PAFELL Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I remember that alright but the rumour didnt gather much pace, maybe our freind at the mirror may shed some light!?! Are you trying to start the Nicko thread early? Who incidently may not be in the best of form / moods if / when the dingles stay down.

Bennisfromheaven Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Are you trying to start the Nicko thread early? Who incidently may not be in the best of form / moods if / when the dingles stay down. Well we may as well have some excitement after the year we've had!!
Iceman Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Teko Modise we should at least give a trial. Damn, i said Pienaar we should get and people laughed at me. Modise is a very good player, better than Pienaar and a very pacy central midfielder. Anyway its just me being a biased South African again. Doyle better than Benni, hmm okay whatever. Benni, Crouch, Roberts, and Tchite would be nice. Btw Tchite can play right wing and central midfield as well. Would like to see Tchite, Nolan, Hunt, Seiterides and Crouch join.
Guest benmaxwell Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Nicko. Have you got any idea what state our transfer budget will be in this summer. I mean obviously, to a certain extent, it is dependent on Roque being sold for a decent fee. But we have been offloading players since Sam arrived presumably to make some room on the wage budget, not to mention players who look like leaving/retiring anyway, and i would think we wouldn't be doing this unless we knew we had a little money to spend... In your opinion: Will we be getting any of the tv money to reinvest in the squad? Will the Walker Trusties be making their payment of 3 million this summer? Will Sam be intrusted with any further money to rebuild the squad?
Backroom Tom Posted May 13, 2009 Backroom Posted May 13, 2009 Speculation has started early this time! Thought Villanueva was the "special one" last year? Now its some 18 year old from Barcelona. We need good, strong, speedy British players who have skill but also have the workrate to go with it not some young inexperienced foreigners. I don't understand this logic at all, I'd rather buy a bargain from abroad than an overpriced average englishman, the prices English players go for is just daft.
Hughesy Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Tonygreen - I understand what your saying but Bojan is of a far greater quality than anyone in our squad.

Are you talking of Bojan at Barcelona; the greatest prospect for his age in World football? No chance in hell he will be going anwhere; the next Messi.
Ossydave Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Are you talking of Bojan at Barcelona; the greatest prospect for his age in World football? No chance in hell he will be going anwhere; the next Messi. Bojan is available on loan
Dunnfc Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Regarding the Bojan situation, they let Gio Dos Santos leave to go to Spurs last year and he was billed as big at Barca as Bojan.
RevidgeBlue Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Tonygreen - I understand what your saying but Bojan is of a far greater quality than anyone in our squad. Might be, might not be. Very little senior experience and absolutely diminutive in stature if I recall correctly. Can't see there's a hope in hell of this going through now other Clubs have effectively been alerted to his potential availability but for us slightly older timers it brings back warm and happy memopries of the last time we raided Barcelona - for Steve Archibald on loan in the mid 1980's. And we had a lot less clout then than now.
Fylde Coast Fan Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Regarding the Bojan situation, they let Gio Dos Santos leave to go to Spurs last year and he was billed as big at Barca as Bojan. And now he's at Ipswich, and not particularly setting the Championship on fire either. Frail teens from Barca aren't my first thought when I imagine a "Big Sam player".
Backroom DE. Posted May 13, 2009 Backroom Posted May 13, 2009 Dos Santos is a mile ahead of any player in the Championship. You can tell when you watch him he's a class above the rest in that league, not his fault he's surrounded by players of inferior quality. Scored 4 in 8 I believe. Will be a class player, given time.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Bojan missed with a header I could have scored against Chelsea in the 1st leg.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Hughes missed a sitter against Burnley my gran could have scored, even the best can miss.
modes98 Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Bojan missed with a header I could have scored against Chelsea in the 1st leg. In which case give them a call and earn yourself millions a year. He is 18, hardly played any first team football but yet has still broken most of the footballing records at barca on his way.

And we had a lot less clout then than now. Remember it (vaguely) well Rev. Didn't he score on his debut in a 2-0 win? Probably totally wrong here but didn't Jack start getting involved with Rovers around this time? Just he only went all in after he sold Walkersteel.
tonygreenbank Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Don't be a (xenophobic?) fool. We won't be signing many British players, we don't have the ££££. Young, inexperienced foreigners is exactly what we need. We should follow the Wigan model. I dont know which word I object to the most xenophobic or fool. How dare you write that reply? My comment was based on the fact that Villanueva`s imminent arrival was greeted with excitement last year. But I dont think he has fulfilled his promise. Excuse me for being sceptical this time round.
novella Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 People need to remember this would be a loan deal. If he came over and turned out to be rubbish then it wouldnt be a great big loss. We could be linked to a league 2 player again if thats what people prefer. At least this time we are setting the bar a bit higher.

Probably totally wrong here but didn't Jack start getting involved with Rovers around this time? Just he only went all in after he sold Walkersteel. At the time I wasn't aware Jack had any involvement with either the Club at that point or with the Archibald deal, although the reality behind the scenes might of course have been totally different!
Hughesy Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 To be fair to this kid though, hes of a complete different class. 18 years old - already has 12 la liga goals and 19 goals for Spains Youth teams. You dont get in the barca team if your poor

I'm getting really sick of seeing this comment that is blatantly aimed at the likes of Keith Andrews. He has done very well considering. He has done a far better job then the likes of Vince Grella who cost 4 times more then him. Don't see Vince getting any flack? This is just a example of how you can spend big and get nothing, and spend low and get a real gem. Vince, a player with European experience at both domestic and International level. Keith, only just getting into International footie and has no domestic International experience. If it means paying less for a quality player, whether he be playing for Real Madrid or Runcorn. I couldn't give a damn if he does a good job for the club. Keith has done a much better job then most people expected. I wouldn't be disappointed to see him still at the squad as a squad player next season. Give the guy a break...

To be fair mate personally I dont mind keith andrews, never said a bad word about him.......I think you have missed the point. Moan when we are linked to a league 2 player, moan when we are linked to top european prospects.
nicko Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 On Seitaridis... Sam was going over to watch him in January but he did not play...it's been that kind of season for him. I could see him turning up for training in July, mind you. I will have some news on the financial front by Sunday... The manager was at Nice v Marseille tonight, by the way. He may have been disappointed.
