I really don't know what planet mozzer is on but he/she was nowhere near the Premier League in the last three years whilst Pompey/'arry were rolling in the Gaydamaks' money.

Remember the Gaydamaks are paying Campbell £90K a week, James £75K a week, Defoe considerably more than the £50K he was on at Spuds, topped Johnson's £60K a week from his Chelsea days and paid £60K a week to Diarra blowing the Rovers' interest in him out of the water. In the last published accounts, Pompey's wage bill was £58m against our £36m.

However, the story is in rapid reverse- Diarra, Campell, James, Defoe and others are certain to be shipped out of Pompey in January BECAUSE the Gaydamaks are in deep icky stick.

It is looking likely the January window will have come and gone before they can conclude a club sale and such is their need to stop cash draining and to bring cash in from asset sales, they will have to start moving the players out just eight working days from now.

not everyone is aware of the finances in football Philip..not everyone knows what players earn-you probably have this information so therefore no we couldnt of got him-however did i?? no..i wouldnt of thought glen johnson was on 60k a week-i mean he wasnt even a regular at chelsea-so they was paying 60k for a bench player...without me knowing exactly how much he was on-i thought we could have had a chance of getting him..

never mind eh..some of us dont know these interesting financial stats like a certain someone...

Not realistic move. Fulham could sell Bullard. What a player he would be for us! Of course he has a history of serious injuries. Steve Finnan could be a right back we need. Just read that he has played only four matches in Spain. Couldn´t cost much. There´s not too many right wingers available. Has anyone seen lately that Czech fellow Sionko playing? Plays for Copenhagen in Denmark. Impressed last summer and would definetely want a move to PL.

Sionko just signed a new 3 year deal at FCK, and Copenhagen are still in Europel. So in dont think so, and Copenghagen are proberly one of the most richest clubs in Europe. They dont need to sell any one.

In his first press conference when he was officially named as the new boss, he did answer questions from the bbc reporters.

BBC Radio Lancs for one. He needs to do that though cos we need them as much as they need us. It's the time to do a deal with them from a position of strength.

Don't shoot the messenger mozzer. Philips not always right by a long chalk but it might help you to try doing a little research of your own.

John Williams has a brief article in the Times today where he says that if Rovers go down then the club will probably go out of business. He says that the income will drop from £52m to £22m and that since expenditure on wages is 85% of turnover then most of the current players will be sold and the spiral of decline begins! No pressure on Big Sam then!

If teams from Nottingham, Sheffield, Leeds etc. can't handle the drop then it goes without saying that we won't be able to...unless the trust pumps money in, but why would they do that to a Championship club?

I think we'd quickly end up as an 'also-ran' in the Championship.

I was at that interview - asked the question about finances - and that is NOT what he said or meant.

Typical broadsheets, eh. ;)

Better tale is in the Mirror.

just a thought , when sam looks around the dressing room before todays game , how many of them players have been involved in relagtion scraps? Dunn? that possibly could be it! he may want to spend that reported £10m on players who have , which just may bring players to the fore like , Ben Haim , Bullard and Davies

Dear Admin

Just as an aside that facility thingy that makes Lankashire United appear as Blackburn Rovers.... can it be adapted to change the word 'Mirror' into 'HoltandLewisareevilandmalicioustwots'? We shouldn't even be reading it never mind quoting it on here until a retraction is published.

Good article Nicko interesting read...

Seem's that Williams, the manager and the board are financially prepared for the drop and don't expect us to be stopping down for more than one season, two at the worst, beyond that Heaven knows what we will do.

Nicko you said you was going to go a bit more into detail about the removal of Ince when things have quietened down, is it the time to explain what happened behind the scenes earlier this week yet?

The decision was taken quickly after the game on Saturday...one top director told players he 'had to go.'

John Williams had stood by him for the extra match - I think he would have gone after Liverpool but the 'leaks' possibly caused embarassment. But the chairmen knew too.

There was a big pow-wow on Monday, but that was to sort out finances and strategy - with a short-list already drawn up before the manager went.

Sam wasn't the only one spoken to. Mancini got an interview. But Sam knows the score and what was needed, so got the vote.

Souey's chances went when they decided to go long-term rather than short-term.

There WILL be money to spend, Sam has convinced them he knows how to spend. It could be on short-term deals or loan signings...because I can't see to many rushing to join permanently in the current position.

It's ironic that they came back to Sam, the original leak story proved to be correct. He was obviously in their thoughts after the Man U debacle.

Players were being consulted all the way through about what was going on. Some who have stood by Ince in public but a bit more honest in private.

Anyway, what is past is past.

Onwards and upwards etc.

I think we can read too much into this sometimes.

Charlie Nicholas and the 'gang' were just talking about this on Sky. It was a decent discussion.

Archie Knox is very old school and very simplistic. There is no doubt in Charlie's view that he would have not been to everyone's liking (Charlie used to work under Knox).

This is not surprising, look at his track record of rubbing past players he has coached up the wrong way (it has happened a few times).

In addition, as a recent article pointed out, Ince was very much a socialiser (as someone's article recently pointed out), and his back room men were the ones telling the players how it is. However, it should be the manager telling the players home truths with the coaching staff putting an arm round them when they needed it.

Without being too critical, some of the panel suggested that Ince got things wrong in this respect. Only the numpty Phil Thompson said we should have given him more time.

Anyway, what has been done has been done, this is the past - hopefully happier times will be our future.

Mancini was interviewed ? ! We couldn't take the risk could we.

Yep the more I think about it the more I think JW made the right choice, which was pretty much opposite to the feeling I had in the summer with Laudrup/HTC and Ince.

It is a tantalising thought though, because when you think of the players he could have attracted to Ewood it would easily have been the most exciting managerial appointment since Kenny, but with the trouble we're in our first priority was to get out of this mess.

My exact sentiments Tyrone! But thinking it through, Big Sam's the right and rational choice given our current predicament. Mind you, if this was six months back, I'd be livid if we did not go for Mancini. But right now, Sam is by far the more pragmatic choice. Just imagine what things would have been if we had not appointed Ince *somewhat wistfully...*

Might be a long shout here but if we were looking for a striker what would you think of Kevin Doyle?

If we are going to be a team that will be effective from set pieces he fits the bill perfectly, saw him score 2 goals against us on the last game of the 2006/07 season from corners, he is scoring goals regularly this year in the championship 15 goals in 23 games (according to wiki lol).

I know he isn't a glamour signing but I think he'd fit well with Sam's style of play so long as he has someone (Roberts) winning the ball for him.

Anyone heard anything about Alan Smith?

He's not fit atm, but Sam's always been a fan. I think he played every game for Newcastle while he was in charge. I can see him being available as well.

Problem with Alan Smith is he has been rubbish for about four years now! Surely we will aim higher than that.
