Brown is being replaced by the Preston Both End Keeper - so his wage wont be a saving.

Also Gally is on £20k, RSC 65K, vogel was more than 20k too.

Add to that list probably Bunn, Simpson, Rigters, Tugay aswell. Easily saving around £250k per week in wages to give us room to work with.

i'd hazard a guess that the board would prefer the current wage budget go down rather than increase, so out of all this 250k a week i'd be amazed if 250k or more would be allowed to be put back on wages...............for all the named players going the majority will need replacing just to maintain a small squad

a big name striker 50-60k per week.......2 better than average central midfielders 25-35k each............spare striker/spare cd/spare utility player 20-25k each

that'd be 200k used up easy leaving us with the smallest squad in the league which makes it less likely that anyone who can be described as injury prone will even be considered as a signing

we really need to still get 20m for santa, get any money for dunn, better cheaper option than benni if he ain't gonna be first choice which i can't see under sam.

interesting summer ahead

Anyone think that skilful players may shirk interest from Rovers in favour of more reputable, footballing sides?

Let's be objective. If you were a decent footballer and Allardyce's Bolton and Hughes' Rovers were after you and you had no connection with either, who would you have chosen? Allardyce's reputation precedes him and we may find ourselves getting turned down by the more established names - like Benayoun astonished Allardyce by pulling out of a dead-cert deal to join Bolton to sign for Whammers. (Money may have played a part too).

Out of Hierro, Campo, Diouf, Anelka, Youri D and Jay Jay which one of those quality footballers like to play hoof ball football? Sam has built a reputation on signing top class foreign talent. Do you know how we signed Givet? Anelka had a word in his ear about how working for Big Sam would be good for him, this nonsense about a lack of skilful players is frankly absurd.

There is no chance of Santa Cruz going for £20million - the board should have taken the money at Christmas. He will either have to wind his neck in and play for the club for another season - try to reignite interest from other clubs or (more likely) the club will back down and he'll go for £7-8 million if we're lucky.

..................... Viduka would cost peanuts, and the real money can be invested elsewhere. On his day, there's no one better at holding up the ball and making space for others.

I can't argue with any of that but unfortunately his day was at least 5 years ago.

Maniche is such an obvious Sam Allardyce signing that it's not even funny.

Agreed - Oklahoma has been keeping the messageboard masses up to date on Maniche's every move for the last few years, but on this occasion there may well be something come of it.

Is he still decent? Why have they released him?

Mutual, was out of contract in the summer any way.

Maniche

From Wiki. “We informed Maniche three or four weeks ago that we wanted to renew his contract” said Atlético’s general manager Miguel Ángel Gil Marín. “We really wanted him to accept the conditions and sign the contract. It is a shame for us.”

Bookies on Barfly.

PS: Paddy Power have attempted to quantify what we think is "a snowball's chance in hell" in betting terms on Joey playing for Newcastle again.

He's 8/15 not to play a league game for us next season and 11/8 to do so. Paddy will also give you 4/1 on Sam Allardyce doing a prodigal son act and making Barton a Blackburn player.

Some of us are in lala land here!

Where would the money for both Emana and Crouch come from and why would either of these players want to come to us

Emana played down a move only last week and Crouch (although I hate to say it may be already playing for a better team)

Another point Sam do not sign Barton he will give so many fouls and penaltys away, will cost a transfer and if not will certainly clog up the wage bill and we can do better elsewhere (abroad).

Also if I do not think that Barton will not become a fan favourite like diouf (for a start he's worse than Diouf and thats saying something) and will most likely become a hate figure much like he has become at Newcastle.

My advice would be sell Roque (Although I really don't want us too) and spend the money bringing cheap talent from struggling teams in this league, lower leagues and abroad.

Gunnarsson is a good shout.

Why would we sell him for that much? His clause in his contract is £18 million i believe so unless a team makes a offer of £18 million, or a good enough offer for us to accept. We wont accept, it's as simple as that...

I don't know why people keep forgetting this fact, but here goes... We don't have to sell if we don't want to, unless £18 million is bid!

Also, i'm willing to bet solid money that if he got his dream move elsewhere, his recovery time we mysteriously improve quickly... Their is no doubting that if he wanted to play for us, he would be at the moment. I don't believe this recovery time rubbish!

£15m is more realistic. As to the statement of we dont have to sell. We DO if we want to improve other areas of our team.

I meant we don't have to sell in the context of being held to ransom. Ie, pathetic bids of £8m-£10m...

However, we have to be realistic in the sense that is Roque actually worth that much. Looking at it from a Man City's point of view, or any other club, would they want to pay over £10million for a striker who has had one good season in the PL?

I'd be more than happy with £12million for Roque, a healthy profit and good amount to buy a replacement, as well as spending some of that money in other areas of the team i.e central midfield.

Sparkey knew about his injury history at Bayern, knew about it when he bit last summer, and knows about it now. I don't believe Man City will give up on him. In fact i reckon they are near enough certain to sign Roque for £14m-£16m mark in the summer...

After his injury nightmare this season, his value would have considerably dropped. We should have taken the money and run, because he hasnt been playing so it wouldnt have made a difference to the strength or weakness of our squad. It also says alot, that his best ever season was spent with us, as was the case with Bellamy and Bentley. Its okay to want to play champions league, win trophy's etc but at least try and stay for 2 seasons at us to show ur appreciation.
