Why we need a replacement for Tugay? He isn´t first eleven player. It´s sad if there´s no money to keep Warnock if Givet is bought. Tough choise but Givet seems to be top quality. Sam is searching experienced names by little money or free. Steve Finnan type. One potential Sami Hyypia went Leverkusen. What does Ivan Campo do these days?? BTW is Sturridge still a free agent? He is an idiot if stays at Eastlands. A richer one than at Ewood though.

Personally speaking, I'd think Viduka and Barton are the last players we need. The former is old, slow, over rated, has high wages whilst the latter is equally injury prone, violent, and cannot be relied upon at all. Both will be a total waste of wages.

You'd have thought Givet was going to be a replacement for Ooijer who was leaving and not Warnock. I'd have thought Warnocks replacement would have been somebody else.

Well that's just a list of names.

What we want is names of young players who can come in and play in our team. So, which one will replace Rocky, Tugay etc, etc? Which one is a capable Prem right winger? Which ones will come to Ewood? How much will they cost? How much would an alternative experienced player for that position cost?

I'm sorry. Isn't that what you asked for??

I think they are all good young players who could do a job at Ewood. Which one replaces Rocky? None of them, i didn't mention a striker...?

Who would replace Tugay? Either Davis, Gary O'Neil and Aron Gunnarsson, they could all do a job through the center and be a mile better in quality and future potential then we have currently down the center of the park. Im of the opinion that it is laughable that Audax think they could get any more then £1million for Carlos Villanueva with some of the talent in our own country who could play the same role for better and more value for money. I still personally think they are laughing after the insane deal they probably got for Carlos Vela from Arsenal...

Striker wise, 3 names off the top of my head... Darío Cvitanich (24 - Ajax), Paweł Wojciechowski (19) and Arnór Smárason (20) are all brilliant prospects...

Oh and they are examples of course!

Anyone think that skilful players may shirk interest from Rovers in favour of more reputable, footballing sides?

Let's be objective. If you were a decent footballer and Allardyce's Bolton and Hughes' Rovers were after you and you had no connection with either, who would you have chosen? Allardyce's reputation precedes him and we may find ourselves getting turned down by the more established names - like Benayoun astonished Allardyce by pulling out of a dead-cert deal to join Bolton to sign for Whammers. (Money may have played a part too).

Ivan Campo plays for Ipswich in the Championship. I've seen him play a few times for them, and although he's very intelligent on the pitch, the pace of the Premiership would be too much for him at his age. He's very slow, and if a striker manages to get past him he's never going to catch up with them.

I'd like to believe todays footballers felt like this. But its probably just to do with money. It will be interesting to see how the poor performance of the pound affects the big moves this year. Not that they will be anything to do with us!

Totally agree. Campo, by the way, is playing in the Championship. Ipswich I think.

Sorry just noticed above post!

I did [mistakenly] ask for a list, yes. You are totally missing the point though. No-one said there are no good youngsters out there. The discussion was about Eddie's opinion that rovers should pretty much change their transfer strategy and start buying younger players with potential, rather than older ones.

Now we have bought numerous young players for as long as I can remember, so I'm not sure exactly what he means. I don't think he knows either :) .

I'm with PatrickValery on this one.

Blackburn should buy Christian Bolanõs of Ik Start in Norway. This guy has to be the greatest talent ever seen in Norway, and he has only played 7 matches for his new team Ik Start. Every week I have to see the huge CHRISTIAN BOLANÕS headlines,,he is massive ! Would solve all blackburns creative problems easily. Pace, creativity, a massive shot, stamina, work rate, great off the ball, cannot state his quality enough !

It is even almost pointless,,I promise you will see more of this player in some big league within 1 year, he is simply amazing! If gamst were good when he left the norwegian league and during his greatest form in PL, this player compares to be super extra fantastic!

He would be expensive in relative terms...big money for start, but not too much for Blackburn if they are fast. Price is a wild guess, but will never ever top 2.5 million - 3 million pounds..even that is a strech..Ik Start is in desperate need of money.

