i know the release clause for rocky is not active untill the summer, but have he got a sell-on on him?

and will a sell-on on Janko get him to ewood if rovers and red bull can not reach a deal between 6 and 9m?

I wonder if Rovers are only willing to go to £6m because that is what they feel the guy is worth, or because the remainder of the fee from City is earmarked for another player/players? Say from £9m to £12m depending on the sale price for Cruz. I wonder how much it would cost to bring DB back to the club......

Villa making a big play for Heskey. You have to admire Martin O'Neill is he pulls that one off. I think he has to - because they have run out of alternatives.

The more I think of it the more Heskey sounds like a smashing signing for Villa. Can't help admiring MO'N - and I've been trying for years.

If the Roque deal goes through, can we expect to find out about a new raft of targets for our other problem positions, or will it just make the current targets more likely?

RSC had a very decent season last year but he still never controlled a game and took it by the scruff of the neck. The likes of Henry, Drogba, RVN, Berbatov, Anelka, Rooney et al have and can. He was heavily supplied by super crosses and set up play by David Bentley. I must admit many of his goals where on a plate (but fair enough he had to put them in).

When you add the transfer fee and 5 years wages (if offered that long) he turns into a player that will cost Man City at the minimum, £41m- I just cannot justify that and he is no way worth that. I personally thought Bellamy was a far superior player in pretty much every department.

Plenty more fish in the sea and from what I have seen of Janko thus far, it looks like we could unearth another gem whose value will only go up!

Agreed on all scores VA. Well summed up.

I hope we can get the Janko deal done and get the cash in for Roque. We need strengthening in other areas, I'd very much like to see Sam spend some cash on a good RW.

Wouldn't it be great if an English attacking trio (Heskey, Agbonlahor and Young) disrupt the big four and fire Villa in to the Champions' League? Then there's Barry, Milner, Reo Coker, Sidwell, Davies, Young and Shorey supporting. Quite impressive.

Edit: Sorry Neil, I didn't realise it was your post I was quoting, you probably won't think it's as great as I do.

Why on earth would we want to see Villa make the champions league? I think Heskey is an OK signing, but not fantastic. I don't think many would be jumping from the rooftops if he were driving to Brockhall right now. He'll do a job as Villa's biggish man supported by pace, but I don't think he'll make the difference for them this year.

I don't want to see any club other than Rovers break into the top 4, regardless of how many English players they have or how they put their side together (which in Villa's case has been by spending a lot).

I think £6 million is THE figure as far as Rovers are concerned. It's probably a compromise already.

Classic transfer window haggling all over the place.

Do you think we will get a decision on this soon ? does Sam have a plan B if salzburg reject the offer or will we just keep santa cruz if this deal falls through ?

I hope it happens soon, RSC played well last season but if he is told that he has to stay I’m not convinced he will put the effort in.

I think there HAS to be a quick decision.

There is a Plan B but that player would cost big money too.

And, no, I'm not naming him yet...

Would that be for 11? :rover:

Also, can we assume that Rovers have agreed a figure with Man City as it would be pretty shabby for the club to bid for a player and then back track because we cant agree a fee with Man City!

Janko at 6M WOW. Given his track record I'm concerned, this is the only season he has ever been prolific and he's 25.

Janko's career

He looks great in the video's but he's hardly against the best opposition in that league. 2 goals at international level one against france and one against Serbia, both teams have strong centre back pairings at least.

He could be a late bloomer who knows, but its just as likely he's a one season wonder.

I'd rather keep RSC and take less money in the summer.

He has scored 3 goals in 7 games at international level and his club record is far better that RSC who NEVER scored more than FIVE league goals before he came to Rovers! Ofcourse the player is a risk but then again every player is a risk.

3 goals in 7 games.

2002–2005 Admira Wacker 13 (2)

2005-Red Bull Salzburg 58 (45)

National team 2006– Austria 7 (3)

No point in naming the alternative while Janko business is alive...it would only make it more confusing.

I think Rovers now know Man City will pay the right amount.

Cook's comments the other day confirmed that.

Should know more on this as it unfolds.

Of course, there is this bizarre Drogba tale...if he comes then Sparky is history...because Sparky wants Roque.

Sparky won the battle over Bellamy, he will want to win the battle over Roque.

A Google search on Marc Janko returns this rather odd result from The Sun:

"29 Jul 2008 ... Austrian striker Marc Janko is a £1million target for Premier League new-boys Bristol City."

I'm not sure where to begin with that one.

He has 3 international goals in 7 games according to your link.

What age was Santa Cruz when we signed him? That's right 25!

Did he have a good record in club football? No, in fact 31 goals in 155 games.

Santa Cruz has had 1 good season, I think its a bit premature to think that he is a goal machine that will not be stopped, as 3 goals in 10 games this season shows. There are plenty of players out there who could match his career average goal per game. If he goes to City and does it then he will have proven himself but 1 season doesn't make you a quality striker.

Agree entirely and Janko is playing with lots of confidence at the moment, luck plays a huge part and an early goal if he came to Rovers would help trmendously, as with Benni and Roque, both scored early in their Rovers careers!!

He is obviously keen on a move to England

“England is still my dream”.

“There football is much more physical and quick. It is another world.

“Any player moving there needs some time to adjust, even top international stars.

“But at the end of the day quality always comes out on top and I’m confident I could manage it,”

BUT

“I definitely want to play in The Premier League. Tottenham are certainly among my favourite clubs.”

And Janko has had ½ good season. 2006-07 6 games 1 goal, 2007-08 10 games 4 goals. And the league is worse than Dutch, where even Kezman and Alves have scored similar numbers as Janko this year.

Edit: Stats from Soccernet

he was probably injured, as he is injury prone like Cruz... i think he is class if he stay fit.

one guy said about him (from my last link)

"he scored against Italy and in World Cup qualifiers against France and Serbia in recent games. also once scored both goals for Austrian under 21s when they beat the English U-21 side 2-1 at Elland Road a few years back !"

and he scored against us in Uefa, so i bet he CAN produce if he is fit. no doubt.

I know it is slightly off topic, but is there any interest in Lyon's Fred? I know he wants to leave and the club wants him out. There is rumors that Stoke are in for him. I personally rate him, Nicko, does Big Sam not share my opinion? I would have thought he could be a Roque replacement.

May just be past his sell-by date...last I heard he was going back to Brazil...not sure if he has signed for anyone yet.
