they_think_its_all_rover Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 I'd be amazed. He wants £65,000-a-week...and he fancies himself as a 'big club' player. No harm in trying, but I suspect this is Fulham getting the news out to spark an auction to sell Bullard and get some dough in for Delph at Leeds. Call me Mister Suspicious. Prepare to be amazed Alan... looks like those golfing holidays pay for themselves... Jimmy Bullard has signed for Hull City, just confirmed on KCFM.

nicko Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Prepare to be amazed Alan... looks like those golfing holidays pay for themselves... Jimmy Bullard has signed for Hull City, just confirmed on KCFM. If Hull pay Bullard £50,000-a-week then the game has officially gone mad.
they_think_its_all_rover Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 If Hull pay Bullard £50,000-a-week then the game has officially gone mad. £40k-a-week everyone seems to think round here. To keep this post Rovers related, in a way... Alan, I remember you saying once on here when there was rumours of Dave Whealan looking at buying Rovers, that he couldn't as it's against Premier League rules to own two clubs in the same league, so out of interest, how is the guy involved at Man City going to bid for Chelsea?

He's not. the guy who fronted the takeover at City is helping a german consortium. He's no longer involved at City

Because they guy 'behind' the Chelsea 'bid' is little more than a mouth...he is a Saudi version of Simon Cowell if you check him out. He was pushed out of the Man City deal after setting it up. He is now blabbing about Chelsea...all the best. He also uses this slug Bhoyrul to put out info... Let them get on with it.
Majiball Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 He has 3 international goals in 7 games according to your link. What age was Santa Cruz when we signed him? That's right 25! Did he have a good record in club football? No, in fact 31 goals in 155 games. Santa Cruz has had 1 good season, I think its a bit premature to think that he is a goal machine that will not be stopped, as 3 goals in 10 games this season shows. There are plenty of players out there who could match his career average goal per game. If he goes to City and does it then he will have proven himself but 1 season doesn't make you a quality striker. RSC has always been around just not fufilling his promise due to injuries etc. He was always rated at 19 he was already banging them in for Paraguay and signing for one of the biggest teams in europe at the time. He has 60 caps for his country and is aiding in them in currently sitting a top the south american qualifiers. Bayern would not have persisted with RSC if they thought he was crap especially given all the injuries he had, they kept him there for 8 years. You don't stay at Bayern 8 years if your no good. RSC goals at least came in our league, so you know he can cut it in the prem, Given our limited budgets as always we have to get our big signings right. I worry because simply if he signs he must suceed the investment for us would be around 10M with wages maybe more, at that sort of money (normally one whole seasons budget) we cannot afford failures. Given that Austria are 92nd in the world and thats the best 11 they have I do wonder what the standard is like in reality, where does the austrian league stand in the overall picture of football? I'd rather Sam had a bit more time to fish out his targets, or perhaps a loan. I'd rather some pace up front TBH. So we can start getting in behind defences. Perhaps Bent on loan if poss. Sam promised us proven premiership players all we seem to be doing is re-checking on Inces old targets. If he signs I'll welcome him and judge him on what he does on the pitch. I am also worried that signing this type of player maybe the start of a shift towards a 451/433 and I know what that means.
LeChuck Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 £40k-a-week everyone seems to think round here. Phil Brown has just gone down massively in my estimation. £5 million and £40,000 a week for a 30 year old? They'll never see a return on that investment, clubs like Hull simply can't afford to do that, he should have gone for someone much younger at that price. Bullard isn't even that good anyway. He's a 'Match of the Day' player, scores a decent goals/free kicks every now and again but his overall game through 90 minutes has many flaws.

No doubt about that in my mind. Exactly what Hull need and, providing he stays fit, he will be a massive asset. Hull do now look like they will arrest their fall down the league. Indeed Stoke have also bought well. It is going to be tight for the clubs in and around the bottom to stay up. I wonder if this is the year that Newcastle or Spurs will go down?
Ronin Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 I wonder if this is the year that Newcastle or Spurs will go down? Fingers crossed!
DP Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 They'll never see a return on that investment They will if he keeps em up Didn't we spend 2 - 3 mill on Savage when he was 30? One of our most important players for 2 years IMO
philipl Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 They will if he keeps em up Didn't we spend 2 - 3 mill on Savage when he was 30? One of our most important players for 2 years IMO £3.25m and big wages on a 31 year old if I am not mistaken re Savage. Could be a master stroke by Phil Brown or Bullard might get crocked in his first game. But Hull and Stoke are giving themselves a chance whereas the transfer moves by Boro and Newcastle so far don't look so good. Depending on suspensions (he is sitting out two games which might be Burnley and MU), Palacios is the signing that Spurs needed so they are going to have to continue imploding to go down- same as City....

