Hughesy Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 I think Joey Barton is a real possibility in the summer.

Billy Castell Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Just shush Hughsey!!!!!!! I don't want to think about it. It's my birthday soon.
Jackson Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Joey Barton?! This is getting better. What with Spit et al. We can change the half time theme tune to "Diiirrrttyy".
SoccerHQ Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Dzeko has been quality for Wolfsburg and Bosnia lately. Big Sam was watching him in January wasn't he so I wonder if he's still on the radar?
thenodrog Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 That would be a very bad move imo. Get him off the wage bill and get someone younger and better in. Well he still plays for Holland at CH and he'd still be OK if we intend to play him in that position. If we want him to play full back then he may as well be off. I must say his joy was obvious and unbridled when he scored the winner and made me wonder if he really wanted away.
John Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Well he still plays for Holland at CH and he'd still be OK if we intend to play him in that position. If we want him to play full back then he may as well be off. Agree. Whilst he has been inconsistent at times, I would keep him for the centre half role. He gets caught out when playing right back, and I get the impression he does not enjoy playing there. Mind you, with wages being a concern, it may be time to say thanks and good bye as I would imagine he would be on a decent amount (take into account he is back-up with Nelsen, Samba and probably Givet joining). Will be interesting to see what happens with Zurab in the summer, surely he must be craving first team football.
T4E Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Dzeko has been quality for Wolfsburg and Bosnia lately. Big Sam was watching him in January wasn't he so I wonder if he's still on the radar? Probably well off our radar by now.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 I'm pretty sure he was an Ince target so he's bobbins.
Backroom DE. Posted April 9, 2009 Backroom Posted April 9, 2009 We'll never get Dzeko, he's been earmarked by far bigger clubs.
Iceman Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 If we wanted younger players, then our academy should have provided that. For us its experience that is important, with one or 2 youngsters coming through. Our academy has been disappointing!
Hughesy Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Will be interesting to see what happens with Zurab in the summer, surely he must be craving first team football. Im suprised Zurab hasnt been closer to the 1st team since Sam came in - If Samba was to play upfront at Liverpool, it will be interesting to see if he gets a chance to play at Centra back or not.
BRFC1995 Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 next season, roque gone for about 10m in summer, moko gone, reids contract cancelled, ooijer gone, mccarthy gone for 2m, villenueva and simpson binned off, derbyshire sold 2m, buyer found probably highly discounted for grella, olssen binned off to any takers 1st 11 without reinforcements other than givet; ..............................Robbo........................... emerton......samba............nelsen.........givet diouf...........warnock.......dunn......pedersen ...............roberts.......????????? required 3xnone injury prone strikers, preferably quick and one over 6'2" left wing cover(pedersen has found favour with me again cause his throw ins are better than corners) 2x ball winning cm rb cover cd cover 8 players required over the summer imo, don't imagine the academy will avoid us paying a fee(a very small one obviously) for all of them
1864roverite Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Firstly he needs a clear out. brown, Zurab, Treacy, Gally, Derbyshire, Tugay, Mokoena, Carlos, Dunn, Andrews, RSC, Ooijer all need firing off. then rebuild around Samba. Its going to be a big big job
Blue blood Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I don't think you can replace quite so many players in one go, 1864, even if it is tempting! I'd keep Zurab, as I think he's a good solid defender. Reckon Benni should stay as well, as I don't think we'd get anyone near as good for the money we would recieve for him. Similarly, maybe would have to keep Andrews as a utility player and possibly Derbyshire as a squad striker, who I think still has a part to play at the club. Again for the money we'd get for either of them, I doubt we'd replace them with better. Simpson and Olsson could both also go, imo without harming the squad at all. An unfit grella should be sold too, although hopefully his injuries will clear up and we'll get a couple of good seasons out of him.
broadsword Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 An unfit grella should be sold too, although hopefully his injuries will clear up and we'll get a couple of good seasons out of him. Hahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Hahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
BRFC1995 Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 the multi-millionaire paul ince should do the decent thing and buy grella off us with his undeserved compo...........would be the karmic thing to do
Blue blood Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Hahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Hahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. I'm not too optimistic on this one it has to be said. But some players have managed to come back from a season or two of bad injuries and still have some good seasons. Kevin Gallacher springs to mind as one who broke his leg twice before having 2/3 of his most prolific seasons for us.
Backroom Tom Posted April 11, 2009 Backroom Posted April 11, 2009 For me get shut of: Ooijer Derbyshire Gallagher RSC Tugay Simpson Roque isn't going to bring much more than £10m now, Derbyshire would be £2m and the rest would be nothing. We need 2 strikers and a creative midfielder still I think, however I think some more funds need finding from somewhere, but that wont happen.

Hopefully Tugs will move straight into a coaching role. Want to keep Zurab but not sure how long he'll stick around as a backup. Want to keep Carlos but it would depend on a fee. Am tempted to say ditch Ollson but he's still young and we have no other young full backs. Unsure about Derbs on second thoughts, would depend on what sort of fee we could get. Over 1.5m then I'd say do it. Oh and finally I'd be tempted to add Reid to the list. The amount of wages we pay between him, Dunn and Grella for them to all be often injured is ridiculous. If we kept only two he'd be the odd man out for mine.

Backroom Tom Posted April 11, 2009 Backroom Posted April 11, 2009 Treacey should have been on the list however I've always rated Moko as a squad player but he will be leaving anyway. Carlos is an interesting one, he certainly has talent but it's obvious Sam doesn't rate him so he will also leave.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Unless I'm much mistaken, Tugay already has a coaching role at the club. He'd simply move into it full time. Wouldn't hurt to keep him registered though.
MarkBRFC71 Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Can we add mokoena and treacy to that list And Pedersen. He's done cock all worth remembering since Chelsea FA Cup Semi, and would get a bit of cash in to be a much more effective replacement.
John Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce is ready to sign Espanyol's Cameroon international keeper Carlos Kameni - and put the squeeze on Paul Robinson.
