John Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I hope I’m wrong but I have no confidence in the trust/board releasing the funds necessary to rebuild the squad. The Walker family lost £350million last year, so I would think they won't be putting any money into the club for the foreseeable future. Any money we have for transfers will come from player sales.

Amo Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Thumbs up to Sean Davis. He's a good little player with PL experience, and is making a claim for Portsmouth's player of the year. There were rumours about him leaving a couple of months back. Might be worth inquiring.

Guest benmaxwell Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Food for thought. Know it would never happen. But wouldn't it make allot of sense for the Walker trusties to put money into the club and players. Players don't regularly loose value. In fact most players we sign tend to go up in value. Better then giving it to the taxman John...
donis1410 Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I agree, I think that too much "carefulness" got us into this position this year we didn't gamble on some players we should have and in some places towards the end of windows signed players without thinking
Hughesy Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 there maybe 1 player keen to move north , english , very good paser of the ball (almost as good as tugay) , scores a few too , would cost under £2m , and a little bit younger and more mobile than tugay.........Danny Murphy........depending on what kind of playing style BFS finally decides on , Murphy could be a realistic target He would cost nothing as he is out of contract this summer.
Billy Castell Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I'm not sure Murphy is that good actually. And he's a bit old. What happened to Appiah? Injury problems caused too many issues over his fitness.
Hughesy Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Isnt he still training with Tottenham. If he was worth a risk then their is no doubt that Harry would of took it by now.
Billy Castell Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Those were my suspicions too Hughsey. I was just wondering where the hell he went. No doubt Sam will snout out similar freebies though
RevidgeBlue Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Nolan for Rovers ? Its not a bad shout and I am certain that he would flourish under Sams leadership. He has many positives, he can pass, run all day, defend and score goals. Sounds a bit like Keith Andrews. As regards your projected squad I disagree slightly with the midfield, I think Sam will do all he possibly can to get Dunny fit and playing whilst we don't know whether he rates Reid or not. (Even assuming he can get him fit.) I'd like to think we could get Dunn, Reid and Grella all fighting fit next season, and had that occurred this season Mr. Ince might still be here! Up front I think Roque will be sold unless the offers are risible, I don't get the impression (sadly) that Derbs and Gally feature in Sam's long term plans and I'm not certain Benni's idea of getting himself match fit/ putting in a shift coincide with Sam's. So we might have to do some major surgery in midfield/attack depending on the long term injury situation.
dingles staying down 4ever Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Isnt he still training with Tottenham. If he was worth a risk then their is no doubt that Harry would of took it by now. I thought he spent the whole of January training with them but would not shift from £65,000/week wages and spurs would not offer him that. In the end he cleared off to a Russian team. I could be wrong though.

This is taken from Wiki: In February Appiah underwent a trial at FC Rubin Kazan, but the Russian champions decided against signing the player because of the same fitness concerns.
67splitscreen Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Stephen Appiah. As of 20 hrs ago. Stephen is currently in Brescia training with them as he seeks to sort out his future. With the Mali and Sudan games coming up he wants to be in tip top shape so that if he is called up he will be in a position to deliver as usual. Link
Bobby G Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 There has to be a reason why no club is signing a free international player of the highest quality...
Guest benmaxwell Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Interesting article in the Mirror this morning: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/more-sport/2...15875-21317182/ Also Blackburn have invited Austrian keeper Lukas Konigshofer for a trial. (The Sun)
Hughesy Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Dont get the clause - if it is a 'review clause if we go down' - whats the problem, we aint going down so nothing to walk away from. Would be interesting to see what funding he is to be given prior to selling Roque.
67splitscreen Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Did Sam not say a few weeks back that he would be staying even if we where relegated, as long as the club so wished. Strange one, perhaps Nicko will expand on it later.
Hughesy Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 He sure did. Confirmed it 100% in that Q&A session.
thenodrog Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Interesting article in the Mirror this morning: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/more-sport/2...15875-21317182/ Not a lot there that we didn't already know. He sure did. Confirmed it 100% in that Q&A session. JW didn't though cos he wasn't there. BUt I'd imagine that if we go down the job is Sams to have... but at a reduced salary.
gillibrand Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Just give Big Sam the backing he deserves, if he saves us after the previous fool tried to ruin us he deserves the keys to the town!

Strange one, perhaps Nicko will expand on it later. I will. I know the manager is a bit grumpy that the club has not 'sorted him out' yet with regards to the future... I did the story about the 'review clause' in the People about seven or eight weeks ago and the process of sitting down and looking at next season's staffing and funding has not started. Obviously the manager wants to know what he is on and what backroomstaff he can bring in before even getting round to moving players in or out. The Wigan man may bring it forward, but I think this whole issue could have many twists and turns to come.

I might be missing something here but it doesn't make any sense...
EwoodGlory Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 What do you mean by the Wigan man? I might be missing something here but it doesn't make any sense... Maybe it's a hint Whelan is getting shot of Wigan and will finally get us
spencey7 Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I will. I know the manager is a bit grumpy that the club has not 'sorted him out' yet with regards to the future... Let me get this straight - We might not have Allardyce as manager next season? YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! N.B. Fire away with your "you-must-hate-the-club" responses if you must, I know I don't - I love Blackburn Rovers, but will never, ever be at ease with the "style" of football we've adopted.
