Little Sammy Incompetent I recall lots of jollity being spread around on here about the fact that our only possible replacements appeared to be the Ginger Mourinho (aka Gary Megson) or old Whirling Eyes Souness. I must admit I couldn't see the funny side at the time. I can now. ;)

Assistant boss Ray Mathias is in temporary charge and insisted the week would follow a normal course.

He said: 'It's a massive disappointment Paul has gone. You can see it in the players' eyes. But we are professionals.'

"Would those eyes be the professionals who popped over to Dublin to support their manager, in which case it might be the remnants of a good night out that he sees in their eyes . "Brilliant"

I'm rather worried that the week will follow a normal course! I want 3 points.

My dream team would be :

BFS as Manager

Souey as 1st team coach and

Dennis Wise as Director of football.

Hopefully Doug Ellis can buy the club and change the set up every three months after appointing Peter Ridsdale as CEO.

I would write more, but the nurse wants to give me my medication.

Just for those who forget.

Henning Berg commenting on Souness quitting Blackburn:

"I know Souness as a manager and he has got several weaknesses. It will depend on who comes in, but it should be good for Gamst Pedersen's development," said Berg. "I will not comment on what the weaknesses of Souness are, but results in the past have been weak considering the players and money the club have. It's good for Blackburn as a club too, I'm in fact a bit surprised that Newcastle chose him. "It's hard to say how good Blackburn can do this season. Souness has managed to sell several of the best players: Damien Duff, David Dunn, Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole.

exactly. i read Hennings biography, and he had few if any good things to say about souness. Training was bad. very bad. He had no social antennas in the dressing room - probably true. now i dont remember the details in the book but i will check again if souey becomes a real target. long story short - souness was a terrible manager according to berg. and henning berg know what a GOOD manager is. alex ferguson, kenny and Egil Olsen (for norway was top notch).

Well, after knackering myself out dancing a happy jig all day following The Ego's departure, in the cold light of day we have few reasonable choices....

Allardyce - wont come. His ego was bruised when we gave the job to Ince in the summer. Also has too many detractors in the boardroom (apparently). Would be my no.1 choice though.

Souness - worth a shout. On the plus side, knows the club and a sizeable majority of the players. Would instill a fighting spirit and might just save us. On the down side, archaic training methods and quite frankly is a bit bonkers. Would be my choice though, even if only to see a banner in Blackburn End at the end of the season with 'Chop Souey' written on it after we get relegated.

Keegan - Please God NO ! We would end up with a goal difference of -75 with him in charge. Doesn't have the balls or credentials for the fight in my opinion.

Grant - Not sure. Didn't really impress me at Chelski, although nearly won Champions League. Not sure.

Bilic - Yes please. Might come. Not sure about tactical nouse though - shown up badly against England recently, but then was locking horns with Capello......which leads me nicely onto.....

Capello - Would chew my own leg off to get him to Ewood. Now, back to reality.....

Curbishley - Oh dear. Do we have to ? Has never impressed me. Doesnt seem to have the presence we need to galvanise the players for the fight. Then again, what do I know ?

O'Leary - O'Dreary more like. No thanks.

Coyle - Big risk, no Prem credentials. We need someone with experience. Would have added bonus of p**sing off Burnley though....

Irvine - No. No experience.

Shearer - That old chestnut again. No chance, and no thanks. Romantisism will get us relegated.

Mancini - Yes please ! We need some decent pasta outlets near the ground. Would he really come though . Milan one day, Blackburn the next ??????

Jones - Not sure. Mixed track record. Wouldn't be on my list.

McCarthy - Can't get past his nose. Ok as RoI manager but not broken any pots with Wolves. Would be a risk and strikes me as a bit abraisive.

Keane - The ex-Sunderland manager, not the rock band. No thanks. Nut Job.

Houllier - Bit google-eyed but could be a success. Likeable bloke with lots of experience. Good shout in my opinion.

Ericsson - Isn't he shagging some Mexican dollybird in Cancun whilst moonlighting as their national coach ? Alledgedly. Sorry Nancy.

Can't think of anyone else really..........

Accyrover

Kamy's LT comment trumps this lot but here goes:

Telegraph suggest Souness- given that paper's recent track record, avoid putting money on Souey then!

Ditto the Express

Quick point on Dave Jones- his Premiership statistics for games won etc is actually amongst the best. He lost his job over that farce of a Court case.

Philip the headlines in the Daily Telegraph sports section are

Rovers eye Allardyce

You have to remember though do you want a manager the players like or one that is successful ?

Apart from the final few months, Souness was the latter.

Brian Kidd was the former.

Not one of the names interests me, nor fills me with hope.
Sums it for me. The suggested are as boring as paint drying, mind you I was totally unimpressed when we signed Ince so I suppoose nothing has changed

I also worry how all fans, will react. As lots have said we cannot be divided over the new man.
I doubt if we will be as the list is so dull it's not going to raise any real passions.

Haven't managed to read all 30 pages, but from what I've read/heard I'm surprised there's not more mention of Chris Coleman. Obvious link to the club, managed in the Prem quite successfully before with an unfashionable club. Hardly setting the world alight with Coventry mind, but that means he'll probably be easily prized away if need be.

I wonder why Rovers are hoping to have someone in place by saturday.... are we not in danger of 'frying pans and fires'?

How can we fully assess the options in a couple of days?

Bloody 'ell, I have just employed a new project manager and it took me weeks to find the right person.

Dont forget JW, Allardyce has already failed the interview - what has changed in 5 months? Dont go there...please

Your next appointment is the difference between swimming or drowning

I doubt it was a couple of days. More likely to be weeks.

He didn't fail the interview, he failed the test...the facebook test. :P

Big sam is surely the obvious choice.

Manchini, Grant, Schuster etc would all be a massive risk - yes they all have talent and experience abroad but none of them have much experience in a relegation fight in the english prem with limited resources.

Big sam to be in before Friday.

Schuster were in a little club before Real Madrid. Getafe have the same resources or less than Rovers !! I think Schuster would be a massive signing compared to the others.

We need a new manager in place soon to get rid of the likes of Mathias and Winterbum. We wont of only been looking for a new manager for a day or two, they put several calls out over a week ago so they have obviously been assessing those available. They have probably already contacted several including Allardyce and Grant so they know the options.

As for Allardyce, he never failed the interview he was simply not given a chance because we tried the same model as Hughes i.e. Young and upcoming with bright future, however this time it didnt work.

Just a hunch with Big Sam
