Fylde Coast Fan Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Anyone think Viduka might be worth a go? Sam's kind of target man, and should cost peanuts/nothing if Newcastle are relegated. The fact that he's about 60 years old and a good 17 stone puts me off. We can do better.

Amo Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Yeah, but if Sam can put him through his paces in pre-season, he might be a cost-effective replacement for Santa Cruz, with the bulk of the money invested into midfield.
Fylde Coast Fan Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 The other question is, would anyone take any of the players from the relegated clubs? Assuming it's the current bottom 3... I can see Sam picking up Habib Beye on the cheap if we can. He looks alright, Sam bought him for Newcastle, we need a right back. I'd even fancy Nolan, but no one else from there really. Coloccini will be out of our price range and probably leave England behind. Bassong and Martins will get more attractive offers than Blackburn. Boro... maybe Didier Digard or Gary O'Neil, I suppose. Alves is another who'll almost certainly be out of the country come the second of July, Tuncay will be fancied by a few clubs with larger wage budgets and sunnier climates. Can't think of a West Brom player I'd have. Scott Carson as England's number one seems like decades ago.
Backroom DE. Posted May 3, 2009 Backroom Posted May 3, 2009 Viduka's not where we should be looking... I think we can do better than an unfit player on the wrong side of 30.
Hughesy Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Ooijer, Mokeona both out of contract. Simpson returning to United Rigters, Gally both probably allowed to leave. Bunn to Leicester RSC to City/ Liverpool/ Arsenal or Spurs Brown to Preston - Swapped with their keeper Personally Id try and get a deal with Spurs for RSC. RSC for Bent & Huddlestone will do for me.
BB9 Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Huddlestone's been linked with Bayern, he ain't gonna come to a club like Rovers
Dunnfc Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Javier Flano - Osasuna's right back, had a lot of talk about him two years ago, has plenty of spanish under21 caps from a couple of years ago and reminds me of a luke young. He's also on a free this summer. He should be on our list without a question. Geremi - Not everyone's cup of tea but a utility player who shone at Boro and Chelsea, ok not at Newcastle but could you? RB/RM/CM in one, he's got to be available on a free or for next to nothing. Mohammed Tchite - Plays for Racing Santander in Spain and if you thought Bellamy was quick watch this guy. He's not as prolific as he should be however him and a big man upfront could be intresting and he's got that one thing Rovers havent got PACE. Estimated cost 4-6 million. Danijel Pranjic - The croat at herenveen and can play either lb/lm with ease if youve watched him you'll no doubt think he's top quality. Estimated cost 3mill. Mido - I guarentee 99% of you hate this guy, but he's a bundle of talent waiting for BFS to bring out. Estimated cost 2.5 mill. Fode Mansare, Albin Ebondo, - These two impress me every time I watch Toulouse. Hoping Eddie will know some more about these two.
Guest benmaxwell Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 You may all laugh at me for who i think shines out of the teams that are probably going to get relegated but... Chris Brunt at West Brom. He is QUALITY...

Brfcrule1 Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Some good suggestions but have to say Viduka far too old we should be going for younger strikers with pace. Definitely not Geremi, constantly injured, as for Mido we would have another overweight striker on the books we already have Benni. One name who was linked with us I hope is given a wide berth is the Real Betis Midfielder/striker Achile Emana. I hope we steer well clear this guy makes Jase Roberts look good! This guy does not even know where the goal is was watching the At. Madrid v Real Betis game in one chance beat the offside trap was clear ran slower than a worm on prozac and the defender tackled him. Does not even know where the goal is! Passing wise he is ok,quite powerful in the air, wins virtually every header but for a striker misses glaring opportunities. When they had a free kick on the edge of the box instead of crossing it to a team mate blasted it way over the bar and missed an open goal. If Sam reads these boards should not even ask about Emana. However in that game At. Madrid have 2 players who could do a job for us, not sure how much they would cost. One was originally with us in Sinama Pongolle. Got pace to burn and would be a good addition, would work well with Benni. I feel also another player who could do a good job is the former Man Utd player Forlan altho I suspect he would be out of our price range. Also a player who could do well for us Sam knows if the barcodes are relegated is Nolan in an area we need but would have to say on tonight's performance Emana would be a poor buy and would cry if we got him!

I'm not one of the grammar police (people can be very picky about what are more often than not typos) but as stated above that's unreadable.

I agree completly on Viduka and Gerami. However, totally disagree on Emena. Hes not a striker so to expect him to play like one is way off the mark. Hes a box to box middie, tackles well, scores enough(way more than any of our midfield!). Pongolle would be a great player for us, but we missed the boat on that one when we let him leave before, way to expensive to buy as would be Forlan. Im undecided on Nolan. I think he wouid do well for us but, as has been said before, he hates Rovers.
Guest benmaxwell Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 How about Steven Davis. Being linked with a move away from Rangers for £2million. Could do the role left behind by Tugay (would be ironic if we purchased Tugay's replacement from Rangers)...
Amo Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I think Pedro Mendes would be the ideal replacement for Toogs.
Hughesy Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I think Pedro Mendes would be the ideal replacement for Toogs. I dont, he is too old to be the replacement. We need to buy younger players.
Hughesy Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I know, but thats Sam & his teams job. Hopefully they can find us 1 or 2 gems.
Amo Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 You do know Tugay was actually older than Mendes' current age when he joined, right?
Hughesy Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I know that but we really need to be signing players who can progress and also become assets which we can cash in if necessary.
Amo Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 That's all well and good, but while we're looking for the next Tugay we could be signing an experienced replacement.
Eddie Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 The way forward is signing young players. Stop-gaps will do nothing for the club.
Amo Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 The way forward is signing young players. Stop-gaps will do nothing for the club. So Tugay was a wasted venture back in 2001?
