If we're after a cheap player with a good pedigree then we should be looking at Fred from Lyon. He's out of contract in the summer and Lyon are happy to let him leave now for a small fee. He's only 25, 6'1 (so similar stature to Roque) with an excellent goal-scoring record at every club he's ever played for.

I wonder if the Robinho stuff will increase City's deperation and therefore increase RSC's worth? If they come back I'd be very inclined to up the asking price.

It's tricky to talk about this stuff...but I don't think it will because I am not sure it is going to work out badly in the end.

Bad headlines obviously.

I don't think it will mean an increased Roque bid - and I don't think that will matter because Rovers have not got his replacement.

Am I alone in feeling like a dog chasing its tail?

I suppose it really comes down to how desperate, determined city are in going for RSC. Deadline approaching fast, RSC is still at Rovers. Rovers have not surrendered to citys financial muscle. Another player they have 'so far' failed to sign, which must be a bit embarrassing for Hughes. The richest club in the world yet cannot buy the players.

As Sam has not been able to find a replacement then they may have to offer cash plus Sturridge in order to get him - this maybe the only option city have of getting RSC.

Why are they letting him go? And why are there not a million clubs banging the door down?

That's the key. We're not under pressure to sell, and I think City will become desperate as we get closer to February 2nd. We can't find a replacement, and they potentially have one for us (who seems like he'll leave in the summer anyway so no big loss to them). We should only sell on our terms - good cash figure plus Sturridge.

Fred said he wasn't going to sign a new contract because he wants a change of scenery, and since then he's been pushed out to the fringes of the team a little, I think Lyon are just pleased to get rid of him now and get some money for him (probably similar to our situation with Lucas Neill).

Why more clubs aren't showing an interest...I have no idea. You'd think almost every team could do with a player of his calibre in their squad.

Edit: Found this article linking him with Stoke. There are some direct quotes there and he sounds keen on coming to England...he must be if he was genuinely considering Stoke!

Sorry for starting to sounds like a broken record, but it is the midfield that has to be a priority: the Newcastle game showed that.

Nothing like a 3-0 win to show our weaknesses....

Don't forget, that while we were poor in the first half, neither Dunn or Grella played during that first half. Once Grella came on in the second we played much better. I don't think it is as important as finding a right winger and right back. If we can find those two players then as well as Grella and Dunn as our first choice central midfield pairing, we would have Tugay, Andrews, Vogal (until he leaves) and Emerton as back ups (i'm not going to count Moko...). I get the injury concerns, but Dunn had an injury free season last season (was he that injured when he was here previously?) and I was under the impression that Grella hadn't suffered that badly before coming here - but I could be wrong on that front.

For me the right side is the absolute priority, and as we don't have much cash (apparently...) then we should concentrate on those two positions until the summer. hopefully in the summer we will clear out Moko and Vogal (although I like him the namager clearly doesn't) and then bring in quality reaplcements.

I believe that behind the scenes we are under pressure to sell. In financial terms its a crazy price for a player who may be disenchanted if he doesnt leave and we are unlikely to be given that money for anybody anytime soon.

Woah....just looked at the league table for the first time in ages (I couldn't bare to look before).....if we make the correct signings that we need and get a couple more wins under our belt we could find outselves up nearer 9th and back in a chase for europe.....but from then we would need to continue winning or get dragged back in.....surely this must be the tightest its been for years!!!!!!!!!!

Fred is available. He'd be affordable. He'd be interested.

I wouldnt touch the Brazilians if they paid me, temperamant is not good when things arent going right, thats no good to us in our situation.

I still think Diouff will come to Rovers before deadline!!

What do you think Nicko?

It's not going to happen. I hoped Sam would pull something out of the bag.

It certainly doesn't seem likely.

January: The worst month to be a Rover If going unbeaten in January is the worst month to being a Rovers supporter then I'd be curious to know what a 'good month' is in you opinion.
