RevidgeBlue Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 But if it is someone in the budget then it could happen and the Roque saga will also be over. Who was the unnamed striker you mentioned a week ago who you said you knew was coming irrespective of RSC staying or going? Is there not the slightest possibility we might be just trying to strengthen the squad instead of just letting our best players go? (He said desperately clutching at straws)

John Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 The Cruz story is interesting because it was widely reported that one of the assurances Sam was given when joining us, was that he would not have to be sold. Plus the fact after the match yesterday, he also said he would not be going as the cost of staying up is worth more than any fee we receive for him. Of course managers usually say 'not for sale' etc and in most cases the player usually goes anyway, but you get the feeling Sam will not be best pleased if Cruz leaves (in January that is).
imy9 Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 The manager is in Spain this evening. It's a striker - and a potential replacement for Roque. I have been told of TWO games he is supposed to be at and a striker on the list scored in each. So, still working on this one. But if it is someone in the budget then it could happen and the Roque saga will also be over. The story about Zoro to Bolton is a surprise to Bolton, by the way. What is the budget for a striker? 5-6 million?
ffan Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I have been told, not very reliable I must admit, ( see the other premier league happenings thread) that Stephen Hunt has gone from Reading to Spurs and that Reading will start talks with Rovers said to be Keith Andrews...DON'T SHOOT THE MESSENGER, just saying what I have been told.
jny Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Its almost certain one of those strikers is Zigic then but hopefully not, in my opinion, as we need to look at younger strikers others could be Henok Goitom (valladolid) kalu Uche (almeria) , Ikechukwu Uche(getafe - by the way was he the speedy getafe player we were chasing in the summer Nicko?) or soldado (also getafe).

I don't think many people will shoot you for relaying that particular piece of gossip! A much maligned (imo unfairly) player our Keith. Now if you'd said Aaron Mokoena, I'd have bought you a pint!
LDRover Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 No need to worry about the quiet transfer window guys, we're keeping our powder dry for the next window. Again.
RevidgeBlue Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 No need to worry about the quiet transfer window guys, we're keeping our powder dry for the next window. Again. It must be so dry by now it's sodding well vapourised into the atmosphere. Come now Jason let's be accurate, that's the excuse for the summer transfer window. The excuse that's rolled out in January is "It's not the right time to buy, prices are too expensive."
stuwilky Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Fair point but we got a completely unexpected 5m in compensation for the departure of Hughes and his team so without knowing the exact details I would presume the effects of the two two managerial changes would roughly even themselves out. It would depend on how much we also had to pay MK Dons in the first place as well.
Alan75 Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 The story about Zoro to Bolton is a surprise to Bolton, by the way. The Video looks good

Just getting it in first before all the apologists out there, Simon. I'd just get myself more and more wound up if I wasn't so flippant about it.
thenodrog Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 The Trustees have already driven Hughes out for want of financial support - there must be a fair chance they'll do the same to Sam unless things improve. Maybe but lets look from an alternative perspective. IF the Walker legacy had completely died with Jack we would not have the trust to call on now and would be viewing our current situation from a far different perspective. I suggest some of our recrimination and even resentment would be replaced with admiration and a much stronger spirit of unity. The success that we have enjoyed in recent years in spite of our low spending is exemplory and should be an example to all. Problem is that just one slip by JW has all but screwed us over.
Kelbo Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I have played, managed and now involved in semi pro football, I listento some of the stuuf on here and I get amazed, the cost of operating football clubs are immense. Even non league, two levels below Unibond, many players are being paid over £150 per game!! Refs cost £45.00 plus expenses and Linesmen (assts) £30.00 plus expenses, then there are programmes to be produced, upkeep of ground, electricity etc so to a non league outfit who trvel to games in their own Car, a budget of around £80,000 per year is required!! Now, multiply that with the reserves, acadameys, Youth teams etc!! Travel, Hotels, managers/scouts airfares looking at players etc. Matchday officials, Policing and that income from gates only comes in home games!!! Summer when they dont play. pre season tours, taxes and NIC contributions of staff, upkeep of Brockhall and Ewood it goes on and on and with the credit crunch, the losses to the trustees in interest will be near millions than thousands!!!

alexanders Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I am very happy that I am a supporter of a very well-run club. I wouldn't like any or very few of the transfers done in January so far being done by Rovers.
Kelbo Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 in NWCFL2 or equivalent? First (Premier Division) New Mills have a budget of £2,400 per week!! (Players wages that is!!) FC United of Manchester two years ago were payin players massive amounts!!
thenodrog Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Maybe I am too cynical but when we have seen one manager leave because of financial restraints (yes he wanted to go in the end but you know this was a major factor) then gamble and fail with the next manager, why are Rovers seemingly happy to carry that cycle on with Allardyce? His track record isnt great, but its not appalling either. I'm not advocating paying silly money but if the guy identifies a target and within our wage and transfer budget, for gods sake, back him! Funny thing but on reflection Souness, Hughes and even SA all seem to be able to perform better WITHOUT money.
Blue n White Rover Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 What is the budget for a striker? 5-6 million? Zigic must be one of the strikers that is being watched tonight by Sam. Imy said that he scored tonight for Racing. Nicko also stated one of the strikers scored, that was being watched. Not a clue on the other one. Anyone know who scored for Real Madrid tonight
PAFELL Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I appreciate that its not the popular opinion that the trustees arent taking money out of the club and I did not say they were taking money out of Rovers. What has to be questioned surely is why they arent allowing Rovers to spend money of any substance. There is an overdraft to be paid agreed but does it not strike anyone that the fact they wanted 60 million plus for Rovers, which was estimated at around 10-20 million overpriced at the time, IMSC, and IF, not when (yet anyhow) IF rovers are relegated, any money they have stored away, will offset the lower sale price they would receive. Maybe I am too cynical but when we have seen one manager leave because of financial restraints (yes he wanted to go in the end but you know this was a major factor) then gamble and fail with the next manager, why are Rovers seemingly happy to carry that cycle on with Allardyce? His track record isnt great, but its not appalling either. I'm not advocating paying silly money but if the guy identifies a target and within our wage and transfer budget, for gods sake, back him! Or it could also mean that it easier to sell a club that is NOT in debt. Maybe there is unknown (to us) of possible interest in Rovers, on the condition the club is debt free.
Blue n White Rover Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Funny thing but on reflection Souness, Hughes and even SA all seem to be able to perform better WITHOUT money. What you trying to say? Hughes is doing a bad job at City Get away!
stuwilky Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 First (Premier Division) New Mills have a budget of £2,400 per week!! (Players wages that is!!) FC United of Manchester two years ago were payin players massive amounts!! Blinking heck, that is suicidal! And immensely off topic!
Kelbo Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Funny thing but on reflection Souness, Hughes and even SA all seem to be able to perform better WITHOUT money. I dont think its just the money, I think its the temperament of players who have been bought for vast amounts and how they need handling!! Hughes is struggling with the Brazillians, Souness probably spent more, but you are right, many managers mange teams better without too much cash!! Speaking of Brazillians and without going back into the previous stuff, Niko, Has Robinho returned to the UK yet?
thenodrog Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 How much do you reckon ince's compo was? and Knox? and Mathias? I seem to think (dunno why) that Ince was on an 'evergreen' 12 month contract and them other two surely could not have been on mega bucks by any stretch, so his pay off might not have been as costly as some reckon and I would imagine a long way behind the compo that we received For Hughes and his team.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Zigic must be one of the strikers that is being watched tonight by Sam. Imy said that he scored tonight for Racing.
