nicko Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Slight update... Vogel can go, as the manager said, but not exactly queuing up for him. And he will sit on his wages if he doesn't like the move. The Bolton-Veloso thing has a better chance than I first thought. They have established that Man U and Man City are not coming in - and think their bid will be the biggest. Their paln is to do what they did with Anelka, pay a lot of money for a star and then sell him for a profit down the line. Fair play.

AggyBlue Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Their paln is to do what they did with Anelka, pay a lot of money for a star and then sell him for a profit down the line. Provided he does the business. Can't wait for one of these risks to backfire and drop the notlobbers right in it. Fingers crossed he doesn't like the cold
donis1410 Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 how do the trotters afford to pay this kind of money for players like veloso and elmander?
Hughesy Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 They pay over 3 or 4 years. Not a bad idea, unless of course they were to be hit with a relegation.
Majiball Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 I will be very surprised. I imagine he will have his eyes on the Man Utd job I'd be surprised to see him leave Inter, I would have thought he would have wanted to win a thing or two with them. But Mourinho with a open cheque book bigger than the russian ganagsters, GULP! Veloso is a clever deal, buy him pay over 4-5 years sell him in about 1-2 years, settle the rest and spend the profit.
dingles staying down 4ever Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 They pay over 3 or 4 years. Not a bad idea, unless of course they were to be hit with a relegation. they probably also have a relegation clause in so that they can ship them out fast if they get relegated
my_name_is_Earl Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 I think the Veloso deal is quite risky actually. Its a lot of money to be spending in the hope of making a profit. Who says he will acclimatise himself to the freezing conditons over a heavy winter or even that he will fit into Megson's style of play? Fair do's taking a risk with him but its not a failproof deal even though Veloso is obviously a very talented player where he currently is. On the rovers news, anyone find it strange that Big Sam appears absolutely certain that Roque will be with us after January even though we are apparently looking for another man to replace him before we flog him in this window? Surely Sam wouldn't risk his reputation with the fans who may not be as knowledgeable as us on the matter?

Sam's just talking up the price......if he implies that the Rovers are planning with RSC as part of their plans it means City have to bid high. If the implication that RSC is not part of the plans City can keep their bids low
my_name_is_Earl Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Sam's just talking up the price......if he implies that the Rovers are planning with RSC as part of their plans it means City have to bid high. If the implication that RSC is not part of the plans City can keep their bids low Yeah, I understand that, it's just that a large section of our fans are unaware of the ins and outs of the situation and will very much like Roque to stay now Sam has come out and said he will be staying. Surely, to some extent, he will be upsetting some fans if roque does go? Particularly if they replace him with a much lesser name signing...........interesting times, hope Sam gets it right
67splitscreen Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 I didn't watch this game but according to the link below, Mahmoud Abdul-Razek played on the wing! It also calls him a talented winger, it also doesn't mention Ahmed Al-Muhammadi, so either you or the person who wrote the article must have been watching a different game! http://www.filgoal.com/english/News.asp?NewsID=51702 The info on the player was given to me by an English speaking gent in the chat room. No.7 RM, Ahmed Al-Muhammadi. No.10 CM Mahmoud Abdul-Razek. Who knows maybe every ones wrong, I do not know. As for the report you mention, maybe he was at the wrong game. Quote. Egypt coach Hassan Shehata deployed a 4-4-2 formation, the strategy he usually uses during friendly games. He switches to his favored 3-5-2 formation in official matches. Harras Hodoud’s Ahmed Abdul-Ghani played as a lone striker and was supported by wide men Ahmed Eid and Mahmoud Abdul-Razek ‘Shikabala’. Never seen a 4-4-2 played with a lone striker. Not that it really matters, no one stood out in the game, so I would imagine there is no business to be done. IMO.

The pressure is slightly off Sam in the fact that he has two forwards scoring goals at present. The pressure would have been on if we had arrived at this stage of the season if Ince was still in charge and no forwards scoring.
waynerovers Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 for what its worth my egyptian work colleague who grew up with amir zaki says that Ahmed Al-Muhammadi is a very good player, skillful with plenty of pace and one of egypts best players

Particularly if they replace him with a much lesser name signing...........interesting times, hope Sam gets it right If we try to go through the season with Benni, Roberts and Derbyshire we are as good as down. All strikers have runs of poor form and injuries and if either of our two black pearls is laid up for a long time or loses serious form / sulks we will be relegated. Sam is playing hardball because any replacement would need to be PROVEN of Benni / RSC quality. We need a player who will command a start and threaten to push Benny and Roberts aside and not sit next to Derby on the bench. Such a player will cost nearly as much as RSC and would still represent a certain gamble so why make it easy for City or anybody else? Rem City only want RSC cos they bought a dud in Jo and a lightweight babyhouse with a well suspect temperament.
67splitscreen Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 I thought Nicko, may have had some feed back by now, from the game.

Unless this guy can manage to cross the ball as well.
nicko Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 I thought Nicko, may have had some feed back by now, from the game. The boy thinks he is signing...Rovers were at the game with his agent...to be fair, it's not the kind of game you judge a player on...more a check on his fitness. This may happen - if the price is right.
nicko Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Any estimations on the price? Egyptians are hard to deal with, but a fee of up to £1.5 million seems to be the educated estimate. Surely Rovers can afford that much...even if he is not a guaranteed starter straight away. Wigan lived to regret not buying Zaki and only taking him on loan for the rest of football to see.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 I can see that deal going through then. And on the Zaki comment, didn't Bruce even try putting an option to buy fee in the contract? Like we did with Carlos?
67splitscreen Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Egyptians are hard to deal with, but a fee of up to £1.5 million seems to be the educated estimate. Is that for both by any chance.
nicko Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 And on the Zaki comment, didn't Bruce even try putting an option to buy fee in the contract? Like we did with Carlos? I'm sure Brucie would have bought him, but Dave Whelan did not want to pay the fee up front...it happens. If he had been a dud they would have been down about £7 million. Now they may have to settle for having his goals - and off-field problems - for a season and then say 'goodbye.' So it's a tough call. But if the price had been smaller then it would have been done - the same probably applies to the right winger Rovers are watching. Sensible price = deal.
John Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Surely Rovers can afford that much... I am not so sure....
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 We've absolutely GOT to get an attacking midfielder in , Dunn's out today with the achilles again. If he was a horse we would have shot him. Play a game miss the next five is no good to anyone.
donis1410 Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Sam said only loans..maybe Bentley on Loan, or Jenas or Huddlestone???
