T4E Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Pretty quick I think, but what struck me in the game I mentioned above was how tricky he was. His third goal was exceptional, ran from halfway inside the opponents half, past 3 or 4 defenders and an excellent finish. It's the only game I've seen him play but his name is always popping up on the videprinter!

alexanders Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 STRIKER - Metz's Senegalese striker Babacar Gueye is coming in this weekend. Pulled out of his side's game at weekend, watched by Rovers week before. Price agreed. Usual 'test' arranged but looks like a deal. Tall chap who might have a chance but looks like a squad/sub man at first. 1.86m according to wiki. Not the best stats either 108 apps and 26 Goals.
Bobby G Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Gueye is a good player. Quite quick as well. Could be a coup. Can play on the wing pretty well, and thats where we might be tempted to play him rather than up front!

Tall chap who might have a chance but looks like a squad/sub man at first. RIGHT BACK - Calve has been asked over but there are other right backs being watched this weekend. Calve plays for Nancy and was NOT even in the squad for the game last week when Chretien was due to be watched. Calve's agent heard about this and pushed his player to come over and have a look - while Rovers take a look at him. MAN CITY - Palacios confirmed by Wigan, Bellamy probably on despite Tottenham interest, Roque seems to be on the list but City playing cool. You weren't wrong about us doing a lot of business in France.

alexanders Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Gueye is a very very good player. Quite quick as well. Could be a coup. Can play on the wing pretty well, and thats where we might be tempted to play him rather than up front! Seen him in action?

Just so I can give my F5 key a rest ... is that the 11 o'clocker?
Bobby G Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Yep...But not enough to be confident enough to label him a definite success. He is a prospect though, and I am sure Metz are letting him leave on the cheap cause they are in Ligue 2 now.

Tall chap who might have a chance but looks like a squad/sub man at first. Hmm. Looks like Derbyshire's days are numbered. Oh for a tentpole signing. A creative player. The Bentley/Friedel money hasn't been touched - Aim high Sam. (And by "high" I don't mean "tall".) I am sure Metz are letting him leave on the cheap cause they are in Ligue 2 now. The prospect of this boy at Ewood doesn't exactly have me trembling with anticipation. A second tier French league player with a fairly poor goalscoring record. Are we just going to retire the right wing position altogether?
nicko Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Just so I can give my F5 key a rest ... is that the 11 o'clocker? Yes it was...want to see Match of the Day.
Harrier7 Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 He scored a hattrick in a Sky game earlier this season, I forget who they played but he was sensational. I thought he was younger than that, but he looks a decent prospect nontheless. EDIT. Just Soccerbase'd it, it was a 5-4 win against Bristol Rovers. Great game. He's a bloody good finisher, dead cool, and his mate McLean ain't bad too!
RoverRich Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Gueye is a good player. Quite quick as well. Could be a coup. Can play on the wing pretty well, and thats where we might be tempted to play him rather than up front! Like the way you changed it from very very good player to just good player. Realised he is not that great after all. If you have seen him can you tell us what he is like apart from being tall?
Pugg Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Gueye is a pretty decent player. Is he decent on the wing as well as up front, or is he just ok on the wing? Would be interesting to know where Sam would plan to play him.
Hughesy Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Nicko have you heard anything on that lad at Peterborough I mentioned a page back?? Also when you say a squad player - does that mean 3rd choice kind of player then - whats the deal with Derbyshire?
Bennisfromheaven Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 What about the 'if Roque leaves' striker, were you going to name him tonight or keeping it under your hat?
unleaded Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 This guy is meant to be the new Adeaboyer....The metz fans rate him and think he is similar to the Arsenal man and Just needs to put some Muscle Mass on his body............ He does look like an out ` n ` out striker. Free kick.......excelllent................. http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/searc...franc-met_sport Little Video for you ,.............. http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/searc...vido-babs_sport
RoverRich Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Well from those videos he looks left footed so even if he can play out wide I don't think he is a potential right winger for us. And for Bennisfromheaven, that was Janko.
beerwins Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Well rovers have never been about signing stars, but we have always made stars, have faith in sam he has plenty of time out of the game to spot up and coming players, i dont wanna see rovers pay big money to sign a player at the top of his game only to arrive at ewood and start a slump, rovers are very good at getting the best out of players and selling them on when their best has passed. In sam we trust.
Lurid Coat Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Gueye is a good player. Quite quick as well. Could be a coup. Can play on the wing pretty well, and thats where we might be tempted to play him rather than up front! Football Manager legend too, almost singlehandedly kept my Crystal Palace team in the Premier League on FM07. So I'm sure he'll be a smash hit at Ewood

RoverRich Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 As for Nicko's striker could it be another one of Big Sam's african gems? He does like his african players. Just realised I was right!
Lathund Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 1.86m according to wiki. Not the best stats either 108 apps and 26 Goals. unleaded mentioned Adebayor, another African striker originally from Metz. Two years ago when he was the same age as Gueye is now (22), his scoring record for Monaco was 18 goals in 79 games, which is quite similar to Gueye. He's done pretty well since. Now I'm not saying that he'll be that good, as I've never seen him play, but I wouldn't care too much about his scoring record at this stage.
