thenodrog Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 I think the evidence of the last two windows is that sparky isn't all that fussed whether he buys RSC or not. 1. How could he have signed anybody before January? 2. imo as we were then relegation rivals I don't think Hughes and his boss wanted us to have much brass in our pockets, and if we had then not for long.

LeChuck Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Wasn't that Ben Thatcher? Most certainly was. And, admittedly without being bothered to check the stats, I'm sure that in general midfielders pick up more bookings than defenders. Edit: I bothered in the end. For most yellow cards so far this season, the worst 5 are all midfielders.
Hughesy Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 You would of thought so, they are involved all over the pitch, unlike defenders who's primary job is to defend. Anyway enough of all that anyway - Nicko you heard anything on Barton? Or any movements at ewood for any players in or out?
philipl Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 1. That means he had the July, August 2008 window. 2) So were West Ham (relegation rivals) and they got bailed out to the tune of £14m for Bellamy. Go on, have another go...
Ricky Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Defenders are more likely to pick up straight reds for imposing a player when clean through though surely.
LeChuck Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 I looked at the reds Ricky, there are a load of players on 2 and a load more on 1. There doesn't seem to be any pattern for reds, a pretty even mix of all positions.
TimmyJimmy Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 I've said all I have to on Barton as a prospective signing but want to highlight one extra thing, and that concerns the playing staff. I cannot think of one example where the playing staff at any of Barton's clubs haven't hated him. The latest, Newcastle, have all come out and backed Shearer' stance and virtually said good riddance. If that's the effect he has on team spirit then any upside from gaining his undoubted skills will be p*ssed away through dressing room upset. The net result will be negative. And whilst I'm at it, a comment on Vinjay's quip about not understanding what a family club means and why it should be important. A family club is one where everyone associated with it treats everyone else as if they are family members. That's a good thing right. We put aside differences and look after each other. When it comes to family, as my folks say, 'kick one of us and we all limp'. We all feel part of something good and worthwhile from the fans right through to the kit man and the ladies who mother the young kids who turn up at the academy. In that context Barton is a virus that will eat away at the fabric of our special 'family' club. That's a bad thing in my book.

That's a bad thing in my book. this is surely one of the chief differences between the other so called villains we have had play for us and Barton. The others were by and large appreciated by their team mates and in the case of Savage they appear to have felt he was positive for team morale. Nobody has ever come out and said Barton's a good laugh or whatever. I've never heard anyone except his agent say anythigng nice about him.
Dunnfc Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Ive read about 10 pages of the Barton talk, and i must say it's actually been a good read. I can see the for's and against's. However BRFC has got no money and if Joey Barton who has played for England was available i think we'd be stupid to not go in for him. Bellamy was a nutjob before he came here he'd had different spats etc and always used to be a lesser version of a troublemaker than Barton, he'd also had a chequered playing career. 12 months playing for a club with fabulous suporters who normally back players 100% turned Bellamy's career around it was the support from the fans, a manager who believed in him, the feeling that he was wanted and the knowing that he was on his last footballing chance saved him from being a total footballing loser. I think if Barton does come here the is going to be a 50-50 split on him, however we would have to give him the chance to prove to us that he's capable of being a reliable player for BRFC and I also believe that any contract that Barton signs deservedly has clauses alowing the football club to terminate any such deal if any trouble arose. We as a football club have been a rehab to players we've had players like Bellamy who have needed a last chance to prove that he's a player and an acceptable human being, We've had big boots Bentley who was a self confessed gambling addict who had lost his way in the football world and we turned him into a predicessor to Beckham. I know Barton is far worse than any footballing case to be documented before but I just think if we offer him a contract as long as he's on a free for a few years with get out clauses we've got ourselves a deal. Barton has one last chance he's 25/26 and I think it will be a move to Rovers were fans won't be on his back, were he can enjoy playing football once again, were he can settle down and have support from a fantastic chairman and manager and the chance to reestablish himself as a potencial England centre midfielder. It's a big if but we'd kick ourselves if we didn't take this RISK.
Iceman Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 For the love of Rovers, please no Barton. I can see a nasty scene, if Barton and Diouf dont agree on something. We cant afford to have them both in our squad. Its bound to end in a mess
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 No loss with Simpson going back to O.T. Another Ince flop. He'll be lucky to get a club any higher than the bottom half of Burnley's league in my opinion. Dreadful on the ball without having the defensive skills to make up for it.
gumboots Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 fans won't be on his back, [/b] Since large numbers on here don't want him, I'd suggest that at the first sign of anything negative, they most definitely would be. Even nice guys like the majority of our fans have limits and this guy seems to have got to people who are normally well-balanced in their views.
Backroom DE. Posted May 8, 2009 Backroom Posted May 8, 2009 The fans reaction to Barton will not be a positive influence on the team, that much I firmly believe. Glad to see Simpson going back... not a premiership quality player.
Hughesy Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Yeah Simpson isnt good enough - not when we have Emerton who is much better to start with before we even look at new right backs. Its difficult to gage the fans reaction to Barton because its probably a 50/50 split on here. Im sure if he played for us and in his 1st 2 or 3 games got stuck, bossed the midfield, but didnt cross the line then fans would start to love him. Anyway enough about Barton.
bobsterbrfc Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 I know not everyone is going to agree, but to be honest I'd be absolutely fine with Joey Barton playing for Rovers as I think he IS a decent player and he'd come very much on the cheap. It's paramount we stay in the Premiership by whatever means, the people who didn't want Allardyce are probably the same people who don't want players like Barton and Diouf and maybe even Savage at the club. Our mantra should be 'Whatever keeps us in the top flight'...All the best Big Sam

