I heard he has yet to decide on what coutry to represent as he was left out at u16 level by Canada which his father was not happy about & is considering playing for Jamaica in the future!! got it from a reggaeboyz forum, no idea why i was on that site though!!

Yeah, his younger brother plays in the Canadian youth teams: Jaineil Hoilett - who I believe is also Rovers property...and also on loan to St. Pauli. Strange, hey? I'm sure we've discussed them before on this board. Others must know the situation surrounding them, but David is the one who is the most ready for Rovers...or Hamburg.

Here is some Canadian blogger complaining about him being a potential turncoat:

As someone mentioned previously, I don't understand why he wasn't sent to Belgium seeing as it is easier to get a work permit after playing there for a few years. Instead we send this talented youngster to Germany where it takes 8 years before he will be able to come to us. If he is so good and promising then why was he sent to Germany and not to Belgium especially with our link with Cercle Brugge?

I am just wondering, there may be a reason behind it so if anyone has any ideas or suggestions then fire away.

Perhaps we're missing the point here slightly - bear in mind that there is more than one way to skin a cat. He doesn't necessarily have to get an EU passport - if he became a regular international he'd get a work permit without too much problem. I'm guessing the powers that be considered that to be more likely if he played in Germany rather than Belgium.

I suppose the problem is that Rovers wouldn't be able to say that he would be in the first team and so wouldn't get a visa. There is no way he would get in on international caps, so the EU passport is a likely route. Shame we didn't send him to belgium as he would have his passport now.

Time for Jack Straw, Honorary VP of Blackburn Rovers, to work the oracle with the relevant departments re Hoilett. Eerything I have read about this lad over the past three years has been extremely encouragng.

I'd be very surprised if they thought they could get him to be a regular international by the time he was 18, even if it is 'only' with the Canadian team.

How old is he now then? What age did we send him to Germany?

I'm not sure he's been there but he's only 18 now. If Wikipedia can be relied on then this will be the second season he's spent in Germany...which kind of ruins the idea of sending him to Belgium if there is some form of deadline to get him a work permit this summer.

Maybe the quality of league a player has played in can be used in their favour on appeal? I don't have a clue what sort of criteria they have for judging cases that fail the standard international appearances rule.

below is what will probably be the basis of our team at the start of next season if we only bought givet and the age they'll be before the year is out, allowing for tugay(39),moko(29),ooijer(35),santa(28),dunn(30),gallacher(25), derbyshire(23) going.

.........................................robbo(30)..................................................

emo(30)...................nelsen(31)................samba(25)......................givet(28)

diouff(28)..................grella(30)...............warnock(28).....................pedersen(28)

..............................roberts(31)..............benni(32)....................................

subs zurab(28), reid (28), andrews (29), treacy (21), judge (21), doran (18), bunn (25), ollson (21)

nice experienced defence, midfield that should be at the height of its powers and a strike force that needs replacing.

probably no where near the oldest squad around but it would be nice to have a few players you could call prospects................only really samba you could see getting better out of that lot. No need to get carried away bringing youth in yet, definitely more quality required and pace though.

If the idiots cannot run the country properly then just how do you think JS could pull any strings with other departments ?

I believe Dingle baiter went over to watch him in March.

He has been following his career with Rovers since he joined us.

I remember a thread last summer where he stated he was one for the future if he continued to develop.

Perhaps he may now care to comment on him, as other clubs seem to have noticed him now.

Crikey, 6 players 30 or over, 4 of 28 and one "youngster" at 25.

I hadn't realised the players quoted were actually that old.

We could urgently do with the youthful exuberance of one or two younger players, and certainly one or two Samba's sort of age into the mix imo.

Carroll is poor - no thanks!!

Only seen him once and he was a bloody handfull in the air for both Nelsen and Samba! Sam's type of back-to-goal striker in fact. BUT I'd need to see what he is like with the ball at his feet a bit more before I could judge. If he's cheap enough and NUFC haven't elevated his wage demands he'd be OK as 1 of 4 imo.

Guest benmaxwell

If we sold Warnock for £5 million. I would be livid...

Why exchange one good footballer for another good footballer. What difference is it going to make??
