The problem is the credit crunch.

We don't make a profit, we don't have an endless line of credit we can tap into, and the trust is, I guess, being defensive and only giving us what it has to to keep the club afloat. In times of economic trouble, costs are pared to the absolute minimum.

Having said that, it's risky, because if we end up going down the trust is going to have to pump even more money in just to keep us treading water.

I'm one of those frustrated by lack of transfer activity, but we have to accept it I guess.

we have had no investment foryears. Clubs with similar average attendances manage to spend more money. What part of my post is outlandish rubbish?

The teams with similar attendances are as follows

Hull City 24,794 - First year of big money after working on Championship budget.

Fulham 24,356 - Sugar daddy

Blackburn Rovers 23,089

Bolton Wanderers 22,719 - Sugar daddy

Portsmouth 19,508 - Sugar daddy

Wigan Athletic 18,042 - Sugar daddy

So basically, all of it.

The credit crunch has not affected Manchester City which is why their offer for Roque HAS to be taken seriously.

One way or another that cash will never pass this way again...

If Roque does not move in this window he probably never will.

Look at the 'big spenders' list this month - City and Spurs top it, the rest are nowhere.

If Rovers could find a replacement it would be great business.

There's a top Hungarian kid at Rovers right now...full details in the 11 o'clocker [depending on the Wigan traffic].

The lad plays on either wing and is quite well-rated. But a squad man to start with, by the sounds of it.

There may be more going on right now than we imagine, some bizarre leads to work on right now.

The Derbs tip earlier is intriguing.

Oh look some stuff from Nicko. This Hungarian sounds interesting, although that is mainly because he might be played as a right winger. These 'bizarre links' sound interesting. Are we talking Michael Jackson playing centre for the All Blacks level of weirdness?

Nor should it be. we already have some of the lowest ticket prices and if prices go too low people think it must be a rubbish product and don't want to buy anyway. I know tickets are expensive if unlike me you don't have a job or have to worry about job security but they are still wellpriced. I'd rahter our club was as debt free as possible.

I certainly don't expect ticket prices to be dropped and I agree that they are decently priced, for the premiership but merely wanted to bring up the numbers. It wouldn't actually cost that much to bring down ticket prices to a level where virtually everybody could afford them.

Every 20k taken from the wage bill could be a £50 reduction in 20,000 season tickets. Every £2,000,000 not spent on a player could be a £100 reduction in 20,000 season tickets, not to mention saved wages.

I'm not saying don't bring in players or weaken the team but every window brings countless posts about bringing in players by whatever means possible. Throwing money away never makes sense.

Now reducing our debt would be just as worthwhile as reducing ticket prices but the real point is that both would be a better idea than paying unnecessary fees or wages. We need a small squad that is concentrated in talent. Injuries are made up for by short stints from youth players.

Sky are reporting that we have made contact with Zenit regarding Pogrebnyak.

There are direct quotes from an official from Zenit.

Not sure whether to believe this or not.

Any truth in this Nicko ?

Sounds good But...............

why has no one else picked up on this story? His signing could coincide with the Derbs loan story maybe?

Hmm. So Derbs might be going on loan and we seem to be looking to bring this Russian in. As his contract is up in November surely he wouldn't be costing us too much so any chance he could be coming in AND Cruz stays? I suppose it depends on the valuation of the Russian, but it would explain Derbs going on loan.

I have a few questions about Pronbrnyk or however you spell it?

1. How do you pronounce his name?

2. What sort of player is he?

3. Is he any good?

I think other clubs will be in for him though.

I've only seen a few games and he looked very decent, though that may be due to the quality of players around him, Zenit have some fantastic players. 6 foot 2, strong, good in the air and runs all day from what i can remember. Perhaps someone else who has seen him play more can comment on on his pace, finishing ability etc.

He was linked to Everton, Bolton and Spurs a while back. Personally i can't see him coming as he came out the other day saying he wants to stay at Zenit.

ok so if google translate is anywhere near the truth...

rovers and zenits valuation of the russian is almost equal, so that part should go down well. but they are waiting for rovers to make an offer to the player, which i suspect will stop the deal.

Arshavin to arsenal = the deal is set, but he demands so much in wages that in order to pay him, arsenal have said to zenit that the fee must go down... which it is not. i can totally see this happen with rovers aswell.

according to the translation though, zenith are worried that they wont get money for Pogrebnyak as he is out of contract shortly.

He surely has got to be worth a try. guess we will see if anything is going to happen shortly.

He didn't go to the Euro's this summer cos of an injury and Roman Pavlencheko (sp) took his place in the starting line up. So this guy is rated higher than Roman by Hiddink. If the price is right, I think this would be a great buy.

Plus he was joint top scorer in Uefa Cup last year with Luca Toni.

Feel free to shoot me down but if i was to "compare" his style to someone it would be Big AL!

Strong great shot and good in the air! Not saying hes as good as Shearer but his Bullish style of

play is similar! Dont know what the prenunciation is though!

From the sounds of the club, the Russian will be coming to us.

Somehow though, it seems too quiet. I know we can keep deals under wraps but this is a biggie. Surely someone would have heard/reported it by now?

What we need is our Chief Executive and manager going on SSN announcing our intention to sign him, and how we will pay by planting 1,600 trees and pay £400,000 to Russian charities as part of a 'humanitarian' transfer deal.
