The vultures are hovering over Boro & West Brom..As stated earlier I reckon theres something well worth salvaging here..Bolton are now in for OBrien..we need to take a quick look before the best is gone..

West Brom:

Players who might be worth taking a look at, at those 2 teams. Special mention for ****.

- Chris Brunt ****

- Gianni Zuiverloon

- Jonas Olsson

Boro:

- Justin Hoyte

- Gary O'Neil ****

- Tuncay Şanlı (doubtful)

- Adam Johnson ****

- David Wheater

and would we be likely to turn down that size of bid? You say you want 20 to set the mark, knowing that everyone always comes in lower. You have that as the public price and in your own minds you have what would actually be accepted. you don't communicate that to anyone else. We all know enough about bargaining to know how it works and so do all football clubs. If 15 is bid in an acceptable paying format and the player fancies the buying club, then the deal gets done. If not then you have to think again.

As long as he's not here next season and we've gotten a good price for him i'll be happy.

Bridge has only played 12 games for Chelsea in the first half of the season, only 6 of which were in the league.

Bellamy had managed 17 games for West Ham, but had only scored 5 goals. He spent most of August and September out injured.

It's not beyond the realms of possibility that we get a similarly good price out of City.

Considering those stats are for half of a season and both - particualrly Bellamy - had been playing well for a number of games before the transfer it is a very different scenario.

Crouch's record doesn't look very good here. I must admit I thought he was a more regular scorer than that.

Considering he'll turn 29 next season I wouldn't want to be paying £10 million for him. £7 million max for me.

Wiki isn't the best for this sort of thing.

According to Soccerbase his stats for this last 3 clubs are as follows -

Southampton - 24 (13) apps, 16 goals

Liverpool - 82 (40) apps, 40 goals

Portsmouth - 46 (1) apps, 16 goals

In the same period of time he's scored 15 goals in 32 games for England (not sure how many off the bench).

Far better than any of our current strikers, one of which we want £15m+ for despite being only two years younger.

Agree on the price, I'd stretch to £8m at most given Pompey's money issues. Would be delighted if we got him for that amount.

Crouch would be a fantastic signing for us, he's a very very good player. Can't believe anyone would think he's not good enough for us.

I just don't see Crouch as that dominant of a striker, even with his good scoring record over the past few years.

Bellamy had played 17 of West Ham's 24 games by the time he left - so missed nearly 1/3 of the games in half a season. And again, he only scored 5 goals in half a season. Hardly £14m worth.

For the record Bridge had played 12 of 26 games.

Better than Benni? Didnt realise but he has been fairly prolific under sam, 9 goals since sam came in (Anyone know how many he has played in that time)

I just get the feeling that they aren't willing to do it for Santa Cruz.

I'm pretty sure Wheater won't leave Boro voluntarily, they'd have to get a good offer for him. Besides of which, I don't think we need him.

Tuncay, on the other hand, would be a good buy for the right price. His reputation has suffered a little from playing in a terrible Boro team this year. Shocking to see how far Downing has fallen, a shell of the player he used to be. Not sure whether it's a confidence thing or whether he was just overrated to begin with.

Probably a bit of both. Like Pedersen really - over-rated by many and then loses confidence. with confidence can get back to more or less what he was - good but never outstanding.

I think we should re-sign Robbie Fowler. A great player in his prime and still has a great amount to offer in the Premiership!!!!

(Please don't use that word again) it's been a long and stressful season.

Did you see him at Ewood for the Pompey game?

Easy to believe 24,000 people thinking he wouldn't be good enough for us.

Thanks for the numbers on Bridge and Bellamy- neither were ripping up trees before a combined £26m got expended and, let's be honest, neither have been outstanding at Wasteland either.

Amazingly, Benni has only started 12 games since Sam arrived and come on as sub 4 times. The lad is back to being one of the most prolific strikers in the League when he is on the pitch if Hughesy is right and he's bagged 9 in that time!!

To be fair... a lot of that had to do with Pompey's tactics. Very negative, Crouch was stranded up front for large periods of the game. Despite his height, he's never been as good in the air as he should be. Still, even when he did manage to knock it down against us he rarely had anybody running onto the ball to support him. Probably not a very good game to judge him on.

Wheater to Liverpool... you read it here first :)

He'd be a decent Hyypia replacement I guess, especially if he wants to replace the physical presence that Hyypia gave them.

I can see Boro getting decimated by their relegation, they've got a lot of players that would perform well in other teams, they just had something missing as a unit.

Crouch would be a waste of money....we've got Samba for all that malarky and he's better on't floor....Crouch is ok against 2nd rate defences....if you look at his england goals, they're all against questionable sides.......in the premier league it's different...every week you're up against top quality...

For what he'd cost and his wages, no chance!!! :rover:

I'd like to see adam johnson(boro), ishmale miller(wba), perhaps huddleston in roque part-ex, pennant.

That would do me..

Pompey 1, Wigan 1, Spurs 1, Sunderland 1, Bolton 1, Newcastle 1, City 1, Stoke 2

I wonder how much of Roque's injuries this season have been down to the tender mercies of Meester Ince?

If you don't get properly fit pre-season then get injured, I should imagine it's a proper sod to get injury-free again, even if the manager improves.

Hughes will look at what cruz did for him when he was at Rovers and was able to keep him fairly injury-free.

Agreed!
