Ninjathunder Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Eidur Gudjohnsen.... 31 might fancy a last crack at the prem... would still be good and he can score goals.... for 2 million pounds seems a good option... http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport...icle2157466.ece I don't think so. I'm with Nicko on this one. He's been sitting on the bench there far too long without showing any motivation to do anything about it. Have you been to Barcalona, seen the city, seen the size, stature of the club, the stadium etc.? He won't want to come.

roversmad95 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 nicko, any new on the story in the sun saying Manchester City and England defender Micah Richards for a knockdown £5million.... he could fit in at right back and could be good in the deal for RSC.. hope you have cheered up today...
gazsimm Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I don't think so. I'm with Nicko on this one. Have you been to Barcalona, seen the city, seen the size, stature of the club, the stadium etc.? He won't want to come. have you seen barcelona's forward line, any decent forward will struggle to get a game with that forward line. He has looked good in the cup matches he has played recently and would be a huge sucess if Rovers could sign him. Only stumbling block might be his wages.
philipl Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Let's be realistic here. The issue is wages not transfer fee. Eidur was on £110K a week BEFORE the £ plunged, Micah I think is on £70K a week although I stand to be corrected. End of speculation on both those players if I haven't got their wages wrong.
nicko Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Unless Eidur Gudjohnsen has been overcome by a dose of humility overnight and the desire to cut his wages by THREE or FOUR times, plus trade the Champions League for a survival fight I would not waste time talking about him...I can't believe Rovers have. Micah Richards was going to be a smashing player but is another caught up in the current madness of paying players fortunes before they have actually done anything. Let's keep it real. Just been reading some of this Man City madness this morning - fantasy targets and the like - and realising that the game has gone to new depths of stupidity in some quarters. There is a real problem for Rovers here...trying to get a proper deal for Roque and finding a replacement. Is it any wonder that move has taken so long. City, for all of their likeable fans, have gone round the bend. The Given bid is £6 million, by the way.
PAFELL Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Sorry, there is as much chance of that big-time Charlie looking down his nose long enough to join Rovers as there is of me accepting that travesty of an outcome tonight. He is a money-minded lasy big **** who won't be coming...so focus on targets you can land. As gutted as I have been since the Hun beat the Jags in the Scottish Cup semi of 1979. And that is saying something. Nicko, in my view the wrong team went through tonight. Spuds outplayed in 3 halves of the whole tie. There are times when friendly, as it should be, rivalry should be put aside. A few premiership sides this season have been embarrassed by Burnley in the competition. Now that the cup is out of the way, Burnley can concentrate on gaining promotion - a hard enough quest in itself. Spuds will lose the final anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does that mean Rovers have actually had preliminary talks for Gudjohnson?
thenodrog Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 gudjohnsen will be a great signing for Rovers and if he fancys coming back to the prem, we have got every chance of signing him with sam in charge. Nicko you know gudjohnsen is a class player and could still do a job in the prem, unlike your burnley so called big stars!! Can he manage to run now? He didn't look like he could last time I saw him. He is not mobile enough for the pace of the Prem imo. Is it any wonder that move has taken so long. City, for all of their likeable fans, have gone round the bend. Surely thats an endangered species nowadays?
nicko Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Does that mean Rovers have actually had preliminary talks for Gudjohnson? Sam is a smart enough man to know the score with Eidur - and know his wages. Surely thats an endangered species nowadays? Man City fans are a good bunch. They know how to laugh at themselves in the main and are all sceptical about some of the nonsense going on in their name right now. For many years they have been the best part of the club.
joey_big_nose Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I have to go along with the assessment that in terms of the squad now we look reasonably sorted, mainly due to the reorginisation of the side. Three strikers who Sam seems able to do something with in Cruz, McCarthy and Roberts, a solid looking defence in the new tactical shape, a revitalised Pedersen, Andrews who is getting up to speed, Grella and Dunn available, Givet who has come in and can provide cover for Warnock (who therefore adds a new central midfield option). If we sign a right back that adds solidarity, and if we get in a right winger with some real attacking quality then we have a very flexible and deep squad. Around 20 first team players, many of whom can play two or more positions competantly. Only way we will be in real trouble is if Dunn and Grella relapse again which admittedly is a very high likelihood. As Andrews, Emerton and Warnock can all come in and do Dunn's job that is not such an issue (although hardly ideal as none of them are as creative as David), but if Grella breaks down again we do have a problem. So if there is money after the right back and right winger maybe another "sitter" is the other main target. I doubt we have the money to sign three players of sufficient quality though. If Bentley is entertaining the thought of coming back (which is doubtful, but then he is massively out of favour at a club which could be relegated.....) the he woulf be ideal. Not sure how we would afford him though.
Oklahoma Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 The dreaded Wikipedia, says he has had two starts for Benfica since he joined them...is it more? Nicko, I already wrote about it here. i thought you trusted me more than wikipedia. Zoro's stats in Benfica: 6 games last season for a total of 337 minutes 2 games for CAN for a total of 180 minutes This season, he has played in the world cup qualification and in the reserve team, as far as I know.
roversmad95 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 nicko, any news on lita? for 500k he could be a good buy as he is young and can score goals... not really in the same class as RSC but young fast and cheap ....

Cheers, my apologies, the low figure stuck in my mind. Either way that is not the ideal prep for playing in the Premier League. Especially with Givet - who has also been a spectator - also in the club. In his case his previous CV was exceptional. nicko, any news on lita? for 500k he could be a good buy as he is young and can score goals... not really in the same class as RSC but young fast and cheap .... Reading will sell at £1.2 million and he has already turned down Sheff U and QPR. I liked him but he does seem to have an attitude. Not the worst signing.
roversmad95 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 it says in the sun city are after drogba now.. so i guess if they get him they wont want santa cruz could be good new for rovers... unless RSC really wants to leave....
Oklahoma Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I agree with you, Nicko. But like Rovers did with Samba, maybe they can do the same for Zoro.
thenodrog Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Reading will sell at £1.2 million and he has already turned down Sheff U and QPR. I liked him but he does seem to have an attitude. Not the worst signing. His promise was great, his pace is undeniable, his finishing is suspect. We can do nothing about his pace even if we wanted to but finishing can be improved. Strikers tend to improve with experience and maturity as they develop self belief and a cooler old head. Must be the usual chip on shoulder, attitude problem at work cos Coppell won't tolerate a bad apple and he must see no way forward for him.... a Jeffers / Pennant type possibly? A clean start under Allardyce might work and a million is easily within our budget.
alexanders Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Nicko - I see that Gary Cook is out in the media slagging us off and saying that we won't sell RSC unless a replacement is ready. Have they upped their bids and are we ready to sell RSC?

Bobby G Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 He has made it sound like we havent rejected their bid and their generous offer is on the table for us to bite on!
nicko Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 cash? no install payments? I think it was straight £15 million cash...the other half of the equation is finding a replacement.
Bobby G Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 So wait a minute. Man City have made a new bid? When was this nicko??? Is this the first it has been mentioned?