I'd go for another option if possible, but if needs be, I wudn't mind Barton too much PROVIDED he keeps in line. A club like ours could calm him down as we do not pressure players too much. This may calm him down and get him to be more productive. We could get him scoring and putting SENSIBLE tackles in!! 2mil, 30k a week and a few clauses will suit me fine. (YES, i WOULD pay that much because he IS a good player! He is gerrard-esque in style.)
gumboots Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Are on smack or something?? WTF are you going on and on about now... MODS GET RID OF HIM!! Stop quoting him. Ignore him. Don't respond to him. That way it won't matter what he writes, nobody is reading it. He then can't complain about being banned as he is free to post as much rubbish as he wants but we don't need to see it. Spot on mate. I'd go for another option if possible, but if needs be, I wudn't mind Barton too much PROVIDED he keeps in line. A club like ours could calm him down as we do not pressure players too much. That's more than I would offer offer most players we are likely to sign this summer. He's no longer that good.

I think you may have lost track of what average Premiership players earn nowadays gumboots. I'm pretty sure Pedersen, Diouf and Dunn will earn more than that and hopefully whoever we sign will be better than those three.
tcj_jones Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Sums up my point really about this family club rubbish being a total myth. The fans at this club are just fine, some of the best in the country. You aren't a fan though - there is nothing about the club that you support. You are critical of it in every way and voice your unfounded and undeserved criticism over and over again, trying your very best to wind people up. You are without a doubt the most ungrateful fan that I've ever come across, from any club, in any country. I think that people have been far too tolerant with your one-sided agenda and that the only reason you haven't been banned (again) is because the turnover of members on this board over the last few years has meant that many don't remember who you are.
Hughesy Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 RSC - 65k, Benni 45k, Bentley (Offered) 55k. 30k a week is around Ooijers wage, or maybe Dunn. Its still alot considering Bartons risk. Id say 15k per week + 15k per week if he is available to play.

I don't see most clubs offering the kind of wages they've been offering in the past as most seek to cut their wage bills, either by having fewer players, or by paying average players less or by incentivising contracts with lower basics but more add ons. Reading between the lines of allardyce's interview about players leaving he suggests that the majority of players coming in may not even be as good as what we are getting rid of so don't get your hopes up.
gillibrand Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 As one foreign player stated if you pay peanuts you get monkeys!

What is it I'm supposed to be grateful for? I'm eternally grateful to Jack Walker for what he's done here. There's a couple of players I've criticised (like Dunn a couple of days ago for making what I considered to be disparaging remarks about the club) but in general terms I can't see what I've said to be unsupportive of the team in general. I've criticised the owners and general mentality yes. I think people have been far too tolerant with discussion associated to Blackburn Rovers mergers. Of course I've been critical of that too and rightfully so but of course people ignore that. If I think so little of this club then why is it I'm the one who has full faith in getting a takeover? I've constantly talked up the clubs chances and for some reason people can't stand it.
rog of the rovers Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 I think people are right to have these reservations about Joey Barton, but if you can get him to calm down and play the football he way playing a couple of years ago when he made his England debut and single handedly kept City up, then he'd be an asset to the team. Can Big Sam keep him in check is another question, although if memory serves me correct, Barton was a bit naughty in a Tyne Wear derby during Allardyce's reign at the Toon.
