dellinsert Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Certainly seems to have divided opinion already. Is it just me who is not that bothered? I support the team, the club. Players will come and go, always have, always will. If RSC goes, we'll survive, if Diouf comes ditto. Support the sum of the parts, not the parts themselves. Let's get behind the team...

gumboots Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 If sam wants to sign him then so be it. If it helps us stay in the prem this season, then whats the bloody harm in signing him. Booing him is just childish and damb right bloody thick. I'll ask again. did I say I'd boo him. NO
spencey7 Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Spencey7: Grow up and realize where the club is these days I was going to reply to this properly, but what's the point when gumboots does it perfectly: Why is it that when anyone voices a different opinion someone always has to say they are not a real fan. Being a real fan is wanting the best for the club. You may think this player is it. Others don't. There is no right and wrong here. It's not about being a real fan or not. It's about your perception of a player. i don't think this guy is actually good for our club. He may slightly improve our first team options but i suspect he'll bring more bad stuff than good to the club as a whole. That doesn't make me less of a fan than anyone else. It just means that my opinion on his merits and disadvantages is different from yours.

Diouf did not cause any unrest within the Bolton squad while he was there under Sam, so what makes you think he will cause unrest at Ewood now.

If Diouf does his job and help Rovers survive, I won't complain.
rovgers Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Have I missed something, I even trawled through all the posts from today, have we actually signed Diouf or as it even been reported that we've put in a bid for him? Where's the link to any of these stories? Until this actually breaks, I think that people need to chill a bit!
Flopsy Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 i cant wait for Asef's comments on this. the ruskie?

Diouf did not cause any unrest within the Bolton squad while he was there under Sam, so what makes you think he will cause unrest at Ewood now. I didn't say there was anything wrong with it. I just said that I feel that some of the things he might bring outside of his playing might not be to the advantage of the club. It's an opinion - that's all.
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Who is of more use Derbyshire or Diouf? A right sided player who we've desperately needed for half a year or a reserve striker who will always be behind Roque/Benni/Roberts. And i dont think anyone would say that someone isnt a 'real' fan for having a different opinion, its just that when that opinion revolves around hating a particular player so much that they'd stop turning up to support the team on match days i think it says alot about that person. Which is more important - Diouf as a person or the success of Blackburn Rovers? i know which i care more about.
mark1875 Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I Really think we might need an EL Hadj Diouf topic, so he doesnt take over this one lol
spencey7 Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Diouf will give us what we need, a right winger who can not only deliver a half decent cross but also attack full back.........something Brett doesn't seem to be able to do. Diouf hasn't done that effectively in years. He came to the Premiership as a striker, hardly ever scored so - like so many others (Kalou, Kuyt, Derbyshire) was "tried on the right" as a result. He's not just a mindless, despicable thug, in my opinion he's not that great a player. This drive against dissent is like something from Nazi Germany.
mohelger Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Sunderland paid £ 2.6 mill for him in the summer, hasn't been a success for them, and now they get £ 1 million in profit??

Who's said they are going to do anything against him. Temptation is one thing. Acting on it is another.
almuncle Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 THREE-POINT-FIVE MILLION FOR A SPITTING, WIFE-BEATING, DISRESPECTFUL, DIVING, CHEATING, CLOWN. Has his bad points too don't forget!
brian_gallagher85 Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I believe Nicko did say "in total" so that may include add-ons and/or wages for the length of the deal?
LeftWinger Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Diouf hasn't done that effectively in years I might be wrong - I'd have to check with a Bolton fan - but didn't he go a bit rubbish after a certain manager left them?
nicko Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Sunderland paid £ 2.6 mill for him in the summer, hasn't been a success for them, and now they get £ 1 million in profit?? Bolton sold Diouf for a deal worth £3.5 million in total...including extras.
joey_big_nose Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 We have been down this route once before - Bellamy is every bit as unpleasent as Diouff but he did well enough for us, and the fans loved him. Could be the same with the Senegalese. I am willing to give Diouf the benefit of the doubt and hope that he can show he has grown into a model professional. I like second chances. I wonder how we will line up as I am unsure whether Diouf really can play right side in a 442? I can see us playing three up front.
The Rover of Finland Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Nicko, is Diouf published before Boro match? Atleast he can take a penalty. And dive a few too..
mohelger Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I believe Nicko did say "in total" so that may include add-ons and/or wages for the length of the deal? You're right, which makes more sense - and of course I can see that Sunderland at least want back what they paid to Bolton. I'm really looking forward to some more details about the fee when/if the transfer is confirmed...
Woodsy1 Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Heard rumours about us taking Darren Bent plus less than 5mil for RSC Nicko, any truth in that?
gazsimm Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I might be wrong - I'd have to check with a Bolton fan - but didn't he go a bit rubbish after a certain manager left them? Every bolton fan i know says Diouf was one of their best players under Sam, so if anybody can get the best out of him Sam can. Diouf may of some troubles of the pitch like his spitting and diving, but he can get back to how he was playing under Sam then that will be a massive boost for Rovers in helping them stay in the Premership
