philipl Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Well whilst on the subject of timing, will City bid today when they would disrupt Rovers' Bolton preparations? Highly likely.

Bobby G Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 The Sun says Big Sam has told City that he has been unable to find a replacement for Roque...
The Prof. Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Ok Ok Sturridge is a decent "prospect" nothing more..............yet! He has done nothing to prove himself at this level............yet! If we sell RSC i would prefer someone to come in with premier experience, or International experience! Theres a reason City want RSC, Sturridge isnt ready yet. - On Sturridge, so unproven Arsenal and Chelsea think he's the dogs - On RSC, this season he's done nothing to prove he's anything more than a hard working target man. Kevin Davies does that! One season wonder? - On our top striker - thats Roberts right now! - On Robin Hood - Might be out for 7 years -see CCTV. Well City are determined to keep us entertained - RSC just went up to £25m! - On 11.00 o'clock. Give it a day or two and it will be worth reading but not tonight.
hawkiiz Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 can we close the book about Rocky now, and put it back in the shelf at ewood park? City put a "deadline" today didnt they? any news on the egyptian winger?

City put a "deadline" today didnt they? any news on the egyptian winger? According to this morning's Lancashire Telegraph the Rovers have dropped their interest in the Egyptian winger. Looks like Big Sam is going to have to get us out of trouble with what we already have!
dave birch Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Prof, you make a good point about "robin hood". His antics might just have pushed Roques price up. What would the city owners be thinking, given their attitude to such antics in their own country?
rovers1993 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 nicko, so to sum up our window: Defender - Brought in Givet on loan with option to buy. correct? Right back - Tried to find but could not so we're not bringing in any right back and leaving ooijer who will be here until the end of the season there. correct? Midfield - Tried to find a midfield sitter but could not/found out grella was good enough so gave up. correct? Right winger - Tried to get pennant but wages too high so we didn't and now we're brining in an egyptian on loan. correct? Striker - Will sell RSC if replacement is found but the 4 strikers lined up has a asking price too high. 4 strikers being Janko, Zigic, Dzenko, Javanovic. Now still hoping one will come of so we can sell RSC. correct? anything else i missed out? I think the key word in this window is 'tried' as we've been trying everything possible but nothing is coming off.
Backroom trueblue Posted January 28, 2009 Backroom Posted January 28, 2009 PLEASE keep the posts on here to asking Nicko Rovers related questions and discussing his responses.. this is NOT a general discussion thread. Thank you

I think the key word in this window is 'tried' as we've been trying everything possible but nothing is coming off. The Egyptian has, according to the Lancashire Telegraph, been deemed not to be good enough and the strikers seem to have failed to impress. We seem to have been trying for the past three transfer windows to strengthen our squad but nothing has come off. If there is no money to spend it's difficult to see how the squad can be strengthened no matter how hard you try. I think the lack of funds has now become the number one issue at the club. Even if we survive this season, if we have no money to spend in the NEXT transfer window then we are asking Sam to do an impossible job. Lack of investment in the club can only have one outcome eventually - relegation.

Midfield...maybe didn't 'try' hard enough...and Grella isn't good enough. Right winger...the Egyptian deal is still up in the air. Striker...absolutely. So one loan signing in and that's it. But it is only Wednesday.
RibbleValleyRover Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Lack of investment in the club can only have one outcome eventually - relegation. I have to agree. I think we have been fortunate in that a lot of these clubs even though they have spent money they haven't bought wisely and as a result we have been able to compete. If Sam has come out and said he can't find a replacement then its looking like the Roque transfer saga is over and he is staying put until the summer. By the looks of it we won't be bringing in anyone either, which is a huge disappointment. A right winger who can put in some decent balls into the box could get Roque firing again and give us a huge boost in our battle against relegation.
Bobby G Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 He is the most exciting name to be linked with us as a replacement for Roque. Great header of the ball and good finisher. Wouldve been a starter at Euro 2008 if it wasnt for his injury and he was top scorer in the UEFA Cup last season too. I hope its true. Nicko, any truth? If his contract is running out in less than a year then Id think 6 million pounds or so may be enough.
Guest Kamy100 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I did hear last week that Rovers were looking at Pogrebnyak then it went quiet. He would be the one player that could replace Roque and potentially be better. Have been following his progress over the last 18 months and think that he has all the qualities to do really well in the premier league. As Bobby said but for injury he would have done really well in Euro 2008.
philipl Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 At last a name which is close to equivalent stature to RSC. Could be good timing too for a late window grab but not getting hopes up. Pavlyuchenko has taken a long time to settle at Spuds and he is the Russian poster boy striker. Still needs City to offer enough and on time for getting the lad over from St Petersburg and do all the necessaries. Given the time City have spent dawdling and the difficulty Arsenal are having with Arshavin's folks, I would say this has about a 1% probability.
hawkiiz Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 how would his wage look like? link to article about him http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...y.html?ITO=1490 Everton and bolton were keen, but decided to go for loaneess instead... sound like the rule of three, and that he might be to expensieve.
The Rover of Finland Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Nicko, tell us something about this Zenit fellow!! Is there any truth because this the guy I´d like to see playing for Rovers! how would his wage look like? Propably less than RSC..
nicko Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I don't believe the Zenit story...his agent has been hawking him around. Ask Arsenal how easy it is to deal with Zenit. And see when he played his last game...he has been in cold storage. File under 'forget.' The chase for a Roque replacement isn't over yet, but I don't think he is on the radar.
Bobby G Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Very disappointing. Very. Best name on the list by far, and if we wasnt on the list to begin with, then thats a shame.
roversmad95 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 nicko, what are the chances of the rovers getting a couple more people in over the weekend?
nicko Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 nicko, what are the chances of the rovers getting a couple more people in over the weekend? You never say 'never' - and there are a couple of vacancies to fill. I think they have to get someone or else they will be short. It's no good relying on your relegation rivals being poor...in terms of quality. Big few days coming up here.
rovers1993 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 pavel last played november 22nd against spartak moscow which was the last game of the russian premier league. he has missed the last 2 games which was in the champions league against Juve and Real Madrid when he wasn't on the team sheet at all. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players/gamel...010&cc=4716 if anyone is interested to see how much he played during the past year and assist/goal scoring level then check there. 19 starts, 8 subs and 10 goals. seems decent enough but bare in mind i think he has better services with zenit. he is able to replace roque and we will probably have some money left over for another postion.

Rovers can't be signing someone who is about a month away from fitness. They need someone fit and preferably flying.
Oklahoma Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Portuguese newspaper "O Jogo" reports that Zoro WILL SIGN for Blackburn Rovers. It's a 3 and a half year deal. No fee in mentioned. O Jogo Newspaper "Record" mentions that, even though Zoro is in Lisbon now, Benfica and Blackburn Rovers are still negotiating a possible transfer. Record
