there's aimless hit and hope hoofball and there's puposeful hoofball. see Arsenal kick it for Walcott yesterday? See Liverpool kick it for Torres or chelsea for drogba? If it's hit forward to the run of a striker that's surely great play.

According to MotD it is. When we do it, it's 'hoofball'

Some people have missed the point.

100% agree.

Carragher to Torres or Ferdinand to Ronaldo.

Nelsen's distribution is poor and no pace upfront. That's why we are playing hoofball and not brilliant top 4 stuff.

United, Liverpool, even Arsenal often use the long ball game during a match. The difference is that they mix it about and don't rely on that style all the time.

From what i've seen of recent games we aren't a purely long ball team, especially against Pompey i thought we played some short neat stuff as well, so i find the criticism from the media unfair.

Will be interesting to see if Big Sam is at the North East game tonight......

I'm willing to bet that if he is, and if Boro score. He will sit their in a dark corner chuckeling to himself...

i went on a stag do to watch hertha berlin play borussia dortmund in germany about 2 years ago. (was ace) and was particularly impressed by a young lad by the name of Nuri Sahin. He's about 21/22 i'd guess by now. he had a killer pass, with a wicked left foot. centre-mid playmaker. reckon we could make a punt because i'm sure the prem would seem better than the german league?? he'd be perfect for us. oh by the way....he's TURKISH!!!

Looking at Cisse's form, prior to moving to sunderland, his goal record doesn't make bad reading. 24 in 51 apperances for marseille, even this season playing for a poor sunderland team he's managed 10 in 31. If we could get some creativity in our team, I'm sure he would bang them in for us.

I think theres nothing in the Carlos extension. Its only come from one source as well.

Also depends on audax's intentions for Carlos--- if they have recieved any interest from Continental

or South American clubs (unlikely this bit, i know). San Lorenzo was interested at one point, but

they're skint now and in June they'll clearing the baby w/ the bath water .

I'm w/ you on this though... I cannot see Big Friendly Sam wanting him back again next season...

Rovers are on course for a large turnover of players, but IMO bringing Carlos back doesn't serve a purpose, unfortunately.

Agree Hughesy Adam Johnson is a great player just lacking in a final ball.

Yeah but he's a superstar in Holland. Feyenoord would most likely want a huge fee for him!

i had sympathy for cisse , he was signed for liverpool by houllier , but never got to play for him , benitez played him out wide rather than throught the mddle , then he goes and breaks his leg , cant really say he had a good season , but then sunderland are a poor side , anything upto 5m would be intersting

surely with boro now looking cert to go down we should be banging on the door for tuncay? would make a valuable addition to our midfield in the mould of our soon to be retired turkish craftsman

I think Tuncay will be off elsewhere.

Although at possibly at fault for Newcastle's first, I thought Bates had a decent game and made some good interceptions. He's available on a free in the summer and, as he can (and possibly prefers to) play right back he'd be a good replacement should Ooijer move on.

The only other realistic one that I wouldn't mind would be O'Neil, although I thought he was quite poor tonight. Downing will be sold and they'll play Johnson every week on the left, I doubt they'll sell both of them. If Aliadiere could finish he'd be worth a look but seems to lack an end product.

I thought he was at fault for newcastles third as well. I have a mate who used to go to school with Bates and he seemed to think he was a bit rubbish. I would take Tuncay in a flash and i rate Andy Johnson over Downing. I dont think we will go for anyone from Middlesbrough though.

For right back i think we will stick Emerton in there again next season.

Is Martins not the one that nobody knows his real age? Either way he is class and has real pace & power. City have bigger fish to fry, Everton - well they are always skint so they say......

If you watch Martins now, he has neither pace nor power.

 So did you watch him then??? The only player of real class on the pitch

Also did anyone see Sam there?
