Get rid of Rigters, Gallagher, Vogel, Brown - there are 4 straight away who we wouldnt even notice had gone and it would save us £70k a week/ £3.5m a year.

You then have RSC set to go on £65k a week - replace him with no more than a £50k a week player and there is another £15k a week saved.

You could then also consider the likes of Derbyshire, Tugay (Have the legs gone?), Reid.

Alternatively why not offer the ones that we might like to keep (inc Andrews / MGP ) new contracts with VASTLY reduced basic wages along the lines of Championship players BUT with stratospheric win bonus's? I doubt that before long many of them would find any clubs out there likely to offer better terms and it'd make em a little more hungry to produce the goods. Treat em mean and make em keen.

A lot of those players would leave, whereas IMO we'd at least have a chance of hanging onto Roberts.

Players can only leave if we agree to sell them. Obviously there would be reasons to let some go as we couldn't afford to pay their wages and Mr Santa cruz wants out regardless, but most teams that go down think they'll lose all their players and find they don't. A restructuring would be necessary but to just let all those players go would almost guarantee we would be down in League 2 2 seasons later. Contracts don't mean nothing - they mean we can choose who to sell when. You have to weigh up the pros and cons of any sale whether we are relegated or not.

Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce is keen to sign 23-year-old Real Mallorca full-back Jesus Gomez for £4m, but he will face competition from Tottenham and Real Madrid. (Daily Mirror)

If we could make the capture of Givet permanent for say £3m, would people be happy for us to sell Warnock for around £5m and then just carry on with Givet and Ollson as cover?

Even if we went down (which I don’t think we will) I wouldn’t keep Gallagher. He hasn’t even set the world alight at Plymouth, where to be honest he should be standing out if he is good enough.

Pay cuts are good for some of the existing players with performance related pay – although I cant see many actually agreeing to it.

Let say for arguments sake – Roque (£65k) and Derbyshire (£25k) were to be sold for £17.5m clear, who would be happy if we replaced them with Cisse for £7m (£45k) & Sturridge for £0.5m signing on fee (£35k). That would represent a £10m saving to improve other areas with + £10k a week saved on wages and I feel It would add a lot more to our team/ squad, aswell as give us pace in our attack and a youngster who should have a massive re-sale value in 3 years. That’s the sort of business we need to be doing!!!

Cant see him staying at City. He would be stupid if he did - he already has Robinho & Bellamy ahead of him - in the summer he will probably find 2 more also ahead of him.

I dont believe £65k! That has to be media talk. I think we should of him a good deal to try and pursuade him - maybe £1m in the bank as a signing fee then? That should help tempt him.

From what I've read, he stands out as their most technically gifted player. However, he is not making much of an impression since the goals dried up and has been in and out of the team (also due to injuries).

I think that we'll be lucky to get much of a transfer fee for him - unless he has a stunning remainder of the season.

If we stay up, I can't see that we would be successful in shifting much of the overpaid deadwood at all. Who would pay them what we are paying them, or even want them? I can see us having about 10 Matteo's on the books. If we did go down, I would hope these lush new contracts all have swingeing relegation clauses built in

I can't believe someone who's watched Rovers at all this season would even consider not giving Tugay an extended deal. Player/coach seems reasonable, as does 'pay as you play', but not keeping him registered for No Midfield Rovers is just insane - even at 39.

As for us going down, I would think about five to ten of the players below will stay if that happens:

