Yes LT have caught up with Givet - said should be completed today if medical and paperwork sorted out. To be fair they are not going to write he has signed before he has are they?

Interesting their story on Taylor - seems a shame Wigan won't let him go and interesting who this other right sider is. Defo not Chretien though by the sounds of things.

There's no right back in yet...so Chretien is still on the radar.

I can't believe he has dropped off because the game was postponed.

Unless there is something in reports that another club has bid.

If I was Chretien and heard Givet was over I would be interested in Rovers right now.

I can't see who Givet is taking the place of. On form, Nelsen and Samba are two of the top 10 CBs in the Premiership IMO, and Warnock isn't the worst player in the world.

I think he might play left-back, allowing Warnock to move back into midfield.

I have said before, Sam turns defenders into midfielders (Campo) Givet is strong but his distrbution is excellent and this may be one of Sams ideas, to push him up as a holding midfielder!!

Just a thought!!

Oh, though I have only seen him play twice, in my opinion, he is technically streets ahead of both the Admiral and Samba!!

Incidentally, Nicko, or anyone else, do you know Allardyce's method for scouting and then signing foreign players. He's had quite a bit of success with relative unknowns. Radhi Jaidi, Abdolaye Faye, Florent Laville were some notable success stories. It would seem that finding a centre half is easier than any other position

Is it a case of ringing around the trusted agents and taking risks (after all, he's had plenty of bad 'uns that never saw the light of day).

Or does Allardyce and his staff actually have a working knowledge of the foreign market? I suspect this is unlikely as British managers after obscure players seem to love leaving the risk in the hands of agents and luck. I get the feeling that Allardyce is a "take a punt and hope for the best" guy. At Bolton, he was only too happy to haul in shoals of the transfer market flotsam - a real revolving door policy.

I'm surprised if the Continent is not still shaking with the ripples of collective laughter that began when Elmander moved to Bolton for that ludicrous fee. (I know that wasn't Allardyce but it does show the desperate lack of knowledge on foreign players amongst certain British managers).

Not sure Warnock has the passing game to be a full time midfielder, he gave the away pretty easilly in several games when he was playing there. Besides an on form Warnock is one of the best left backs in the prem as was shown when he recieved an England call-up.

I assume Nicko is talking about the possibility of having a French speaking backline with Givet, Samba and Chretien (All three were born and raised in France). If we had a few French/French speaking players at the club it could attract other French players in the future.

he looks at the stats on championship manager, if they are still playing welll on there at 36 years old and stamina is above 10 out of 20, he snaps them up

OK, i'll bite. Why would Givet make Chretien more interested in Rovers?

These lads take notice of something like this - Givet coming to Rovers puts them 'on the map' a bit in France.

I understand that Anelka played a hand in the Givet move, for instance. I think he recommended him to Sam - either that or recommended Rovers to Givet.

So, they speak and if I was Chretien he would now have someone to ring about Rovers.

If he has the chance of going to Sevilla that might be something different. But if not, Rovers have a chance.

Hmmm. I'd suggest that Football Manager may well be somewhat flawed then.

Yes because one swallow does a summer make!

Back to reality, It is far less flawed than a newspaper report or somebody's opinion. They have only one source.

Football manager has thousands.

I think it is a combination of a pool of knowledge and good contacts.

Jaidi did well in the World Cup and was spotted, Faye was a shock success, Laville was an agent bundling him in a plane.

Sam knows what a centre half needs and is willing to look far afield for them. They don't always work, but that is the market he operates in.

Samba and Nelsen were also down to agents persisting and Rovers taking a chance. There is no exact science in this.

any news on how the behind the closed doors match went on???

this zoro-what position does he play??

Started at 2...thought it was earlier but just had that confirmed.

Try to find out more later.

But I am off to visit an ailing friend later.
