Robinson

Emerton--Ooijer--Nelsen--Warnock

Samba

Dunn--Andrews--Grella--Pedersen

Any of the three

Could be a handy formation away from home.

Like the way we have talked about putting Samba in midfield in order to fit Givet in to the team and then you go and leave him out. Givet could well establish himself as one of our main defenders if he gets his chances and adapts well and I hope he does because he is a quality player.

with the way McCarthy and Roberts are playing together i doubt Sam will put one of them on the bench.

Givet should get played i think. Sam will want to see what he's about so id say maybe Warnock back into midfield and Givet put in his more natural left sided position. Probably Tugay making way after his awful performance against Newcastle.

We will have to see.

If we do get this new striker in we'll have 5 first team strikers and unfortunatly Derbs will be number 5 on that list. Think we could see him leave in the summer.

I don't know how many times this needs to be said but Givet's 'natural position' is not left-back. He is a centre back who can, if needed, play at full-back.

givet right back?

he made an impression playing there for monaco in the champions league

'Givet has played all across the back four during his career and figured mainly at right back during that Champions League run, when he is likely to have attracted the attention of Rovers boss Sam Allardyce - then making regular trips to Monaco in an ultimately unsuccessful bid to take striker Dado Prso to Bolton.'

you guys may have mentioned this already, apologies if so

I'm pretty sure the LT have got this wrong as well. Hugo Ibarra was Monaco's right-back at the time. I remember him playing against Chelsea in the semi-final and he definitely played in the final.

I hear Gueye's agent - an ex-player called Papa Malik Diop - has flown in...my French guy believes Gueye is with him but nor sure...however I presume the deal is just being ironed out.

He was pulled out of the Metz game on Friday because he was moving.

Question for Nicko:

Through the whole Kaka saga you've pretty much kept your personal opinions on the transfer to yourself... What are your thoughts, not such much on the ridiculous size of the transfer fee (whatever it actually is) or the ludicrous wages, but about what it means for the future of football as a whole?

Question for Nicko:

The whole thing is obscene but sometimes football transfers change the face of the game - and this is one. We are all rightly amazed and slightly ashamed in the current climate.

But not if you are a Man City supporter.

When Rangers bought every good Englishman going under Souey it took them to new levels. When Rovers wanted to buy success they signed anyone available and then became selective and brought in the Shearers of this world. When Chelsea came into Roman's money they bought madly and wisely almost simultaneously.

So while we can all be horrified by the Kaka deal, the fee and the wages, the point is that fans of all of the three clubs mentioned above were joyously happy when the money was spent and the players brought trophies.

Man City fans seemed a but subdued about the whole thing yesterday - but if Kaka comes and does the biz they will be loving it.

And, after all, that is what matters...not the philosphising from outside.

If somebody bought Partick Thistle and did the same crazy spending I would be absolutely delighted. Balls to the consequences.

how is bentley thought of in the rovers boardroom ? , i have read a few posts on here suggesting we take him back , personally i think he's a cracking player, and if we are in the market for a right sided midfielder , then why not ? some rovers fans hold a grudge against him because he felt he could better himself elsewhere, just wondered if the board felt the same ?

I really dont think you/we (its complicated :D) need or should want Bentley back. He obviously thinks he's better than Rovers, and everyone's moved on.

Nicko,

Gotta love the jags !!

Whats the story with Appiah I heard he got on really well with spurs in a recent dummy game. Then spurs bid for palacios the next day. Is he signing for spurs?

Will we only let Rsc go to citeh in exchange for money and Sturridge?

If bellamy signs for them does that scratch RSC off there list. It really should do, with the amount of strikers they would have on there books.

The Senegal lad sounds like a good project for a low price.

Would still like a right midfielder. Anything on the italian lad from Fiorentina??

Great weekend

Not so hopeless in their prime...

There's a kid from Le Havre coming to the academy...no idea of the name.

If anyone gets it first I will start the applause.

Gueïda Fofana sounds promising from what i've read.

From Wikipedia

Fofana has spent his whole career in the youth system of French club Le Havre AC.

He is ranked at number 37 in the Top 100 youngsters list according to Spanish Magazine, Don Balon, and is also touted as a successer to legendary French international, and current Inter Milan midfielder Patrick Viera.

When Rovers wanted to buy success they signed anyone available and then became selective and brought in the Shearers of this world.

Nicko - I would have thought you , more than anyone, would have realised that Rovers didn't buy the Premiership. The team that won the Premiership cost less than most of our rivals. Everyone remembers Shearer and Sutton, as expensive buys - nobody seems to give Dalglish and Harford credit for signings like Hendry, Berg and Le Saux. Or the important parts that an ex-youth team player (Wilcox) and ex-right back (Atkins) played in our success.

Another important factor - Jack always wanted Rovers to be self-sufficient - I can't see how City - even if they won every competition they entered could ever recoup Kaka size fees and salary.

Another major difference, I feel, Dalglish and Harford bought players to work to an overall master plan - the Kaka transfer to me doesn't seem part of an overall plan aimed at a set team pattern. No matter what Hughes says - I think he has little to do with this one.
