In all competitions:

Benni: 19 (12) games, 13 goals, 4 assists

RSC: 21 (6) games: 6 goals, 2 assists

Injuries or not, when they've played Benni has the better record.

And how many of this Benni Goals were Penalties? Also if Benni has had the chance to leave Rovers he would not be at Rovers now, that`s for sure.

Rothen has been pretty much ever-present for PSG since he moved here in 2004, but he hasn't exactly been spectacular. He's been a mediocre player in a side that has, for most of that period, been mediocre (and sometimes worse) in Ligue 1. As a squad player in the premiership? Perhaps. He'll never be anything more than that.

Rothen is a kind of skilful, aggressive version of Gamst, if I remember rightly. A foot race between those two would be interesting - and slow.

Right and so where did Santa Cruz figure into that equation before he signed for 3.5 million? Or Benni for a similar fee? Or Bellamy? We passed up Dzeko in January and he's now one of Europe's top prospects. The sooner we get rid of this crocked ass of a player the better. I don't want anyone at my football club talking about how much he wants to leave; I wouldn't care if it is Keith Andrews or Pele and I especially don't care when the player can't even make it on to the pitch for one of our most important run-ins of recent times.

How do you describe Santa Cruz then? A fat Benni has looked ten times the player.

Eddie you are a Great Idiot! if benni was that worldclassplayer he would be playing elsewhere..

Interesting rumour/piece of news i have just heard. Matt Derbyshire has apparently gone on Olympiakos's post season tour of Vietnam?

Don't know if Nicko can confirm this? Seems rather strange??

Also hearing that a possible transfer is being haggled over, a fee of between 3 and 4 million being talked about...

Derbyshire went on loan for the rest of the season - the end of June - and can go where he likes with his new team.

I think there is a fee being discussed and a sale is likely.

Remember, he wanted to go for a regular game and the manager wanted rid.

So that exit is no surprise.

Neither Benni nor Roque are without their flaws, if they were they'd be playing for one of the "top 4" already.

Roque's "achilles heel" is obviously his fitness in terms of avoiding serious injury and Benni's is obviously his general attitude and fitness in terms of keeping in shape.

Both had one exceptional season here and both made no secret of their desire to move to a "bigger club" on the back of those efforts.

On their best form, we would probably struggle to do better than either of them. On their worst they're both a liability. It seems that they can't play effectively together and it's up to Sam to judge the situation and do as he thinks best.

I wouldn't be totally unhappy if either both stayed or both left for big money, but the latter scenario would involve a huge turn round in striking personnel given that Gallagher and Derbyshire look set for the exit as well.

Two examples off the top of my head... Friedel and Tugay. How many seasons did they spend with us as world class players?

Friedel without a doubt.

Tugay - From my point of view he is world class but some would disagree purely because whilst at Rovers he hasn't quite had the engine. No doubt about his ability mind.

I don't for one minute believe Tugay would be a Rover if he was 10 years younger.

You'd could be right on Tugay, the problem is as his brain just got better and better the legs started going a bit more. Doubt we'll see another like him :(

Amazingly, Benni has only started 12 games since Sam arrived and come on as sub 4 times. The lad is back to being one of the most prolific strikers in the League when he is on the pitch if Hughesy is right and he's bagged 9 in that time!!

Pompey 1, Wigan 1, Spurs 1, Sunderland 1, Bolton 1, Newcastle 1, City 1, Stoke 2

Benni McDonald's has been in shocking form for most of this season.

Maybe under Ince he was (but their was a personal problem between the two) - see above the form under Allardyce.

Friedel was world class for us, without a shadow of a doubt. For me, the best keeper I've seen at Ewood. However I think his reputation had always been tarnished while at Liverpool. That probably prevented the top four from going for him maybe. Sam Allardyce might have a similar problem (thought on a slightly different scale!).

Discussion doesn't really matter on this particular issue, but I disagree. Friedel was very highly thought of after 2001/2002, particularly after the World Cup.

Greek press are saying rovers are holding out for 6 million euro for ντερμπισιρ (derbyshire). Olympiakos not willing to pay. Fortunately the fans want him signed so there is pressure on the president to stump up. Good business for rovers if it goes ahead.

If that is the case the I'm not surprised that Olympiakos aren't willing to pay that but it is also good to see Rovers not selling cheaply.

If we can get that figure for Derbs and £20 million for RSC then depending on how much cash we need to balance the books this season there is a decent bit of cash for Sam to play with.

Also on a side note - Bentley Transfer was payable over a few installments, therefore im assuming we will pay Arse over the same breakdown? If so, flog him to them and get them to clear that money we owe them for that.

I seem to remember from last summer that people with 'knowlege' about contracts and finances stated that Arsenal's chunk was paid first before Rovers started recieving their share. Trouble is a lot of nasty memories have occurred in the last twelve months so the mind might be playing tricks.

As lazy as Benni is, he is still a natural goalscorer. It doesnt matter if its from the penalty spot or tap ins, it all counts. Im amazed how people would rather have some unknown striker from the lower divisions, just because he might have some pace. Our midfield has been the problem, no service to the strikers and unfortunately not much contribution from the midfield, in taking the pressure off the strikers with goals. Pedersen use to get into double figures, so did Bentley and this took alot of pressure off the strikers. Any strikers would look out of place, with a midfield like ours behind them.

In Benni and Roque we still have two of the top strikers in the Premier League.

The problems all stem from losing Bentley and not replacing him when Ince through a hissy fit last summer.

Sam largely stopped the midfield from giving oppositions free runs with the ball at our defence at pace but our midfield's ability to retain posession and effectively mount atacks remains crippled in the absence of Bentley.

Selling Bentley and acquiring Andrews and Grella is in the same underwhelmingly futile category as signing Matty Holmes as the sole strengthening for a Champions League campaign.

Incidentally, Lita has been released byReading... how the mighty have fallen.

Thats interesting Phillip. Lita was wanted by many of our fans, because he is young and quick. Just shows, how at his age, being overweight Benni can still put the ball in the back of the net standing still.

Lita would be worth a trial. Then Sam can see if there is something there, or whether he is a complete twonk who'd disrupt the dressing room and fail to deliver. Sounds like the sort of deal he'd do.

Didn't Sam try and revive Micheal Ricketts and Matt Jansen in the past. Could be worth a look for free but some of our fans won't like it.

Would really be disgusted if we offered Lita a trial or even a contract, when we have shipped Matty Derbs out to Greece. Derbs is by far a better player than Lita. We should stay well clear, and shouldnt even consider him if we want to avoid a repeat of this season.

6 million Euros in for Derbs [if Greek press is to be believed] and another England Under 21 International on trial is not a problem as long as other options are brought in as well.

I agree we need to avoid a Robbie Fowler situation developing but looking at a still yound player who has had a good premiership season previoulsy is worth looking at for nothing.

My main concern is not the ability of Lita, its again the fact that we need to start to build a foundation for this club again. Strikers are not really the problem for me, its in the middle of the park thats a worry, with no creative ability to allow the strikers to flourish. Once we sort out 1 or 2 creative midfielders, then Benni will more than likely score again.

Re Iceman: If he turns out to be crap, or a complete tool then his trial will end and he'll be off. No harm done. I wouldn't expect him to be our main striker once RSC goes, but a squad player.

Agree i suppose if its only a trial. Fair enough Billy

I agree totally. £5m+ in the bank for derbs, replaced by a very similar player and age for totally free. Good option for our 4th choice too whilst sticking money in the pot to spend on others