One of our most important players for 2 years IMO Exactly what the Bullard deal struck me as, as soon as I heard about it... A 'Savage to Rovers' type of buy. Plus, I think it's a good investment as staying up has more financial gain than being relegated.

67splitscreen Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 I know that some streams are not allowed, but can a link for the game with Egypt v Kenya be posted. KO 5 pm GMT It is a of interest to all, and Nicko I'm sure.

Oklahoma Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Nicko, any news about Helguera and Fred? They could be good signings for Rovers and both are out of contract.

KO 5 pm GMT It is a of interest to all, and Nicko I'm sure. I'm pretty sure the rules regarding streams are in relation to the strict broadcasting rules that surround Premier League games in this country. Can't see why anyone would have a problem with an Egypt vs Kenya stream.
modes98 Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 No streaming links please! And Janko has had ½ good season. Did I say Janko was better than Rocky? I was simply making the point that Majiball is slating Janko when he is pretty much at a similar standard/career history to that of Santa Cruz. Given that Austria are 92nd in the world and thats the best 11 they have I do wonder what the standard is like in reality, where does the austrian league stand in the overall picture of football? It could be the Pontins league for all it matters, a goal is still a goal. You have to make space, intelligent runs and most importantly finish the chances. IMO being a successful goal scorer in the premiership is all in the players psychological toughness. An early goal and the pressure is off them, top players have come and struggled to get that early goal and fail.
67splitscreen Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 No streaming links please! How long is the ban. Anyone wanting the link for the Egypt game PM me. I know I'm going to regret this, but it is related to Nicko's romour mill.

No, I just didn't read the post you replied to that well Agree.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Can't see why anyone would have a problem with an Egypt vs Kenya stream. Despite us probably boosting the attendance of the game watching via a stream from one to about a dozen, it's still unfortunately against the law!
LeChuck Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 "Sheffield United and Celtic both want Manchester City striker Ched Evans, with Parkhead boss Gordon Strachan having already agreed a £1.2m fee for the 20-year-old." At that price we should be putting in a bid today, assuming there's some truth in it. He'll make a very good striker one day and that is a bargain. Edit: By the way, people post streaming links all over the BBC 606 messageboards. If you clicked on the quote put on the main article of our game against Newcastle it took you to a post that listed a load of streams. There doesn't seem to be much done against sites that post the links really.

An early goal and the pressure is off them, top players have come and struggled to get that early goal and fail. True, True. Stuart Yetton scored 72 goals last year for Truro, perhaps we should have a look? The higher the level the less space you get, the better your runs have to be, the more accurate with your finishing. You have to make quicker decisions react quicker and so on. Completely agree he may struggle if he doesn't get a goal for a while, going from hitting more than a goal a game to say none in 3-4 four is quite the drop, psychologically. For all I know he could more than make it he looks impressive but so did Carlos, infact so does every footballer on Utube. However I do not deny his track record this year its great, but one year in 6-7 in the same league, gives me doubt. How many times have these guys come here who bang in 40+ goals and suceeded is he Ruud or is he Alves/Kezman and they all came from a higher league. I honestly think we could get better in the summer when more players are available and the prices more favourable. It would also mean Sam doesn't have to make a quick decision and can take his time and get it right. If that means keeping RSC fine, what happens if Benni goes of the boil/injured???? Can you see Roberts and Derb's cutting the mustard, Given the right service RSC will score goals in this league we know that. Janko may flop, what do we do if something happens to Benni in that senario? panic. Losing 5M on his value because Hughes gets sacked is nothing compared to the 40M not to mention the pain it causes us the fans. There's more certainty by keeping RSC in maintaining our status in this league.
67splitscreen Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Janko. is a gamble, we all have our opinions on the possible outcomes. From what I have seen he could be worth the risk. I would think BS knows how he sees this panning out. I think he would be a big asset in a change of tactics role when we switch from a 4-4-2 to a 4-5-1 protecting a small lead. So start with Benni & Jason and then switching, or vice versa if chasing an away game. Just my humble opinion. Im no footy manager.
