Hughesy Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Can Big Sam keep him in check is another question, although if memory serves me correct, Barton was a bit naughty in a Tyne Wear derby during Allardyce's reign at the Toon. A bit naughty?

nicko Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Eidur Gudjohnsen wants to come back this summer... Now THAT would be a good signing.
Mozzer Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 his wages would be ridiculous tho.. whats the latest nicko-ie joey barton?? someone mentioned we was going to sign andy van der meyde?? etc etc...
T4E Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Eidur Gudjohnsen wants to come back this summer... Now THAT would be a good signing. Whenever thats been mentioned previously you've always dismissed it due to his 6 figure wages. That likely to change now? Who took him to Bolton, was it Sam?
LeChuck Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 1998 he went there so it was probably Colin Todd. We'd have to get rid of McCarthy because they're quite similar but he would be a terrific signing. I get the feeling he'd go to a club that could offer more money though, I don't think he'll be short of offers.

Who took him to Bolton, was it Sam? Gudjohnsen says he wants to come back...he has had the big wages and probably won't need the same any more. He was looking for mega money a year ago...maybe take a drop now. Sam was his boss at Bolton, but he was a Colin Todd signing. I think he will be one of the better captures of the summer for someone. His agent is now his dad and he has already been talking to clubs. his wages would be ridiculous tho.. whats the latest nicko-ie joey barton?? someone mentioned we was going to sign andy van der meyde?? etc etc... I don't think there is anything in the Barton tale as we speak. The Van der Meyde link has to be some sort of joke.
dellinsert Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Too early to say what you think the summer might hold for us Nicko? And have you seen this damn new kit?
Hughesy Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Nicko - who has his dad held talks with though? Are we one of the clubs?

Agreed - would be a fantastic capture for any team outside the top four and a mjor coup - not sure the relationship between Sam and Eidur would be enough to provide a sprinboard for his capture - would be a master stroke if it is though :-)
nicko Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Nicko - who has his dad held talks with though? Are we one of the clubs? I know one club who spoke to the dad recently...not you. I don't think Rovers can do much about anything right now until they are safe. The priority has to be checking on possible targets just now and doing homework...you don't need to do too much research on Gudjohnsen - that one would come down to cost.
I_saw_Batty_score Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 His agent is now his dad and he has already been talking to clubs. Surely you mean "his dad is now his agent" - unless he's been adopted of course. When you say come back do you mean the Premier League - not just leaving Barca. I've of thought some Italian teams would really suite his style of play.
Laurence Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Surely you mean "his dad is now his agent" - unless he's been adopted of course. Beat me to it
tony gale's mic Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Gudjohnsen would be brilliant but I'd be massively surprised if he ended up at Ewood. We don't even have the same pulling power we did last summer.
LeChuck Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 I've of thought some Italian teams If you're going to be pedant over use of language then you really shouldn't be writing stuff like that!
nicko Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 His agent was Peter Harrison. His agent is now his dad... In football terms that is more important.
Blue n White Rover Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Nicko the clubs that are looking likely to go down (West Brom, Middlesborough, Newcastle), will they have a massive sale of players, or will Newcastle and others be able to fend off interest from any other clubs?

West Brom don't have too many players anyone would want. Middlesbrough have some - the over-rated Downing and the under-rated Tuncay [take him in a minute]. Wheater could go, maybe Johnson as well...big trouble ahead there. Newcastle are already willing to pay the taxi fare to get rid half of their over-paid failures.
Lathund Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Rovers scouts watched centre half Ragnar Sigurdsson yet again in IFK Göteborg's 3-0 win last night, where he played well and scored his second goal of the season ( was quite special). Rangers had scouts there watching him too. There were plenty of players to watch though, and I don't know how accurate newspaper GP were in claiming who was watching who. According to them at least. his fellow centre half, Mattias Bjärsmyr was watched by Feyenoord and Alkmaar amongst others. They were also unsure on who some clubs watched, as there could be plenty of players. IFKs team is a very young one, with plenty of local talent, which is drastically different to most Swedish clubs. Pontus Wernbloom signed for AZ a few days ago for £2.5m, and I'd expect more players to follow. I'd hope we were there watching 17 year old striker Robin Söder, but he's not the type of striker who'd be suited to play as a lone striker under Sam. Though he has played on the wing (In a 4-2-3-1 system) in some games this season. Anyhow, I remember us being linked with Sigurdsson before, and this would lend further credibility to those stories I guess.

Perhaps our turk could have a word about how good our club is to be at?
deryck guyler's spoon Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 i too would take Tuncay but won't they want a fair bit for him? Perhaps our turk could have a word about how good our club is to be at? Tuncay would be great. He is a footballer however, so would probably not fit in at Ewood currently.
gumboots Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Tuncay would be great. He is a footballer however, so would probably not fit in at Ewood currently. He couldn't come currently anyway so perhaps next season.
LeChuck Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Tuncay would be great. He is a footballer however, so would probably not fit in at Ewood currently. What a stupid, stupid post. Bolton had plenty of good footballing players, the idea that Sam can't attract them (or even more ridiculous, want them) here is ridiculous. Read Milner's comments from earlier in the week (the article was saying he thought Newcastle would have stayed up with Sam in charge): "But he never told us to just hit it. We had the players to play and Allardyce wanted us to do that.” I can't believe how bad this board is at the moment, I really can't.

Iceman Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 LeChuck i just get the feeling that Sams tactics was used to keep Bolton up. He is doing the same here, because we dont have the money to buy us out of trouble. We cant go around playing fancy football, if its going to get us relegated. Ince's biggest mistake, was that he didnt try and change the way he set us out to play. Sam has realised that, we cant play the free flowing football, but instead a brand of football that has almost saved our season. WHO THE **** DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? Bit uncalled for that, something i got banned for

As a long time lurker who posts a bit more recently, I've seen that some of the contributors on here seem to get on their high horse a bit and are often pompous, dismissive and sarcastic when disagreeing with certain points. These people are best decribed as keyboard warriors and there is no need on what is supposed to be a debating forum. The individual my question was aimed at is one of the chief offenders.
