jim mk2 Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 But those in charge must do something. This can't be allowed to go on, some rich bloke picking a club and ruining the competitiveness of the league. The league has not been competitive for some time, as we all know. The only way to make it "competitive" is to have a salary cap and a limit on transfer fees, as Platini has been advocating. Wonder what he makes of City - probably blown a Gallic fuse.

spencey7 Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Anyway, to try and keep it Rovers-related, any progress with the defensive sitter Allardyce wanted...? I think I'm right in saying that a few days ago Nicko had heard a rumour that Samba could be played as a holding midfielder.. Any truth in that Nicko? Did it come from a source within Rovers?
jim mk2 Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 If City do have limitless funds why don't they make a bid for Messi too ?
Balwer Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 I agree with RoverRich, what sort of precedent does this set for a Real bid for Ronaldo? If Kaka is worth 100 million pounds, is Ronaldo now 150 or even 200? And would his wage demands be worthy of 750 thousand per week or even a million? Very dangerous stuff.
nicko Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Bellamy is leaving West Ham asap...walked out...Man City will be in as well as West Ham. Don't you just love the little chap.

Kaka is better than Ronaldo. And anyway, it wouldn't affect the Real bid that much as everyone knows City operate in a very different economy. It's a sad day for football, either way.
T4E Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 If City do have limitless funds why don't they make a bid for Messi too ? That crossed my mind earlier - especially as he has a buyout clause in his contract which would force Barca to let him talk to them. EDIT: Infact, how many clubs will now be offering their best players to City? Certainly if I was Jose Mourinho I'd be on the blower telling them that £100m will secure the services of Zlatan.
jim mk2 Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Says on wires Fulham are prepared to sell Bullard ... good Rovers-type player.
jim mk2 Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 It's a sad day for football, either way. Lighten up ! I'm looking forward to seeking Kaka playing here. And remember, we've got Keith Andrews .........

tony gale's mic Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Lighten up ! I'm looking forward to seeking Kaka playing here. And remember, we've got Keith Andrews ......... It's yet another nail in the coffin for us. Since Jack died, we've been a great model of how to run a football club (Ince notwithstanding), despite what some say have attracted good crowds when compared to our population and have more than held our own. City have been the opposite, terribly run with delusional fans. Just a few years ago we were 4 points off a Champions League spot. City's rise firstly means there's another club who will always finish ahead of us, thus reducing our little "mini-league" yet further, and also the more money thats swilling around the game thats at other clubs is going to benefit those clubs lucky enough to be hit with the Sheikh's transfer cash. It's yet another, fairly firm nail in the coffin that will eventually see us relegated in the next five years, easily, even if we stay up this season. That's more than enough time for another couple of sides to be taken over (even if not to this extent), for us to fall further and further behind in the financial stakes...and even if we stay up with the top 5 decided every year the prospects of getting into Europe will be very slim.
nicko Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 why are west ham trying to sign their own player? Good spot. Tottenham, of course. All Cockneys anyway...
PAFELL Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 No, it doesn't work like that...but I do know that the board is a wee bit panicky on this one. Let's be fair, apart from Sparky, who would pay anything like the money? Which is probable city's tactics to get RSC. Go for somebody ' big and pay big money' which is a shot across the bows to clubs like Rovers and West Ham - don't sell us your players and make money or we go elsewhere! - transfer bullying in my view.
Majiball Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Don't forget Villa, yet another billionaire backed team, just taking a different approach. Top six soon, Europe dominated by them and we'll all be fighting for 7th and hoping they win the FA Cup and league cup to give us a chance.
braddock Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 I agree with RoverRich, what sort of precedent does this set for a Real bid for Ronaldo? If Kaka is worth 100 million pounds, is Ronaldo now 150 or even 200? And would his wage demands be worthy of 750 thousand per week or even a million? Very dangerous stuff. every player is worth as much as the club will sell him for, the length of his contract left, the happiness of the player, the financial security of the club selling and a whole load of factors. if city were to bid for ronaldo they would have to pay more (possibly more than £100mil) but everyone realises no one else can pay that money like city. players can go up in value depending on who is bidding for them. united will have a figure which they will sell him for to clubs except for city, and if they get that offer they will sell him, regardless of what has happened here. if 5 european clubs got billionaire owners willing to spend that money then it would affect the market. as of yet it is only affecting city's transfer dealings
cruz Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 City deny Kaka deal and Bellamy has not asked to leave West Ham....according to City and a very popular and disreputable television media source That's rendered the 11 o'clocker semi-reduntant
Blue n White Rover Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Bellamy is leaving West Ham asap...walked out...Man City will be in as well as West Ham. Don't you just love the little chap. What an ungrateful little swine. West Ham should let him rot in the reserves. There is no buy-out clause this time Craig!
begresko Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 What an ungrateful little swine. West Ham should let him rot in the reserves. There is no buy-out clause this time Craig! I hope he leaves! i put big money on this 3 weeks ago. With very decent odds. Please bellers carry on being the ungrateful footballer we all know you as

Man City think they have a 'yes' from Kaka. I suspect they have. Bellamy has LEFT West Ham...refused to train, emptied his locker and won't play for them again...

jim mk2 Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 It's yet another, fairly firm nail in the coffin that will eventually see us relegated in the next five years, easily, even if we stay up this season. Eh ? If we do somehow avoid relegation this season I'm confident Allardyce can take Rovers forward in the next 5 years or more. He's tried his luck at a "big club", got kicked out and probably sees Rovers as his last top appointment and the chance to restore his reputation in the game. The game and the world is always changing and City's cash guarantees them nothing. Blimey, I thought I was gloomy.......
modes98 Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 I still can't believe Kaka would actually want to sign for Man City. I thought he may be one player who would put playing for a successful club, one of the best in Europe You have to remember that AC Milan aren't the force they used to be. They aren't in the CL and aren't up for winning their league.