1 Paul Robinson Goalkeeper

2 Andre Ooijer Defender

3 Stephen Warnock Defender

4 Christopher Samba Defender

5 Tugay Kerimoglu Midfielder

6 Ryan Nelsen Defender

7 Brett Emerton Midfielder

8 David Dunn Midfielder

9 Roque Santa Cruz Striker

10 Benedict McCarthy Striker

11 Vincenzo Grella Midfielder

12 Morten Gamst Pedersen Midfielder

13 Zurab Khizanishvili Defender

14 Johann Vogel Midfielder

15 Aaron Mokoena Defender

16 Steven Reid Midfielder

17 Keith Andrews Midfielder

18 El-Hadji Diouf Striker

19 Carlos Villanueva

(on loan from Audax ) Midfielder

21 Gael Givet

(on loan from Marseil ) Defender

24 Keith Treacy Midfielder

25 Alan Judge

(on loan to Plymth ) Midfielder

26 Julio Santa Cruz Striker

27 Matt Derbyshire

(on loan to Olympk ) Striker

29 Martin Olsson Defender

30 Jason Roberts Striker

Just a wild guess of course. But we could never pay wages to people like Benni, Emerton, Nelsen - and most of our players would strengthen teams in the Premiership one some level.

when on earth does reids contract end, that'll be the end of his career......and vogels contract, he's starting to make the greedy lazy unmotivated swine that was ostenstad look value.

Sorry Hughesy, that's the price his guys want.

Also Reid and Vogel are staying irrespective unless we buy out their contracts. And as the object is presumably to save money, that might not be the smartest of moves.

Both Sam and JW will be mighty relieved that JW prevailed in their chat about Bullard given the news from America today.

surely in reids case there must be an insurance clause or something, he'd be a mental case to think he's still got a career and any manager would be deranged to sign him more importantly, just need him to admit hes finished and get himself a payout. I,m sure ex-liverpool midfielder mike marsh was permanently injured called it a day and got a big payout, then played in non-league knowing if the team got promoted he'd have to leave as he could'nt play in the league again or he'd be paying a wad of money back me thinks that maybe mr reids future.

Reid has only been fit for more than half a season once in 7 years....still probably a better record than king, woodgate, and owen and now bullard.

Rovers have never really had much success with insurance payouts. We had a lengthy legal battle with insurers over Martin Dahlin and if rumours are correct failed to get payouts on Jansen and Agnew in the past.

when we signed Reid he was on his way back from a very lengthy injury at Millwall, to the extent that Millwall supporters i know, granted only two, could not believe we'd signed him.

Rovers will suffer if relegated because the club was trying to bring continuity to the club and build on what we had, which meant lengthy contracts. The players' legal team seem to have inserted get out clauses for their clients, it appears that Rovers' legal people have not.

Which chairman negoiated contracts with players on one wage in the premiership and another if relegated? In hind sight that may have been the way to go.

Rovers will struggle to off load if relegated so the financial damage of relegation could be very severe, which in turn will severely damage any plans of restructuring that Sam has.

I dont think we will have too much trouble offloading if we went down.

Vultures would be after at least: Samba, Nelsen, Warnock, Emerton, McCarthy, Cruz, Pedersen and probably Robinson.

Ooijer & Mokoena are going anyway. Those 10 players alone is about £18.5m worth of contracts.

Anyway we wont be going down... so its just about selling the deadwood and building a stronger, younger and fitter squad.

Doubtless paying their contracts up to get shot of em will take much of our revenue. Dunno if I'm right but it's quite possible that as long as somebody signs them up for next season that the players might even earn more from the club being relegated than if it stayed up. If that is the case then it's ludicrous.

Fair enough about the players who'd go if relegation but it is the dead wood we are left with and we'll have no cash to bring younger and fitter players in. And if we stay up the only cash we'll have is by selling some of the players listed above so we are in a similar situation.

Bloody good job we didn't sign Bullard. Had his op and out for 5-6 months.

The club are not even insured as the condition was a pre existing condition.

We should be thankful that we have a chairman in JW who can say no otherwise we would be crying right now, £5 million and £50K a week on an injury prone midfielder... dont we have three of those already?

So who wanted to sign that maniac Nolan?

Have to say that the players people wanted us to go for and we didn't look to be excellent misses by the club.

Nolan is just like Andrews but 10 times more expensive. Those calling for us to sign nolan are virtually the same who are calling Andrews shocking.

I'm pretty sure he can't sign with anyone if he's just been released now. It would be far to easy to circumvent the transfer window rules if it were possible.

Could be a great signing in the summer though if we stay up - get £20 million for Roque, replace him with a freebie and fix the midfield with the rest of the money.
