I would like us to sign Jenas.

I never really rated him but I remember him playing in second half against Croatia in Zagreb and he was really good.

Also the fact that Capello picks him, makes me think there is something about him. Obviously it would depend on his attitude but if Sam thought he could get the best out of him I would be in support.

Nicko, with the money we could get for Roque, would Sam's A list include several players and not just a replacement striker?

£15 million would ideally mean the best right back on the list rather than a trialist, a genuine midfield sitter, perhaps a right winger - but above all a striker.

You have to know the cost of a striker replacement and work on the rest afterwards.

I think that is being done.

IF it's Man City for Given it sounds like they are putting their dough into domestic deals...which means Roque is still on the hit list too.

Strange behaviour by Man City. Said they would match the Spurs bid and then didn't.

The boy genuinely did not want to go to London for personal reasons that I don't want to go into, but in the end the money was good.

Great signing. Real player.

*Rovers-related because it is two relegation rivals.

Wasn't Palacios originally trialled by Arsenal, then Wenger tipped Bruce that he had some potential? Bruce was then at Birmingham, and was able to take him to Wigan because McGleish hadn't had time to asses him because his brother had been kidnapped and they had to make a decision on whether to keep permanent.

In one.

Lets hope so. To be honest, i'd be pleased to see Given go to City. Let's face it, they won't go down with the quality in their squad but if Given does go there, it does weaken Newcastle significantly and they already have a very weak squad at present.

Any further update on the Roque situation? Do you know if City are just playing games or whether they genuinely still want Roque? Cheers

There is a slight pattern emerging here...Bridge [twice the price they planned to pay], Bellamy [twice the price they first bid] and now probably Given [twice the price they wanted to pay].

Don't assume that means Roque is twice the price, but they are making progress with Sparky's 'domestic' targets.

As for marquee deals and humanitarian projects, we will have to leave that to Garry Cook.

 I love Gary Cook, he's a bit like former President Bush and the now infamous Iraqi information minister - an absolute comic genius. If he does get sacked from City for whatever reason, he clearly has a future in stand up

Didn't we have him on trial either under Souness or very early Hughes?

if we did he must have been young as he is only 27 now.... i say get rid of RSC as he has done nothing this year and he wants to leave anyway... we could get 3 or 4 players with the money... i also think benni and roberts can do a job for the rest of the season and derb's can get some goals....

surely we could still afford a decent right back if we don't sell Roque or am I wrong when I recall BFS having about £10m to spend this window?

Yes, you should, but right now you are looking at loan-with-a-view-to-buy players in that department.

That is probably because the club won't want to commit too much on someone - and then have problems with the fee and his wages if you go down.

Getting a wad for Roque makes things more comfortable financially.

But the big call - and the most expensive signing - will be a striker.

If you sell at £15 million and buy at around £5-6 million you should have enough for other areas of the team.

And, bear in mind, that even loan players have wages - and possible loan fees to clubs - that have already bitten into the budget.

Can I remind everyone that may not have seen the request that was posted (AGAIN) this morning:-

Right, here's the final warning for those who appear to be a bit hard of thinking!!!

This thread is Nicko's thread. It's a thread to talk about rumors and stories that Nicko posts on here (are you keeping up so far.....good!!)

It's also a place to ask him Rovers based questions (not questions about other teams.... are you still with me.... great!!!)

Thats the end of it. guess where the debate about Paul Ince goes....... yep, you got it in one.... the PAUL INCE thread!!!!

Hope that's not too tricky for you all.

Next person who takes this off topic will be banned until the end of the transfer window so they can't take it off topic again. Simple as that.

From Setanta website:

The agent of Blackburn Rovers target Marc Janko has exclusively told setanta.com that the hugely-prolific Red Bull Salzburg star will not be moving to The Premier League in January.

Janko has caught the attention of a number of clubs across the continent after scoring a remarkable 30 goals in 20 games in the Austrian top flight this season, as well as claiming five assists.

Rovers are understood to be closely monitoring his situation and have shown ‘very serious’ interest in Janko as a possible replacement for Roque Santa Cruz should the Paraguayan join Mark Hughes at Manchester City.

But Sam Allardyce claimed on Monday that Santa Cruz will be staying at Ewood Park and it appears as though Salzburg are not willing to part with their most valuable asset until the summer.

Janko’s agent, Georg Stanggassinger, has confirmed the widespread interest in his client but has ruled out a January move for the 25-year-old as Salzburg look to consolidate first place and a fifth league title.

"The normal situation is that Marc stays until the summer, then everything is possible,” Stanggassinger told setanta.com.

“We have clubs that are interested but it is not positive to speak about names."

German league leaders Hoffenheim have also been linked with an interest in Janko after an injury to top scorer Vedad Ibisevic and Italian side Palermo are also believed to be keen admirers of the former Admira Wacker star.

Janko currently leads the rankings for the European Golden Shoe trophy with his 30 goals in the Austrian league earning him 45 points in the system devised to award the continent’s highest scorer at the conclusion of the season.

Okay - so he comes in the summer. At least we're working on proper targets again. We can hold onto RSC who has done little anyway this season but it keeps City just that bit more in the mire.

If we do and we fancy this monster we appear to be lining up will Hughes still be there to fund him by buying Roque?

Alternatively I suspect we could find 6-8 million anyway if he's worth that and unleash a monsterous front line next year.
