John Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 And all this to be done with a transfer budget of £0 unless we sell a player who is qualified for a Disabled parking Badge or Vinjay's critical take over happens Exactly, plus, no one seems to be contemplating how big our transfer budget will be if we are in the Championship......
67splitscreen Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 If Boro' are to go down then I would beg BFS to have a look at some of their players namely Adam Johnson, David Wheater and Tuncay. Anyone know who Steven Appiah is having a trial with? He was with spuds training, read an article yesterday, his international manager telling him to get a club sorted out quickly, as he needs first team football. Would be good but the wages would have to drop dramatically, to see any hope of him coming to Ewood.
Amo Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Cant see us getting a right back - we have emerton who is more than capable. He's also recovering from a cruciate knee ligament injury. We need at least two players for each position, whilst shafting the dead-wood/ageing personnel.
Hughesy Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Yes and he should also of recovered soon. He is now back and wont be long off until he is back in full training/ along with Reid. They should hopefully both build up enough strength and fitness in time for next season - im sure if anyone can get these two clear of injuries then it will be sams backroom team. When we have limited funds, right back is far from the most important area to sign new players at the moment.
Bazzanotsogreat Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Out Should Go Moko Andrews Dunn or Reid Benni MGP Who will leave of their own accord Santa Cruz Ooijer Warnock Tugay (coach) What we need A RB A solid LB A pacy LW A box-box mid A creative CM A target man A pacy striker What will probably get is Kevin Davies & a load of freebies.
LeChuck Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 That would be Kevin Davies that is joint 5th top scorer this season? We'd be bloody lucky to have him at the moment.
BRFC1995 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 next season planning, who to keep; .................................robbo(be nice to get rid, but won't happen) emerton...............samba............nelsen/givet.....................givet/warnock diouf.....................------------........-------------.......------------ ...........................roberts........-------------------- definitely 4 first team slots to improve on, not even asking for a transfer fee for the likes of dunn, mccarthy, grella, and andrews.........if we did'nt shift that shower in the summer and kept them mooching off us until january, 6 months of thier wages probably comes to (120k p/week for 26 weeks) £3,000,000, god forbid theysaw their cereers out here, cut losses and bin off.
Hughesy Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Will be interesting to see what happens with MGP, as we could probably raise some money by selling him. Diiouf can play on the left so we could then potentially sign a right winger instead (the egyptian lad has been heavily linked) and swap diouf over? With Treacy & Judge as cover? (Not the best cover I know but young, cheap, talented - well maybe not treacy). Let RSC go to spurs instead of City and take Bent off their hands + £7m or so.

If Emerton's knee problem flares up again, then we'll be left without a recognised right-back (assuming Ooijer returns to Holland - as he should). I don't fancy relying on Andrews for the season. We could pick someone up on the cheap, free, or loan.

We could pick someone up on the cheap, free, or loan. Yes we need a right back if we can find one but I rather feel that a midfield might have to be priority along with at least one striker. A rightback on loan might be possible depending on how many people's wages we can save.
gumboots Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I never said midfield wasn't a priority. And I didn't say you didn't. Just that I definitely think it is and I think most fans agree. It was a priority at the start of the season as tugay was getting too old to be relied on to play every gams, bentley had gone, reid never looked like getting it back, nor did dunn, at least not to the extent where he could be our match winner. If you'd given any of us cash to spend on a couple of players of our choice in our price bracket, most of us would have gone for a couple of decentish midfielders.
Amo Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 The midfield certainly needs serious investment, but we still need to keep an eye on the rest of the team where applicable. For instance, a better goalkeeper could win us a good few points more than Robinson has this season. And if we want to complement the wide-men, we will need a decent right-back to cover/compete with Emerton.

And a striker who can put away one on ones and has a bit more pace than McCarthy wouldn't come amiss either. Or one who doesn't spend half his time falling over instead of just beating the man and moving the ball. Or one who isn't constantly whining to the press about how big, bad rovers are holding him prisoner at Ewood park when he'd far rather be living the high life in Manchester or wherever.

Mostly agree, but i'd give Pedersen one more season, kind of like an "improve or you're out" thing. there's more important positions to replace than LW. positions we need to replace i reckon are both centre midfield, right back (just incase Emerton doesn't recover that well) and both strikers. you reckon we'd have any chance of signing Matt Taylor from Bolton? because in my eyes, he's class

It would be nice to strengthen in other areas but the midfield has to come first, so if we have any budget (probably peanuts) in the summer thats where the real money needs to be spent. With a better midfield we should be able to create chances for our forwards and at the same time put less pressure on our defence, its basically why we are in the position we are in. If we survive this season and the midfield isn't sorted in the summer then we will be battling relegation again next season.
AJW Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 does anyone know where you can find a list of Bosman players? I've seen some interesting names in the Premiership, but what about abroad? not exactly whole of europe , but england italy and spain some interesting names , caution though some players are at clubs on loan , and the loan deal is about to expire e.g givet not that the contract with the parent clubs is over http://goal.com/en/news/11/transfer-zone/2...n-england-free-

A few names there i could well see at ewood. Sami Hyypia Danny Murphy - I was all for us trying for him when he left Liverpool. Proper footballer. Julian Gray Chris Baird Segundo Castillo - Sam might well want a look at him. I think he fits the Allardyce mould. Amaury Bischoff - I admit its ambitious but he came to Arsenal highly rated. Think he's had his share of injury problems though. Mark Viduka - Sincerely hope not. But it wouldn't suprise me. Nwankwo Kanu - As above. Lauren - Decent competition at right back. Dominic Matteo - Only kidding. Dwight Yorke - Sorry. I can't seem to stop now i've started. Emerson - Might be worth a check on his fitness. Hell of a player not so long ago.
Billy Castell Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Thanks AJW. I don't know that much about Spanish or Italian football, but given that Sam signed a few old duffers at Bolton for one last hurrah, perhaps Morientes, Inzaghi, Julio Cruz, Emerson etc. might get a phone call.
BuckyRover Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Inzaghi scored a hat trick for Milan the other day. Two assists by Beckham
AJW Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Inzaghi scored a hat trick for Milan the other day. Two assists by Beckham thats simone inzaghi , not to be confused with his brother filipo (who is at milan)

47er Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 There's always reasonable players looking to leave relegated clubs too. Let's hope we are not one! Boro have some good ones and I'll mention Huth again.
patrickvalery Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 On yer bike patrick ! Care to elaborate? Aside from Murphy and Hyypia i'm not suggesting we sign any of them. And i admit Bischoff was a tad optomistic. But the others are players i can imagine us taking a punt on. The likes of Kanu and Viduka are classic Allardyce players and will fit snuggly into our budget.
