Presty On Tour Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 We have already been linked with several ex players in the press although it would seem to be lazy journalism imo. The main priority's have to be a right winger and a right back. Although Emerton has been one of our best players this season, i still think his best position is central midfield. Simpson is not good enough yet and Ooijer is a centre back. Ince failed to replace the loss of Bentley and this must be seen to asap. I don't think nobody knows how many pennies are available but success in this January window could be the difference between going down and staying up. The board must back him as much as possible!

Billy Castell Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Could there be a return for.................................................Kevin Davies???? Hell, I'd be happy to see Stuart Ripley on the right wing after the last few months.
LeChuck Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 We have already been linked with several ex players in the press although it would seem to be lazy journalism imo. If you're referring to the post greggyk made...didn't he make that up himself?
walk down bolton road Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Now they have appointed Sam they have to back the man financialy in the January transfer market. No half measures, with free transfers or players on trial. If ever there was a time to spend money it is now.and with has mutch money has possible.
Hughesy Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 The current squad as it is, 6-8 squad, its just under-performing and low on confidence and tactically naive. If Allardyce can get the likes of Pedersen, Dunn & Nelsen back to the players they were. And stabalise the performances of Benni, Warnock & Samba then we will soon start winning games. Then give him some cash and let him get us a right winger as 1st priority.
mckenny16 Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I've got no problem with players coming in on a trail or free transfer. I seem to remember quite a few of Hughes' best players coming in that way. (Nelson and Samba to name two). If Sam brings in fantastic players on the cheap through this method, I'm happy. But if some investment is needed, the board have to back BFS. He can work wonders in the bargain market, but with the short time he has had a the club and the lack of time he will have spent looking at scouting reports etc, he won't know of the best bargains.
DudeAbides Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 always had an eye for good players while at bolton...

RevidgeBlue Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Someone on another thread posted the following rumours which have already surfaced through the media. RSC out - Spit the Diouf in. Would be very unhappy with that. Nolan in - Would be very happy with that Roberts swap for Davies MK 2 - would be very happy with that Thing that struck me was that at least there is something happening, there didn't seem to be any real indication of anything much happening in January before Ince left.
LeChuck Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Rev...as I posted above, wasn't that greggyk messing around?
Amo Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 We're gonna get linked with a megaload of players now Big Sam's manager. I think it'll be very hard to separate the fact from fiction.
RibbleValleyRover Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Can't see Nolan coming, he hates Rovers. Diouf? no thanks. Davies? no thanks. We will be linked to numerous players he has worked with but i will be surprised if we make a move for any of them. Greggyk made a prediction on who we will be linked with starting from tomorrow.
joey_big_nose Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I would say the most obvious thing BFS will go for is a powerful striker. Concievably Cruz could play on the right in the 4231 formation he goes for, but not really as the big man up front as he is not that physical a player (you could see that against Wigan where he got beaten in the air every time). Funnily enough on rof Ince's targets fits that role, but I am sure Allerdyce will know of plenty out there who can do a job. If Bolton really are interested in Roberts and we can swap him for Davies that is a done deal! On the other hand I find it extremely hard to believe they would go for such a dud swap. Nolan would be nice, but seeing as we already have Dunn and Carlos who would want that role it is not a priority. After the striker a right winger would make sense, potentially followed by a central defender. But I guess it depends on what bargains Allardyce can rustle up and what sort of funds we give him. Personally I think we could see a lot more out of Pedersen under the new manager.
LeChuck Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I would say the most obvious thing BFS will go for is a powerful striker. Anelka wasn't powerful, or even that hard-working really. If Santa Cruz does go I think it will be a quality striker, whether they're powerful or not will be secondary.
Amo Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Hasn't Davies signed a new contract with Bolton? People will groan but he's a very underrated player. People rave about Heskey now, and Davies is similar to him. He works hard and does the dirty work to the benefit of his team-mates.
LeChuck Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I'm not sure why everyone is assuming Allardyce loves Davies. He bought him on a free when Bolton got promoted and had no money to spend, used him a striker in the early years then shunted him out to the wing when he was given a bit of money to spend. He didn't go for him at Newcastle when he could have done, I'm not expecting a move for him now either.
sam_rovers Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 cant be worse than fowler.... I hope Sam has kept up to date and already has drawn up a list of players he'd like to scout
tcj_jones Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 As a side note, who does he get rid of? My wish list: Derbyshire Roberts Treacy Reid Fowler Andrews
benhben Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Pennant on Loan could be a decent choice until the end of the season. Not a great player and probably wouldnt want to pay what liverpool would ask for him. But at least would give us some genuine width and pace down the right.
mark Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 cant be worse than fowler.... I hope Sam has kept up to date and already has drawn up a list of players he'd like to scout he's not daft, i'm sure he was almost as active as other managers whislt out of a job. i am massively optimistic that we'll get out of this. c'mon big sam!
roverich Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Can't see Nolan coming, he hates Rovers. Diouf? no thanks. Davies? no thanks. The way our forwards (RSC aside) and wingers (NONE aside) have been playing, those two would be superb signings!
