I agree, no one (maybe Hughsey) will want to buy Santa Cruz this summer. Even Hughes may have gone off the Paraguayan, after all, he has so much money to spend and he could buy a better and fitter player. I'm sure some clubs will dislike Santa Cruz's attitude towards rovers as well - after all, we did give him the opportunity to play in England. Clubs want loyal players, who want to play for their club and a player with the attitude of Santa Cruz will probably put clubs off buying him. Similar to Bellamy at West Ham - played very few games but left as soon as he got the chance. Clubs don't want that. They want quality players who are willing to give their all for their club. Santa Cruz ceratinly hasn't done that this season for rovers.

At Rovers there is no such thing as loyalty these days, unless your name is Tugay or Emerton. Players, and so called big names who have fallen off the radar will just use us as a stepping stone to bigger things and clubs.

I remember him being pretty good, but why is there a picture of Neil Warnock on the story??

Look again, he's actually about to articulate "Fat Sam". Can't believe you didn't see the obviousness of it.

Again. Don't get this. If Warnock is out the door, then why are we using him as our main marketing tool at the moment for the launch of next seasons merchandise. It doesn't make sense that we would be advertising next years merchandise on a player who isn't even going to be here to wear it...

Do you not see the link Ben between the AWAY kit and Warnock.

Warnock models the away kit, because hes soon to be away, such irony. :o

The article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...ckburn-man.html

Revidge, you must know several things about English footballers by now. They command a much higher fee, usually about twice or thrice the value that they actually are.

Errr......... correct.

But aren't you arguing against your own post there? Why would Bent (as an English player) not be similarly overvalued now? Particularly with the new rules coming in?

I'm certain Roque will still go, probably for around £10-£12 million.

There's no way his injuries this season have knocked £10 million off his price tag, as long as he passes a medical at wherever he goes.

Errrr...... completely agree that potential buyers will value RSC at 10-12m now.

Isn't that actually about 10m less than his valuation in January?

Can't see Spurs would value Bent at significantly less if an exchange deal was in the offing.

We have been linked with plenty of players this week: Blackburn leading the chase for Jerome Rothen

Not wearing too well for 31, he looks remarkably like Neil Warnock!

Agree with ben maxwell on this, we need to be lowering the average age of the team. Not keen on bringing in too many players the wrong side of 30 unless they're exceptional.

I wouldn't be making too many assumptions about Emerton before you see what he's capable of. This time last year the same people were bigging up Steven Reid -" It'll be like having a new centre midfielder" and similar #. We all know what happened next , he played for about 5 minutes and then broke down again. Anything we get from Emmo this season will be a plus, we need a replacement attacking centre midfielder this summer and I don't mean Andrews.

I had £18 million in my mind for some reason and was thinking nearer £12 million now than £10 million. But still, point taken.

That's not a very fair comparison. Emerton's had one bad injury which has kept him out for the season, we've had the same happen to players like Ooijer and Savage in the past and they've come back fine from them.

Reid is perennially injured - with a pretty varied catalogue too. Dunn is a similar boat. It's those types of players who you can't really rely on when they are returning.

Emerton is a naturally fit player who doesn't have a history of being injured, I think to say 'anything we get is a bonus' is doing him a great disservice - he might not be ready to go at 100% from the first day but I imagine he'll be an integral part of the team again after a couple of months, whatever position he finds himself in.

So...

Jerome Rothen (31) - still a left midfielder, or has he moved into the centre the last few years? Great player a few years back, fantastic left foot.

Bojan Krkic - immensely talented, but surely out of reach? Not the finished article either, who knows if he can make it in the Premiership, and in a team like Rovers atm.

Seitaridis - bring him in! What a player he can be.

Dzeko - out of reach now -_-

Janko? Zigic?

Darren Bent or Peter Crouch might be better options. Sick and tired of Santa Cruz now - I think he ought to keep his mouth shut at least until he has performed again. Marcus Stewart had one season too, as did Kevin Phillips. I like Roque, and I've always understood the reasons for his earlier quotes - but the garbage coming out at the moment? Is he that desperate?

Any idea on the Rothen rumour, Nicko? I've noticed that you haven't commented on Bojan either?

Even with todays advanced surgical techniques his injury is a very serious one. Until I see him back to full match fitness I'm not counting our chickens.

Ooijer and Savage both had broken legs, Emmo's is a cruciate injury. I would argue that neither of those two returned to the form they were showing before their injuries.

Anyone else seen this?

http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,1...5321747,00.html

This is the type of player we should be looking for; Young, lots of potential and playing in a small league so shouldnt' cost too much.

Nicko - Any truth in this or is this just some agent hyping things up again.

Cant see us getting him - too expensive. Spurs would out bid us if they are intrested too.

Blackburn Rovers will demand £20m in exchange for in-demand Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz. (The Mirror)

While Paris-St-Germain midfielder Jerome Rothen could be on his way to Ewood Park after being told he is free to leave by his current employers. (Various)

Defender Gael Givet, who has been on loan from Marseille since January, could also be snapped up by Sam Allardyce on a £3.5 million deal

Also another one we should show an interest in -

Hamilton boss Billy Reid has told teenager James McCarthy he will not stand in his way should he decide he wants to move to Celtic in a £500,000 switch

ROTHEN...there could be something in that, out of contract, maybe slightly old, but a very respected left winger...and he is being watched this weekend...the only down side is that he is on big wages and would not come as cover for MGP...let's be honest MGP is still a better long-term bet...interesting name all of the same...played a lot of games this season, classy and still fit.

BOJAN...I would be pleasantly surprised if that was right...with the emphasis on 'surprised.'

BIGLIA...one look at the price tells you it may be a long shot.

MIDFIELDER...may be able to name one of the targets tomorrow...freebie.

Still have this horrible feeling that the transfer works are going to be jammed up by Roque and his fitness.

Rothen was a class player at Monaco. But hasnt been the same in the last couple of seasons. Never had any pace, so age shouldnt cause a drop in his quality but form hasnt been the best. Potential didnt get realized after the CL final a few seasons ago.

He is definitely a better crosser than MGP and a more consistent player. I dont know about MGP being a better bet to be honest, cause he hasnt looked half the player he was 3 years ago, and now we have completely 2 full seasons with him in the doldrums.

Hoping for Maniche or even Sean Davis, fearing that it might be Barton. Fingers crossed!

Edit: I think Mark van Bommel is also available on a free come the end of the season. Now that would be a quality signing - perhaps Andre could have a quiet word with him and big up the Rovers ^_^

Rothen seems to play as much, if not more, in the centre for PSG when I see them (confirmation Eddie?), so I doubt it's to move into MGP's spot. More likely he'd be placed in the middle. A great signing for the next few years anyway if the overall costs are acceptable. Having a former European Cup Final teammate (Givet) as well as another French-speaker (Samba) should help Sam in the recruitment process.
