I was never intending on him being a direct first teamer, i was thinking he could be a good player to remind Gamst his position in the squad isn't automatic. He wouldn't be expensive and he is decent, and has done well at the clubs he has played at.

He was signed from Slavia Prague by Marseille because of his impressive performances, had a good season but was loaned out after a change in manager and formation that didn't suite him. Panathinaikos decided agains't signing him fair enough. But he had a quality season on loan at Hearts which is why Soton signed him. When Southampton had their issues he was put back from his regular LM positition to LB, he did well at LM and did okay at LB. But because of Soton's money issues they tried to loan him out with a view to signing for Hertha. He scored 2 goals in 16 games playing for Hertha which isn't bad considering it is at a good level... I maintain that he would be a good backup option for us on a free transfer...

I wouldn't be looking at old freebies unless they have a seriously impressive CV, otherwise we'd be looking at a Bruno Berner situation all over again. I'm all for checking out the likes of Rothen who've been fantastic at a very high level for a long time, but Skacel doesn't feel like premiership material at all.

I'm knackered from all this transfer talk , Nicko secret squirrel stuff, and the season hasn't ended yet. Why is the closed season more exciting the real one ? Actually even I know the answer to that one this year.

Really not worth considering. I live in Southampton and the general consensus is he is useless. What you say about him frequently playing out of position is true. But when he was given the chance in his regular LM role he was just as shocking. Watched him play a few times for their reserves at Marchwood and he didn't even shine then. He appears to have had a major sulk on since George Burley left after frittering away what little money the club had left.

It pains me to say it as my family are huge saints fans. But there are some easy pickings there. Lallana and Surman are great prospects. Also watched a young left back a few times called Hatch who looked pretty good for a 16/17 yr old. McGoldrick is also worth watching. His scoring record at youth level was amazing and he finished as their top scorer this year. I think that given a few years he could make PL grade.

That Lallana looks very decent. Southampton really do have a productive youth system. Unlike us, I wouldn't let our youth team coaches anywhere near some of the youngsters you've mentioned there.

Why haven't we been linked to Jason Koumas yet, normally by now we would have been.

Has anybody mentioned Appiah in the last week?

Probably because the Welsh contingent have left...

Spurs are lining up a bid for Wolfsburg's Bosnia striker Edin Dzeko. (Daily Mail)

Suprise, suprise - they are linked with more or less any decent player we get linked with.

Portsmouth's Sean Davis has turned down a new contract, with Wigan and Wolves set to move in on the midfielder. (Daily Mirror)

Could be interesting - may spark rovers into action?

We were supposed to be interested in him at the start of the season, but now his stock has really risen over the last few months. Wolfsburg look like they are going to win the league and he has scored close to 30 goals for them this season. I think he's scored 10 goals in his last 4 games and is the in-form striker in Europe at the moment. I doubt we could get him now. According to these links, we are interested in signing Amr Zaki and Stephane Mbai from Rennes. I would definitely be interested in signing Mbai, he's the type of all action midfielder that we need. I've seen him play a lot for Rennes and he is class.

Sean Davis is second only to Paul Ince for having consistently bad mouthed the Rovers in the past. Said some hateful things when he was at Fulham.

M'bai would cost too much, and again would have bigger fish to fry.

Philip - what did Davis say about us? I dont recall anything.

Posted

He was pain in the @rse the season we went up as runners up to Fulham. Cant remember exactly what he said but I seen to recall him scoring the winner for them against us at Ewood and dancing about like a total p***k in front of about 50 Fulham fans in the Darwen End. Came accross as your typical cocky, mouthy Southerner.

I wouldn't be to unhappy if we brought in Zaki on loan with a view... To replace Derbs, and brought in a big main striker to replace Santa Cruz...

Wishfull thinking though i think...

No ta. Zaki scored 8 goals in 10 games gave up. Possibly the worst attitude in the Prem too.

Zaki seems a bit like Roberts with better finishing but a far worse attitude. I don't really see the point in bringing him in, especially as those early 8 goals probably mean he still has a pretty high value.

I'm all for taking a risk on players who have had problems in the past if the potential reward is worth it, but I just don't see this being the case with Zaki.

Regarding the M'Bia link...could this possibly have come out by someone misreading the M'Bami story...?

Glad someone else has brought this up. It's why I wouldn't want him but I know there are always plenty of posters telling me that it's what players do in a Rovers shirt that counts. Try as you will though it's still hard to wipe nauseating things like that from your memory. If we buy him fair enough but it would be another one I'd support with my head but not my heart.

It did say at the bottom of that skysports article that he did NOT want to go to a big club at this stage of his career so if the price was good for us and we want him I see no reason why we shouldn't at least make an attempt and go for him. Good player, highly rated and would definitely help out our midfield. All comes down to price though...

I would be very surprised if Sean Davis ever played for Rovers. According to many Fulham fans he has a distinct dislike of the club.

As I pointed out several weeks ago, Sean Davis is an extremely unlikely Rover.

Posted

He was born in Clapham and has only ever played down south, what possible reason could he have for disliking Rovers? You can understand someone like Kevin Nolan disliking us, but why Davis?

Posted
Iv tried looking on the net for any quotes from Davis but cant find anything. Dont see him hating us like some believe.

I remember clearly his celebration in front of the Fulham fans. He really didn't like us.

Posted

Wasn't it because just before that game Souness had said Rovers were the best team in the division and he was rejoicing in ramming that back down his throat. I may be wrong but I think Fulham had a man sent off in that game.

He had a point - Fulham went up as champions.

Dont see why this hate of Rovers in the past from Nolan, Davis and the like is an issue ...With woman hate can often turn in to love......it often turns back to hate again later though...
