Presty On Tour Posted December 23, 2008 Author Posted December 23, 2008 I take Diouf as Sam can get the best out of him. As for Barton, no chance in hell I want him near Rovers ever! He's injured till March anyway, so you can cross him off the January shopping!

T4E Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Andy Todd did this too. Bellamy and Diouf are in a completely different ball park to Barton. I never want to see Barton in a Rovers shirt no matter how good a footballer he is. There is something wrong about someone in his position being given '2nd' chance after '2nd' chance. Let him stay at Barcodes. Diouf is a dirty player, a cheater and a diver but there's no way you could compare him to Barton. The same goes for Bellamy. I was mad at the time, but thats brilliant. Mad Andy at his best. On the comments below that vid it mentioned a set-two between Todd and Stan Collymore - anyone know any details?
tcj_jones Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 I miss Todd. Diouf isn't the league of Barton and Bellamy isn't in the league of Diouf. Bellamy is a bit of a nasty, unpleasant character and Diouf is a dirty, disgusting cheat but Barton is a total whack-job. In any cae, while I think that Diouf is a good player, I don't want him or his spit at our club. He is my most hated Premier League player of all time.
nicko Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 On the comments below that vid it mentioned a set-two between Todd and Stan Collymore - anyone know any details? Todd and Collymore went for it big-time in the last minute of a very dull Bolton v Villa game a few years ago. Collymore had been winding him up, with the final remark about him being a 'talentless c***' being too much for the bold Toddy to bear. Toddy then attempted to remove Collymore's not-inconsiderable head from his shoulders for the next 30 seconds. Hilarious.
tcj_jones Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Bucky, probably because Diouf's actions have actually had an impact on Rovers. Plus, while utterly dispicable, at least Barton will do what he does to your face and not spit at you when your back is turned. That's not to say I don't very much dislike both.

BuckyRover Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 That's fair enough. Although in my opinion, however horrible it would be, I would rather be spat on than have a cigar stubbed out in my eye or have my face pummelled with a fist whilst lying prostrate on the ground.
cn_barlow Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 When Sam was at Bolton i remember him saying Diouf was the nicest guy in the world off the pitch, but when he was on it it was like someone had flipped a switched. If thats true then its not on to talk about him in the same manner as Bellamy and Barton, who are very questionable individuals off the pitch aswell as players on it.
The Prof. Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Barton & Diouf are both very good football players, regardless of what happens off the field. Either would be an improvement our our team. Oh no - he's out (Hughsey I mean). Barton is a none show when the going is tough. Beating little boys up is his limit. I remember City fans winding me up about how tough he was the season before last when they hardly touched the ball in a 1-0 win. Face with a few real 'blokey' types he bottled it. Apparently was for sorting Nelsen out (would have been killed) Sick call boyo. Diouf - don't think he's better than anyone we have. Bellamy - ghastly but about as dangerous a forward as there is on his day - outshone all the Villa forwards by miles on Saturday. None coming here thank god but I'd take a fit Bellamy and cage him off the field!
The Prof. Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Sorry lads a full-back has to be strong both going forward and defensively, unfortunatly Bert is not too strong at defending. He is good at supporting the winger getting past him, and then getting caught out. However out of what we have he'd be my first choice for now but it is a position we have needed for a while now. Sadly it would mean Derb's out wide so Ooijer can stay there. Bert is an excellent defender - his real position is wing back.
philipl Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 I'd go with that prof re Bert. Thank goodness Barton is completely crocked so the Barton-supporters can whitter to their hearts content and decent folks can get on with their lives knowing there is no way that hateful individual is coming to our club in January.
dingles staying down 4ever Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Bert is an excellent defender - his real position is wing back. Agreed - but I don't think Sam's going to adopt a formation involving wing backs. Still best full back at the club IMO.
dingles staying down 4ever Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Looking at papertalk on SSN. It says the Mirror reporting "Blackburn chief Sam Allardyce is lining up a move to be reunited with former Bolton defender Tal Ben Haim, who has struggled to make an impact at Manchester City" and Daily Mail "Premier League quartet Tottenham, Blackburn, Wigan and Middlesbrough are all chasing Red Bull Salzburg striker Marc Janko"
tcj_jones Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Interesting that City have been heavily linked with both Roque and Bellamy. Just imagine is we'd have got a chance to see those two together at Rovers in their prime. That had the makings of the bets forward partnership in the league. Very frustrating how things work out sometimes. If only life were more like Football Manager!
tcj_jones Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 I have to admit, I'd be very tempted to sell Roque this January. Take Man City out of the equation and I doubt that he would command anything more than about £8 - 10m at 27 and after a stuttering second season in England. By the end of the season, Hughes could be out of a job and the City link will be gone. Sell in January and we could just about name our price. The money would help should we go down or would give Sam the money to strengthen other areas of the team. Roque is a fantastic player, but he has been pretty poor this season. Although he's been playing in a terrible side, his heart hasn't seemed in it and several times he's missed chances that he would have buried last season. I reckon we'd be better off with the money tbh.

If this happens, Sparky throws £54m of Brasilians in the bin and goes to two players who made their English reputation at Rovers.

It says the Mirror reporting "Blackburn chief Sam Allardyce is lining up a move to be reunited with former Bolton defender Tal Ben Haim, who has struggled to make an impact at Manchester City" Ben Haim struggles to make an impact anywhere because he's *&@! Seriously he's a carbon copy of Zurab. Adequate squad player but nothing more.
joey_big_nose Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Bert is an excellent defender - his real position is wing back. He is good at full back defending on the ground, excellent in getting forward and supporting the winger, but very bad defending in the air. This is fine if he is against a small winger but against a team that plays the ball high out wide like Stoke, Hull or Bolton he really really struggles. He gets tight to his man too so if someone cleverer than him takes him on he gets turned pretty easily (you could say that about Warnock too over the last few games, stoke aside, which is strange because usually he is so solid). I am in favour of bringing Emerton back to full back against footballing sides as it drastically improves our attacking and counterattacking options (how many goals did we score last year from Emerton galloping down the right touchline to cross or create space for the winger?) but we do need to be looking for a more competent right back defender in the long run.

Now I'm worried
FourLaneBlue Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Bucky, probably because Diouf's actions have actually had an impact on Rovers. My peronal opinion is that you have it wrong by saying Barton "does it to your face." Seeing as Barton apparently jumped a team mate in training from behind therby giving him no chance to fight back it suggest that you have your opinions on them slightly mixed. Barton´s actions have been far worse than Diouf´s whose cheating and spitting have been unpleasant but ultimately not on the same scale as Barton´s violent actions which have had the capacity to ruin lives. That horrible cigar in the eye incident alone is far worse than all Diouf has done put together. Barton´s actions are not just fighting between two blokes who want a do with each other...there is a cowardly, ambushing, bullying element in them which makes them far worse. Not that Spit the Diouf is a particularly nice individual but for anybody to compare his actions with those of Barton is ludicrous.
islander200 Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 If rsc is sold a player id love us to go for is St.Etiennes powerful striker bafetimbi gomis bolton wer interested not so long ago and i think he could be a real star in the premiership not too sure how much he would cost but even at 10mil i think he could be a bargain

Adequate squad player but nothing more. Agreed. He looked crap and thinks he "made it" big when signed for Chelsea. And i don't think his wages are cheap either. He was on roughly £40k/week at Chelsea (according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tal_Ben_Haim). Could be even higher at City. I guess he will have to take a pay cut to come over.

What if he does a Grella ?
philipl Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Very fair assessment of our transfers so far by Sky Unfortunately, Oliver Holt wrote the fan review under the Pseudonym Jamie Rice.
