DeadlyDirk Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Any update nicko on any players leaving Ewood, there was talk in recent days about one of the keepers moving on, what about the likes of Mokoena, Vogel and other fringe players, any enquiries at all? Is BFS willing to let them go or does he want to keep the squad together as much as possible for now?

trs Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 On Sturridge. Man City can afford NOT to sell because they have the money. The player is happy there just now and willing to see how things pan out in the summer. I don't think that swap can happen...but you could work on getting him later. You say you don't think that can happen "now" Nicko....... Is that because of what the lad himself told you at the weekend or from the clubs point of view? I'm feeling confident as this week goes on that RSC will be on his way shortly and for me personally I would love to see Sturridge head this way.
Dunton Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Nicko why is there nothing in the papers about gerrard's visit to see her majesty on friday. I thought journo's would have been all over this with it being sandwiched by 2 visits by everton

I thought journo's would have been all over this with it being sandwiched by 2 visits by everton That is really only a story on the day of the hearing, which is Friday [i think]. Sturridge wants to see how the season works out at Man City. To be fair, the move to Rovers is something he knows nothing about. That one never got past Man City's negotiators...or should that be 'project managers.' I think Rovers should drop the idea for now...or tap the kid and find out for themselves. City obviously did it with Roque.
QOTSA Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 The Janko story is old quotes with a sprinkle of the new info posted on here this morning. That one could still happen to Rovers at the right price. Janko's agent was talking yesterday. He doubts very much if a deal will happen this month.

Bazrakats Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Nicko are there any other interested parties in Santa Cruz or is Man City the only one?
nicko Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Nicko are there any other interested parties in Santa Cruz or is Man City the only one? Man City alone, which is a problem obviously. Any news on a right winger? No, but I did note that Pennant was going to Portsmouth on loan and Rovers did not seem to react on that one...he was a target under Ince. Narrow escape.
bonerdude Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 nicko any news on how the trailsts are doing....any closer to signing or still being put through paces????
nicko Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 nicko any news on how the trailsts are doing....any closer to signing or still being put through paces???? I believe today was a day off. Ressies playing tonight - seniors having a quiet one. Hear Zoro has gone and is a complicated one. Two games in two years? Hmmm. Think Calve has done ok, but he goes back to Nancy at the weekend - and they will probably decide on that one later. Gueye has not pulled up any trees, so that may not be the done deal Metz imagined. So much hinges on Roque...hate to be repetitive but it's true. Plan A - Roque stays - and it's three or four loans and hopefuls. Plan B - Roque goes - and it's a bit more quality...but no guarantee they will be landed in time or at the right prices. Still, that's what managers and chairmen get paid for.

DeadlyDirk Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I say that we have to be getting close to make your mind up time on Roque, selling him a few days before the end of the window with no replacement could condemn us to relegation if McCarthy or Roberts suffered a dip in form/injury. We should set a deadline like they did with Barry and if no suitable offer is in by that deadline then we should move on and not sell him at any price. If City want him then they need to payup fast so we can get on with looking at other targets and bringing quality players in. Personally if Roque stays and the only bit of business we do is Givet and the two youngsters that came then I'll be happy. nicko, I asked earlier about others leaving, any news at all? Think you missed it unless you purposely ignored mine and replied to the other questions today! philipl Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Why would we move anybody out at this stage in the season? I would have thought the thanks but no thanks boys- Nolan and Peter- got moved right at the start of the window and we need every other player we have available for what is still a very tough relegation battle. No good having got a few hundred K for the Axe when for all we know we might have another massive midfield injury crisis and we need someone to sit in front of the back four and kick people at places like Stoke.
nicko Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 nicko, I asked earlier about others leaving, any news at all? Oklahoma Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Hear Zoro has gone and is a complicated one. Two games in two years? Hmmm. Where did you take that from?
chocky Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Nicko, do you reckon City will use this Guy as part of a money plus player offer for Roque...Filipe Caicedo
nicko Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Where did you take that from? The dreaded Wikipedia, says he has had two starts for Benfica since he joined them...is it more? Nicko, do you reckon City will use this Guy as part of a money plus player offer for Roque...Filipe Caicedo They could try, but they won't succeed. I see some of his handlers have told Sky that Fulham want him but he could be in another swap. The handlers include the Kia-Zahavi double act. Enough said.
Billy Castell Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Best to avoid those two characters! Shame that we are probably not going to get a right winger, but I'm glad Pennant is signed up. He'd have not bothered much on the pitch.

I wouldn't rule out a right winger signing...if the right one comes along. An awful lot can happen in the next 12 days or so.
nicko Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Will there be an 11 o'clocker tonight Nicko? There isn't much to report...and I might have an open-top horse and cart to drive later.
Hi Mack Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 There isn't much to report...and I might have an open-top horse and cart to drive later. So far we havent adressed any of the areas we need to...... Its being glaringly obvious we are lacking a RW and a RB, Maybe a CM but looking forward to a Grella-Dunn partnership could be quality!
DeadlyDirk Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 It seems to me though that most people are of the opinion that Emerton should play somewhere and are also thinking that Dunn-Grella could be a good partnership, that only leaves the right back and right midfield slot for Brett. If that does indeed mean him playing right midfield then yes perhaps it isn't his best position but he works hard and does a decent job there, we could do a lot worse. We have by the sounds of things been actively looking for a right back, we have been linked with 3 or 4 at least this window with a few going on trial so all in all things are not shaping up to badly. We have to remember its quality we want, not quantity, we have Ooijer, Simpson, Zurab among others who can play there who I agree are not the best but there is no point getting players in for the sake of it if they are not any better. By the sounds of things this Zoro among others are nothing special so there is no point wasting money on them. The right midfield slot is an even trickier position, the best available to us right now would have been Jermaine Pennant which tells it's own story, we'll need to pay, 7, 8 million to get someone better than what we already have.
roversinmyblood Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I wouldn't rule out a right winger signing...if the right one comes along. An awful lot can happen in the next 12 days or so. Any chance of us going in for Joaquin of Valencia - he played very well when he came on as sub in the Spanish cup?
