RibbleValleyRover Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 If he was signed many years ago then surely sending him to Cercle Brugges would have been better...I don't think it takes long to get a Belgian passport, hence why quite a few English clubs have links with Belgian teams. According to his wiki entry the year before he played for the German team SC Paderborn 07. So this will be his second year playing for a German club. I don't know how long it takes to get a German passport, though i've noticed a lot of American youngsters end up going to Germany.

LeChuck Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 8 years I think, that's what my quick Google seems to say anyway. I had a feeling it was longer than the 5 years it takes here so that seems right. I think it's 3 possibly 4 in Belgium.
artemorethanlabore Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 According to a couple of articles in kicker, Hoilett went to Blackburn for three days in march in order for Allerdyce to have a look. He's definatley highly rated, but it seems, as per an article from today, that no decision has been made by Blackburn on him staying another year at st pauli or not. No alternative mentioned in the article, but I guess unleaded already described the scenario.
Hughesy Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Yeah he's been on our books for ages now. Get Jack Straw on the case - problem solved.
Bennisfromheaven Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I heard he has yet to decide on what coutry to represent as he was left out at u16 level by Canada which his father was not happy about & is considering playing for Jamaica in the future!! got it from a reggaeboyz forum, no idea why i was on that site though!!
Backroom Tom Posted April 30, 2009 Backroom Posted April 30, 2009 Look like a good little player, great turn of pace, for this reason I wont get excited about this as these type of things never seem to work out for rovers
rog of the rovers Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Hoillet will be well known to the Football Manager crew. Surely he must qualify for a work permit, especially since that Dong Fangzhou who plays for United spent 18 months in Belgium and then became part of the United squad.

Ah, but thats different, Dong qualified for a Work Permit thanks the the "Quinton Fortune ruling" - a little known piece of legislation similar to the Bosman ruling, only difference being that this one only applies to Manchester United.
waggy Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Yeah he's been on our books for ages now. Get Jack Straw on the case - problem solved. you've to be a resident of bastwell before straw will help you
Iceman Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 5 years and still cant get a work permit. Bet you if it was Man United, he would have had one by now. Is he any good, because surely the club would have tried a little harder to get a work permit, or released him from our books.
gumboots Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 The Germans are very strict about passports so if he's been in Germany it's no wonder he hasn't got one. My elder daughter can apply for one next year having lived there for 8 years and is entitled to dual nationality.
RoverRich Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 As someone mentioned previously, I don't understand why he wasn't sent to Belgium seeing as it is easier to get a work permit after playing there for a few years. Instead we send this talented youngster to Germany where it takes 8 years before he will be able to come to us. If he is so good and promising then why was he sent to Germany and not to Belgium especially with our link with Cercle Brugge? I am just wondering, there may be a reason behind it so if anyone has any ideas or suggestions then fire away.

Perhaps the standard of playing is much higher in Germany, making it worthwhile to send him out for a couple more years but to come back a more complete player? I'm just guessing
Hughesy Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 If Hamburg are interested then id suggest its worked = much stronger league and teams. Next step is clearance for us.
Amo Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 We're going to need about 6-7 additions in the summer. Goalkeeper, right-back, defensive midfielder, attacking midfielder, left winger, and a striker. * This is assuming we've already signed Givet. GK - Robinson, Brown, and Fielding could be sold, and Sam can bring in a new No.1 backed up by Bunn & perhaps this new kid. RB - Ooijer should return to Holland, Emerton can play there but will also be an option for centre-midfield. DM - Grella will need to prove his fitness, but should normal service resume we'll need options... and Mokoena won't be one of them. AM - Needed investment for some time, especially when Dunn & Reid are only main options. LM - Pedersen has lacked competition for too long and become complacent. ST - Replacement for Cruz, supported by Roberts, Derbyshire, and McCarthy (if he can prove himself, otherwise make that two STs).
Stuart Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 If Hamburg are interested then id suggest its worked = much stronger league and teams. Next step is clearance for us. Looking at it from a purely business perspective, despite him never pulling on a shirt for Rovers we could charge a decent transfer fee to any club, such as Hamburg, who came in? Also, in the current days of Europeanism and freedom of trade/labour, why is it that he can legally ply his trade in Germany but not in the UK?

I don't think we'd be in a very strong bargaining position if clubs knew he legally couldn't play for us. I'm pretty sure he'd leave on a free if he didn't get a work permit.
jny Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Any body else fancy Gutierrez from newcastle. He could be just the sort of player we need he has flair, pace and a good final ball and can also do the phsical stuff a lot better than Carlos. Another possible is Andy Carroll looks like he causes the opposition's defences problems and has a very good header like Roque, also if he came to us he would probs be cheap. We could do a lot worse. Is this David Hoilett guy a real prospect?
Backroom DE. Posted April 30, 2009 Backroom Posted April 30, 2009 I think Jonas would shine at some clubs, but knowing the type of football we're likely to see next season, I'm not sure we'd be one of them.
Hughesy Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 With 2 of the oldest 5 outfield players in our squad (Tugay & Ooijer) - it looks like our average age will be dropping quite abit in the summer with both leaving.

Is this David Hoilett guy a real prospect? NO NO NO NO NO NO NO We do not want those two players at Rovers! Proven to be not up to premiership standard and I hope next season we can aim for a top 10 finish, which will mean we will require a higher calibre of player than them two
gumboots Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 NO NO NO NO NO NO NO We do not want those two players at Rovers! Proven to be not up to premiership standard and I hope next season we can aim for a top 10 finish, which will mean we will require a higher calibre of player than them two To be fair to Gutierrez in particular, he has been playing in a rubbish team and we all know what that can do to a player's confidence, especially when that player needs help adjusting to a new league and style and pace of play. The Newcastle fans seem to agree he has been one of their better players in a poor season and he could possibly be the kind of player we need here. However, I don't think they'll be giving their players away even if they go down and they might ask too high a price in relation to what he's actaully worth.
rovgers Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Carroll is poor - no thanks!! I agree, everytime I've seen him he's been poor. He reminds me of Derbyshire in some ways, a local lad playing for the team he supports and scoring a few important goals after coming on from the bench. Like Derbyshire I think that the 'local lad' tag clouds peoples opinion of him.
