Totally overused and incorrect statement. Circa ten years ago Tugay played for Rangers.

True, I don't think anyone really realised how good he was. Rangers didn't give him a regular game for God's sake..... Kudos to Souness for realising his ability and getting him down here.

As for Van De Meyde - utterly average at Everton when he has played, hey day is about seven years ago now... However this is the type of player that Allardyce has built a career on. Wouldn't be suprised at all if he turned up at Ewood on a budget contract. I would trust Sam's judgement on it.

I guess the plan is to pick up the likes of Rothen and VDM as cover which is sensible. If we lost Diouf or Pedersen to injury then we really have no one who can pick up the pieces. And you have the bonus of them having an Indian Summer and massively upping their game in their thirties. Happend a lot at Bolton.

Id take Tuncay, and O'neil now that the boro are all but down. Tuncay is just the player we are needing, I think he will go to a top 6 side though.

Owen and Crouch would be good replacements for Santa Cruz, Owen would have to have a pay as you play contract.

If wer'e lucky. If not Allardyce will just throw out contract deals to new players of the same status and caliber, and the circle has started. We have officially turned into Bolton, and I sincerely hope (but don't believe) that the ugly play and shortsighted team building will be made up for with results.

I always wondered why people say things like "if he was 10 years younger he'd be playing for a top club". Tugay was 10 years younger once, I think some people think he's played the whole of his career in his mid-thirties!

Marcus Hahnemann also released by readng , if, we are in the market for a back-up keeper . we could do worse

not a spring chicken anymore , but has got PL experience

Hahnemann has been living off his reputation for the past year and will probably return home.

Another Reading keeper - Ben Hamer, who spent the season helping Brentford to promotion, could be worth a shout if Sam doesn't think much of Bunn and Brown (as seems to be the case). Reading are desperate to keep him but he's out of contract this summer.

As for Lita - if Sam could sort out his problems then he'd certainly be worth a punt.

As I see it, they're saying if Tugay was considerably younger and in the Premiership spotlight (with us), then he wouldn't be around for long.

I've just watched Hannover v Wolfsberg and was watching Dzeko - he is amazing! He scored 3 and only had 4 chances! New Santa Cruz for blackburn, altho not sure if he would leave the soon to be German champions to come to us.

Answer is, no he wouldn't. Not for anything near we would be willing to offer anyway!

He played for Galatasary, they're pretty big...

Sorry bad turn of phrase, what I meant was if he was 10 years younger with the vision and intelligence he had in his latter years he would be a galactico not playing for a mid table team.

He's always had the vision and intelligence he has now. Tugay is a mercurial talent, but he's never ever had the engine to be able to command a regular place in a top 4 Prem team. Along with the 10 years younger thing the other major Tugay folly is the 'his legs have gone' comment that gets thrown about. He never covered a lot of ground, that was one of the reasons Advocaat didn't play him despite his obvious talent.

Didnt Nicko say that he would reveal a midfielder that we have been tracking today? Said something about Sams budget for next year too... exciting times now that we are officially safe :rover:

I think that might be a midnight jobby as it's going to be in the Sunday People tomorrow.

As Nicko is a Glaswegian he might be a little disturbed and confused at folk expecting a midnight jobby from him.

Sunday People:

Were interested in Sean Davis along with Wigan: http://www.people.co.uk/sport/football/tm_...-name_page.html

Were also looking at tying up a deal for Givet, signing Georgios Seitaridis and Tyrone Mears: http://www.people.co.uk/sport/football/tm_...-name_page.html

The Walker trusties apparently want Sam to slash the wage budget by 5 million pounds for the forthcoming season to save us from financial hardship: http://www.people.co.uk/sport/football/tm_...-name_page.html

Sunday Star:

Comic value story in the Sunday Star. Apparently were going to duke it out with Newcastle for the signing of £10 million rated Peter Crouch. Wonder if Newcastle will have £10 million to spend on one player for the Championship this summer let alone us for the Premier League: http://www.dailystar.co.uk/football/view/8...ks-Crouch-over/

Doesn't bode well for the summer. I wonder how many players will need to be let go in order to free up the £5M in wages?

I think Ooijer's wages would be quite high as well...

I was trying to work that bit out...these are estimates.

SIMPSON - £600K

OOIJER - £1.5M

VILLANUEVA - £500K

MOKOENA - £1.3M

DERBYSHIRE - £800K

GALLACHER - £500K

That is £5M plus...but six players down.

GIVET will probably pick up about £1.7M, which makes WARNOCK leaving more likely. He will be on £1.5M or so.

So, like the transfer fee kitty, the big issue is going to revolve around ROQUE [£2M] going.

I wouldn't get too distressed about it, but it's going to be hard work for all concerned and there is little room for error.

How much have we saved by getting rid of Vogel? Also, can't help but wonder whether getting rid of S.Reid makes more sense now...
