RibbleValleyRover Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 OK, let me ask you this. Let's say you were Sam and you ended up selling Santa, Warnock and Samba (not out of choice) in Summer and it brought in, say, £20m. How much money do you think you would need to replace them? My point is I reckon this season has been a warning shot for the Trustees. I hope they provide the manager with more financial backing this time around. We've been the Crewe of the Premier League for long enough. Good point, money will need to be spent to replace the players we lose as well as bring in players to strengthen in that scenario. After a difficult season it could be hard to attract players of that calibre as well. Ideally in order to really strengthen and push on next season we need to keep our best players here and strengthen the weaker areas. Sam should be in a position where he doesn't have to sell to buy, but thats isn't likely to happen. Samba for me out of those three is the one we must keep, i can see his value going up and he is the only defender we have with decent pace.

Guest benmaxwell Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I think it'll end up being: 12 Out... Including departing loanies, out of contract/retiring players and sold... 6-7 In... Has Danny Simpson already returned to United? He's not listed in the Rovers page on Wiki?

My point is I reckon this season has been a warning shot for the Trustees. I hope they provide the manager with more financial backing this time around. We've been the Crewe of the Premier League for long enough. But why are we talking about selling our best 3 players? Nobody has said that is the case, and it isn’t usually in the past. I agree this season has been a warning shot that investment is needed… however I don’t agree that we would get relegated next season without our current squad of players. (Sam has proved that since he came in) There 1 player we MUST NOT sell is Samba. He is still young, he is a great player and will only get better & he is a major asset.
Guest benmaxwell Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Yeah he left earlier this week. Yeah it's comfirmed on SkySports as 'Loan Cancelled'... http://www.skysports.com/football/player/0..._325985,00.html Nicko. Did you find anything out about that snippet of info i gave you?
den Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Am I right in thinking Emerton might be out for the start of next season? Yes, Bert himself said that on Saturday. More often than not, players who miss the pre-season take quite some time to re-establish themselves in the team.
Hughesy Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I'm just thinking worst case scenario. I never feel confident as a Rover when the transfer window comes and the big clubs come to vulturise clubs like Rovers. IF they do AND they take those three players, who are the ones most likely to attract bids, then we will certainly get at least £20m for them. You're right, it's hypothetical, but probable, as well as being what I THINK will happen. Then what? Of course, you don't have to answer if you think it's pointless If rovers were to sell them 3, then id expect at least £30m - which im sure Big Sam would be able to sign plenty with
thenodrog Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 But why are we talking about selling our best 3 players? Truth is that there will be fewer clubs in the market this summer. Supply and demand should see a switch in emphasis.

nicko Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Nicko. Did you find anything out about that snippet of info i gave you? The game you mentioned was covered...but more to assess a future opponent than a potential signing. Thanks for the tip all the same.
Paul Mellelieu Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 i went on a stag do to watch hertha berlin play borussia dortmund in germany about 2 years ago. (was ace) and was particularly impressed by a young lad by the name of Nuri Sahin. He's about 21/22 i'd guess by now. he had a killer pass, with a wicked left foot. centre-mid playmaker. reckon we could make a punt because i'm sure the prem would seem better than the german league?? he'd be perfect for us. oh by the way....he's TURKISH!!! What a coincidence, i was at the same game on a lads' weekend. Going to a German football match is a great experience. I must write up my recent trip to St. Pauli in Hamburg. Now that is an experience.

You can fill us in on what you thought of our youngster David Hoilett who is on loan at St Pauli trying to get a work permit and is supposed to be a very talented player.
hollowsr Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 In the Telegraph tomorrow: We are apparantly after Bojan (Yes the Bojan, Barca Striker) on loan for next season. I very much doubt he's even heard of us!

I very much doubt he's even heard of us! No chance! I know Sam has made some cracking transfers in the past but surely this is beyond his powers...

I very much doubt he's even heard of us! I refuse to believe any rumours this early on but if this comes off anytime in the future i will be loving it! He is an absolute class act. Bojan Link
T4E Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Holy crap....surely we're not really in with a shout of making that happen....are we?
RibbleValleyRover Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I see Dzeko has been scoring again, another two goals: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11895_5318744,00.html Surely well out of our price range now if he decides to leave, though with Wolfsburg at the top of the table and the champions league a serious possibility he might stay put.
Amo Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Can't see Sam pulling Bojan out of the hat, but there's no harm in making these audacious little bids.
RibbleValleyRover Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Its worth a go thats for sure. Its clear that Bojan needs games under his belt to progress his development and a club like Rovers would definitely offer him that. By the looks of that article its been confirmed we have made an enquiry so we shall see what happens. I don't think he will come but i have to applaud Sam if this is true.
Hughesy Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Makes a difference to not be linked with a league 2 goalkeeper. I have full faith in Sam, if he pulls this deal off then he has instant legend status ha! Also he doesnt fit to the supposed 'allardyce style' of hoof ball - so its obvious his plan is to play a different way

I very much doubt he's even heard of us! Bojan is quality, no chance that we could get him apart from a loan at this stage of his career. If Barca don't let any of there front few go then they may want him to gain first team experience.
Guest Vinjay606 Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 If FC Barcelona have a top young prospect available for loan no reason why BRFC shouldn't be interested. This is a great club fully established in one of the best leagues in the world so there's no reason not to make an offer.

If Barca don't let any of there front few go then they may want him to gain first team experience. The article on the website states that Barcelona definitly want to loan him out to gain experience and Almeria (SP?) have made an equiry. It claims they want to wait until after the champions league final before anything is sorted out though.
Guest Vinjay606 Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Got all summer to sort out such a move so any short delay over a decision won't change anything.
modes98 Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 The article on the website states that Barcelona definitly want to loan him out to gain experience They are probably spot on, hense my comment that I think we could only ever get him on loan and nothing more. Not that I would be complaining at having him for a year and him ripping apart premiership defences for fun. He would be my next years shirt name and worth the season ticket price on his own.
