SAM: Time is up for City?

"There is not the opportunity now to get the quality of striker we need to allow us to even consider letting Roque Santa Cruz move to Manchester City," remarked Allardyce.

"So for me, he stays, although I can't put it to bed completely until the deadline has passed."

Quotes from after the game last night...ignore.

It's called 'playing hard to get.'

Tricky? Yes. Pacy? By no means.

I do rate him though, just not at £3.5 million pounds.

Nicko - what about a swap RSC - Pavlyuchenko...or do Spuds want to keep him now? Would be great with Pavlyu and Pogrebnyak upfront for us :)

think of the money the shirt lettering alone would bring into the club

Bent would be an improvement on Roberts, not sure about a rsc replacement.

So you just assume that there are decent £5/6m right wingers lying around do you?

No, but I assume there are some decent £15m right wingers around. Ince - yes INCE - was looking at Matias Fernandez and Joaquin.

I'm willing to bet that - until there's a takeover - Blackburn will NEVER sign players of that calibre.

For all we know, Ince could be looking to Ronaldo, Messi, Kaka.

And guess what, we won't sign them either.

Just because Ince watched those players, doesn't mean there was ever the possibility to sign them.

And a swap deal is almost impossible!!!

It's about AMBITION. Hughes had it, in signing Benni and Roque, and it's just staggering that we got them as cheap as we did.

We've got to be aim higher than Diouf or Bent. But as soon as we cross the £6m threshold it's "Ooo, wait a minute, that's a bit pricey..."

There's one reason why moves like that will never happen for Blackburn Rovers under the trustees/Williams - Some call it "careful financial management". I would call it "refusing to invest in the squad and stiffing the fans".

You can't be serious ???? Are you?

Nick

Edit - in fact, thinking about it, did he look quite decent for you before he moved to Sunderland?!?!?!

Stead scored the goals that kept us up. It was a flash in the pan; without Cole alongside him he could get nowhere near doing the same the next season but for what he did for us we are always grateful. I'd not want to hear anyone speak ill of him.

I won't hear ill of the stead either - i think his first goal was against Middlesborough wasn't it? a 1-0 win at the Riverside.

6 goals in 13 games - £1.1m from Huddersfield. Souness at his most inspired (apart from Tugay at £1.2m from Rangers!)

Mind you, the following season the poor lad couldn't buy a goal, I remember him hitting post after crossbar after post - he didn't score until later in the season against Everton in, yes, a 1-0 win. I think he'd forgotten how to celebrate!

And his music career has gone frm strength to strength.

Suppose this is not totally directed at Rovers, but i'm interested in the Saviola link to Wigan as part of an exchange for Valencia. I'd like to see someone like that at Rovers for a few months. Any information on that one Nicko?

Saviola is on a ridiculous wage. Even on loan he is a fortune. Hasn't played much for a year or more. Big cost, big risk.

Wigan did not want him in the Valencia deal...£18 million or no sale.

Real Madrid were at the game last night and are still here.

That one is very live, but there are other clubs in for him.

And to think Hughes could have bought him before he went to Wigan - shows he wasn't infallible