If someone has connections within Blackburn, or even has Sam Allardyce's mobile number, I beg you ! GIVE HIM A HEADS UP on CHRISTIAN BOLANÕS. You heard him from me first.

I hate being realistic but on this topic we have no other choice. In today's game you are as good as your wages bill, end of story. It would be interesting to see each clubs wage bill ranked in order and then look at their average league position over the last few seasons, bet it's fairly well in line. If we spend on wages then we cannot spend on transfers. So for me the only policy should be signing top class OLDER players on short term deals (Toogs was 30 I think when we picked him up? and he turned out OK) and then hunt around for the one broken child genius that may be out there eg Bentley. In the background do SOMETHING with that academy, what's it produced, I can think of Duffer and that's it really. Its been in existence ever since there's been a Premiership, longer than most others, how can we consistently not find or develop any young talent. The best part of a whole generation of players (in football terms) have been through there and we have produced nowt worth shaking a stick at. Needs to change. Last comment would be on the likes of Viduka, Barton etc.. We have a reputation as being a 'proper' club, with real people behind the scenes, caring talented people. We are good at fixing players who've gone off the rails. We are genuine friendly no-edge northerners who really are friendly when we seem to be friendly, unlike many other smiling crocodiles out there. Buying sorry excuses for humanity like Barton and injecting him into a club like ours is tantamount to 17th century sailors introducing the delights of syphilis to the Polynesian islanders. Lose who/what we are and we become just any another club. Stay as we are (in that respect) and we have a chance to continue to attract the talent that needs nurturing. We should stay away from the likes of Barton even if they are cheap and have talent. Some things are more important. So bottom line is to keep doing what we have always done, buy high wage class older guys, sniff around for a child genius, develop the academy and stay clear dodgy sailors!

For 5 million rands(500 000 pounds) we could easily get a better player than Steven Pienaar. Teko Modise is a creative midfielder, can take free kicks and wont have any problems getting a work permit. He is a regular in the South African team, and will provide some much needed pace. Should try and get him over for a trial at least.

I was just reflecting that Sam's last venture in the transfer market resulted in some seriously poor players arriving at NUFC for some seriously large transfer fees plus the Joey Barton misjudement.

Hope Sam can rewind the clock on his skills at least three years or this could be an awful summer.

I dunno about that SA and BRFC might turn out to be Bartons salvation. Sam to JB could be what Clough was to so many of footballs 'bad boys' 30 years ago. I do think Bartons got a real 'complex' mind, made much worse by the pressures of being a Prem League footballer but if a few analysts reckon that it can be dealt with and he comes cheap then he'd be ok.

BUT

Do we never learn from our pomposity? I rem not long ago various people were offering to chuck their ST's onto the pitch if we signed Bellamy.... Sav..... EHD! Sorry ladies but we are in no position to allow false pride to interfere with our football.

next season would be an enduring season again should we stay up. too many departments needed to be attend to with too little money available. Also for the new guys bought in, they would need sometime to gel together as a team.

that being said, i am hoping qualities and not quantity bought in. we need pace and creativity! we need to start taking gambles.

1) center midfield ( A huge hole! ) - a reasonably creative guy

2) Right winger - pace to burn

3) Right Back - pace to burn

4) strikers X 2 - 1 pacey and 1 strong and have good positioning

i hope rovers will look out of the premiership.

There are degrees of nastiness and stupidity. IMO Barton is top of the league and we should never go near him. He will never change, he's quite bonkers.

Edin Dzeko would have been a great buy when we were linked with him. However now that he is banging the goals in for Wolfsburg (he had a hattrick at the weekend to bring his tally to 19), bigger and better teams want him. I too hope that Sam looks outside the Premiership for players, that we can get at a more reasonable price.

LOL! I love having him on ignore. Thanks to all those who PM'd me telling me how to put him on ignore. My mail box was overloaded with likeminded real Rovers fans who have done the same!
