nicko Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I wouldnt touch the Brazilians if they paid me, temperamant is not good when things arent going right, thats no good to us in our situation. I still think Diouff will come to Rovers before deadline!! What do you think Nicko? It wouldn't surprise me if Diouf came into the 'last dance at the disco' category on the final day.

Ricky Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Fred was supposed to meet Harry Redknapp yesterday but didn't show. Think he'd see Spurs as a better move than us to be honest but still think he'd be a worthwhile option for us to have a look at.
donis1410 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 It wouldn't surprise me if Diouf came into the 'last dance at the disco' category on the final day. I've heard he's got the moves to match, lol
gazsimm Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 It's not going to happen. I hoped Sam would pull something out of the bag. It certainly doesn't seem likely. January: The worst month to be a Rover going unbeaten for a whole month is not to bad is it
malk Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I can't shake the thought that a £15,000,000 sale of Santa Cruz and a, say, £5,000,000 replacement on 40k a week would allow us to bank £7,000,000 for the summer and then knock £4,000,000 off season ticket prices for next year. £200 off 20,000 season tickets would get the average cost down to something like £150 quid each! Lets see the crowds in Ewood after that. I agree with the poster above that mentioned us buying low and selling high. This is not the time to be throwing silly money at players and also might be one of the last times, certainly for us, to receive silly money. If McCarthy and Santa Cruz cost a combined £6,000,000 then we surely shouldn't be throwing £8,000,000 at another player. Plus, this whole diatribe about proven and unproven is really starting to get on my nerves. In terms of league goals Santa Cruz isn't a 20 goal a season striker (no great shame, off hand I believe there are barely double figures of strikers who have done it even in one season) but even if he were, one season doesn't make a proven striker. Andrew Johnson has scored 21 in his three premiership seasons since he bagged that number for Pallace back in the day. Forssell had his once season wonder stint so did Bent, Beattie had his though admittedly in the middle of a four season "pretty good" stint. Point being Santa Cruz could be rubbish or great from here on in (or indeed injured). The same goes for any other player. This proven or unproven means nothing unless you're buying a Shearer, Van Nistlerooy or Hénry in their prime. Hell, Torres is on course to get less than 10 goals in the league this season and Ronaldo only around 15. Keeping a player is often rolling the dice as much as bringing in a new one. I for one would certainly roll the dice on loosing Santa Cruz, bringing in another striker + one other and chopping off a big chunk from ticket costs.
spencey7 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I still think Diouff will come to Rovers before deadline!! I felt physically sick reading that. I hated Andy Todd with a passion - A thug in every way. But I forgave it. I couldn't stand Robbie Savage - A primadonna workman with delusions of grandeur. But I let it pass. I believe Sam Allardyce is responsible for creating the most boring, ugly teams in living memory. But I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until I see it at Blackburn. But El-Hadj Diouf in a Rovers shirt? If that happens they'll be one more empty seat at Ewood.

OJRovers Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I've just seen Alex McLeish in Manchester outside the Hilton, not sure what he's doing up here, maybe catching the Man City v Newcastle game? or Wigan v Liverpool? or Rovers v Bolton?
John Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Take note of Spurs, selling one of your best strikers at end of the transfer window can backfire....
Exiled_Rover Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Spurs sold their forward line, one that was tearing teams apart almost singlehandedly. We'd be selling a guy that is gagging for a move away from the club and at the moment is left on the bench (and rightfully so).

I still think Diouff will come to Rovers before deadline!! What do you think Nicko? Fred's a different kettle of fish. He's come to Europe and proved himself the hard way. It won't happen anyway.
BuckyRover Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Going unbeaten for a whole month?? We have played Blyth, Newcastle and Sunderland. Hardly anything to write home about. We haven't lost in the North East for about a decade and Newcastle are a total shambles. You know what I was referring to, so why did you choose to switch around the other way. The last exiting January signing we made was David Bentley.
alexanders Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 exiting January signing we made was David Bentley. Steven Warnock? Robbie Savage? Hughes did a lot of good January signings.,

Can somebody please call this guy an idiot, a paulette, stupid or any other offensive name? Because I certainly got called these things for daring to suggest that we shouldn't turn down a record transfer bid for a player that has only scored over 20 in one season, and spends most of his time on the treatment table. JAL you are an idiot and a bigot.
alexanders Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Nicko any truth in the Daily Mail report that a £18m deal for Roque to Man City is to be finalised in the next 24hours? Now we know who to not trust
BuckyRover Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Steven Warnock? Robbie Savage? Hughes did a lot of good January signings., Why is everybody trying to ******* argue with me all the time?? ROBBIE SAVAGE IS NOT EXCITING. NOR IS A LIVERPOOL RESERVE STEVEN WARNOCK! SAVAGE WAS SIGNED IN 2006. HARDLY RECENT!!
Gav Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 It's only a message board, don't take things so seriously.
gumboots Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Why is everybody trying to ******* argue with me all the time?? ROBBIE SAVAGE IS NOT EXCITING. NOR IS A LIVERPOOL RESERVE STEVEN WARNOCK! SAVAGE WAS SIGNED IN 2006. HARDLY RECENT!! Calm down and stop shouting. We don't get many exciting signings now full stop. However, we do get some that improve our squad which Warnock and savage certainly were. Bentley wasn't that exciting when we brought him in, just potentially so. I don't want excitement. I want players who can do the job we want them to do every week without getting injured as soon as someone walks past them. I'd settle for a couple like that now just to freshen the squad up and give us something different to watch and the opposition something different to think about. I'm not expecting miracles, but i would like something.
BuckyRover Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 ...(takes step back). I will get on with some work now instead
almuncle Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Why is everybody trying to ******* argue with me all the time?? I am not arguing with you...oops!
