nicko Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 How has the price gone from £1.75m to £4m in half a season in which he hasn't played? Is Pana's £1.35m offer true, and was it accepted? That's Marseille for you... He is in contract and I can't imagine they would have sold at the figures mentioned. But it is a good spot.

T4E Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Is it just me, or had anyone else never heard of Ryan Taylor ? Which, for a Premiership player, and the fact he's only made 50 odd appearances for Wigan since July 2005, suggests to me he's not up to that much. Not at all bothered if that doesn't happen. It is strange how anonymous he is. I know of him purely from his free kicks, one particular screamer against Newcastle from wide on the left springs to mind, but I wouldn't know him if I tripped over him. Infact he was on Soccer AM a week or two back and I had no idea who he was until they captioned him.
nicko Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Nicko, any word on a new Tugay? Afraid not...until they invent human cloning.

Suggests to me that we could negotiate the £4m down. Will we be agreeing a price now to be paid later ala Carlos?
nicko Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Suggests to me that we could negotiate the £4m down. Will we be agreeing a price now to be paid later ala Carlos? I believe that is part of it...but not confirmed.
herbergeehh Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 I've now read that Givet is signing on a loan deal with a view to make it permanent, and that we're targeting Ryan Taylor (which I applaud) and an unnamed striker who we will pursue if Man City get their finger out of their a....? Trying to check back, but my head is hurting from last night and I would really love it if someone could sum up the activity the last 24 hours for me. Pretty please?

I think that is it...but Taylor is unlikely to happen.

And the LT has mentioned an alternative right-sider to Taylor, no name given. You had a sniff of that one Alan?
BlueMonday Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Suggests to me that we could negotiate the £4m down. Will we be agreeing a price now to be paid later ala Carlos? I read today that he is not favoured by the current Marseille manager. However his position is looking shakey and if a new manager comes in Givet could be recalled and the deal scuppered if the new manager rates him.
BuckyRover Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Maybe you haven't heard of him due to the fact Wigan (and many other clubs) receive very little media attention. Ryan Taylor is very well respected and a promising player. I know it doesn't mean much but he has been very good on Football Manager for a number of years. I would be happy if we signed him
nicko Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 And the LT has mentioned an alternative right-sider to Taylor, no name given. You had a sniff of that one Alan? Chretien...if they see him. A guy in Spain...watch that space. Finnan...if he was fit. Don't think it will be Zoro. Not the Georgie I believe. Have they caught up with Givet yet?
philipl Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Maybe you haven't heard of him due to the fact Wigan (and many other clubs) receive very little media attention. TRUE Ryan Taylor is very well respected and a promising player. I know it doesn't mean much but he has been very good on Football Manager for a number of years. THAT EXPLAINS A LOT ABOUT YOUR POSTS!

However his position is looking shakey and if a new manager comes in Givet could be recalled and the deal scuppered if the new manager rates him. Givet will be here for the season if the paperwork gets done today...but a permanent deal may depend on the next coach at Marseille. Still, it's the next few months that matter.
T4E Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Obvious question - guy from Spain? Right sider? Position? Club? Vital statistics?
DeadlyDirk Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Damn you Brucie! I'm sorry! Really I am! I guess I just didn't think the price was right. I love to see what this thread has become, brightened up my day anyway, I'm literally cracking up here! Would be nice to see Taylor here though :s
Dave S Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Chretien...if they see him. A guy in Spain...watch that space. Finnan...if he was fit. Don't think it will be Zoro. Not the Georgie I believe. Have they caught up with Givet yet? Bruno Saltor by any chance??
BuckyRover Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 philipl. Does it also explain Everton's transfer and scouting policy? The fact that David Moyes recently paid over £30,000 for the rights to the football manager database. Lower league teams always use the database to find players, they use to to find out when players contracts will be running out and to check players past histories. The fact that I already know all about Saivet, Chretien, Givet, Matias Fernandez and a whole number of players puts my scouting knowledge far and above yours. I knew about Saviola, Aimar, Riquelme and many other players before they had left Argentina. It is not only about the game, you can watch players that you have heard about on Football manager. It is the most powerful scouting tool in the world. It brings togethers hundreds of independent scouts and pools all the information together. I am sure your snobbery comes the fact that the older generations are scared of interactive media. .
hawkiiz Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 great post Bucky! Could we please sign Maximiliano Oliva for left back! 18 year old argentina international (on U-20 level).
Tim Southampton Rover Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Bakoyoko, sensation in Championship Manager in 1997-98. 4 goals in 23 games for Everton in real life. It maybe a tool to search for players but so are books and websites. The fact is, it's ONLY a game. Whatever happens on the game doesn't always represent the truth.
BuckyRover Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 I agree with that. I would also suggest that a Premiership manager should use more than Football Manager to scout players, nevertheless it is a great tool to identify targets. Coupled with the fact that the game had only been around a few years when that happened. It is nearly 20 years old now, and has thousands more scouts and players than ever before, all scouted. The number of scouted players in the game is 6 times the population of Leicester. Somebody said they had seen Saivet and he is strong and pacy but not ready for the Premiership. I could have told you exactly the same, only I have never seen him play. On my most recent game, Paul Ince was sacked as Blackburn manager in 2011 (after finishing 6th in the first season). He went on to manage West Brom (he is still there currently, in the Premiership). Allardyce was touted to take over from Ince but it was Steve McClaren that got the job. He has recently been sacked and Tony Adams has taken over. Blackburn are currently 19th after 14 games (2013/2014)

BuckyRover Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Where were Rovers? They have been in the Premiership the whole time. Roque Santa Cruz has stayed throughout (and scored a LOT of goals). I sold them Shaun Wright Phillips who has been a decent player for them. I managed to buy a 17year old central defender that they had signed who is now breaking into my first team and plays for England U21's. I have won many competitions with Man City, but Blackburn recently knocked me out in the League Cup 4th Round. I told Tony Adams I was unhappy with the tactics he used. He now has a "fairly poor opinion of me" (Whats new?) I will soon start a game with Blackburn. Show Ince how its done.
Eddie Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Somebody said they had seen Saivet and he is strong and pacy but not ready for the Premiership. I could have told you exactly the same, only I have never seen him play. Football Manager should be used by all clubs, they would be stupid not to. I wouldn't buy a player based on football manager alone, but it is a free way of looking at a certain type of player and maybe deciding where your scouts should go and trying to a player that might be worth looking into. It isn't real life and it will be wrong, but it has been correct an awful lot because it relies on people who know the game the world over to help them make a realistic football simulation. It isn't by chance that they know it, it is essentially because the game has a scouting network far larger than any football club or nation. As for Saivet, you may have known that, but did you know that he is black?
BuckyRover Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Yes!! The new one has a 3D match engine!! His skin colour is represented graphically!!!
