I see interesting. No doubt he's on a lot at Real Madrid. Quite interested in the whole Valencia leaving Wigan malark, think he's a good player and obviously one we passed up. If he does go they have a fortune to spend, but not a long enough time period to spend it in.

Urm! similar to us then.

It's about AMBITION. Hughes had it, in signing Benni and Roque, and it's just staggering that we got them as cheap as we did.

We've got to be aim higher than Diouf or Bent. But as soon as we cross the £6m threshold it's "Ooo, wait a minute, that's a bit pricey..."

There's one reason why moves like that will never happen for Blackburn Rovers under the trustees/Williams - Some call it "careful financial management". I would call it "refusing to invest in the squad and stiffing the fans".

WOW you've got a bad case of "big club" syndrome by the sounds of it. Diouf is a proven premiership player and if there was any talk of Darrent Bent joining Rovers pre-Spurs then you'd literally have been drooling! We could spend an awful lot more money than £6mil on a player and get worse (we've done it before, as have many other clubs more recently). I'd like to see how you would run a football club with a limited budget and only ~20,000 regular fans - certainly not Rovers though because I don't want to see them go bankrupt! You think if Hughes had £25-30mil to spend on one player that he would have even bothered looking at Benni?!

a shame?? surely if he is to become a great winger - going on loan to plymouth will help this?

What i mean by a shame is that we are short on right wingers and we may need him later on in the season. He's not the finished article no, but i don't want to let any players go on loan or otherwise when we are in the middle of a relegation battle and every player helps.

You do realise that we can call players back from loan periods? If we're desperate then a phone call to plymouth and he's back at Ewood.

Absolute rubbish, at no stage did I suggest spending £25m-£30m on any one player. My point is that when you lose a player worth £15m, that same amount (or the VAST majority of it) should be reinvested in the playing staff. It's that simple, and it's only fair to the fans.

There's talk of selling Roque for (now) £20m, yet the replacement strikers we've looked at have to cost less than £6m or they're "too big a risk"...

Look at the figures being spent by Bolton, Wigan and the like. Blackburn aren't a special case, other than our funders refuse to open their wallets.

Just confirms Nicko's earlier story for me - i.e. that Diouf is coming in.

Seems reasonable - an experienced winger in - and let one go on loan to get some experience.

Why do you expect somebody else to fund Rovers ? Only an avg of 20k attend Rovers - paying some of the lowest ticket prices in the league, something has to give somewhere.

If we get £20m for Roque I would agree with not spending it all on one player. Surely McCarthy and Roque have shown you don't need to spend huge amounts to get in decent strikers.

Good Lord, I'll try again - I'm not saying that the £15m for Bentley or the (potential) £20m for Roque should be spent on "one player", but rather that it should be REINVESTED IN THE PLAYING STAFF.

The board seem to be doing everything that they can to ensure that this does not happen.

At last ... somebody speaking a bit of common sense, we can't have it both ways folks. People talking about signing multi-million pound players as if we are playing with monopoly money ... this is real money that has to be paid back to the bank at point, as we have probably seen with the Bentley money. People want cheap tickets yet still want the club to fork out for big money signings - the club is a business, and if the business doesnt generate the revenue it cant spend it - SIMPLE REALLY :rover:

I think we'd be spending a little more if we looked more secure in our position. Any money brought in now has to be banked in case the unthinkable happens and we lose half our first team to relegation release clauses or in the general Rovers "everything must go" sale. £20m for Roque now will buy 8-9 Championship players in the Summer if need be. If we continue to play like we have been, then the money's still there in the summer.

Stead scored the goals that kept us up. It was a flash in the pan; without Cole alongside him he could get nowhere near doing the same the next season but for what he did for us we are always grateful. I'd not want to hear anyone speak ill of him.

Amen, Brother. I will never forget that goal, in fact, his performance at the Cottage.

Johnny Stead :!:

i can only judge the guy from games i've seen him in, just the blyth game. From that alone i'd say he's not even close to getting a first team game in the league.

do we have to have players signed before lunchtime tommorrow so they can play against boro?

At the risk of igniting a discussion from another thread, Judge is not a winger although he can try to play out there.

Both these late loans out make huge sense.

Any news on Gallagher's knee injury which has scuppered both loan and transfer plans?

Agreed with Philip - both loans are aimed at improving our players and getting them vital new experience to improve their knowledge of the game.

Also Diouf is a much better than Derbyshire or Emerton on the right wing - people need to realise that he is much better than any right wing option we have. He can also play upfront if needed.

Any news from anyone about the pursuit of a central midfielder?

i'd have this as the priority over everything, need way better players here to avoid the shambles of the first hour yesterday. Not every pass is a hoof up field bypassing the middle, need someone with composure,a decent engine and more importantly a good injury record we can rely on to play every game. We need that one player you can rely on to be the first name on the teamsheet in the middle of the park, as we've not had that for a long time. Grella is the slowest man alive and dunn is dreaming if he thinks his next contract is'nt pay as you play.

is there even a sniff of us linked with a cm?

Can you accept the fact that THERE MIGHT NOT BE A PLAYER THAT IS WORTH BUYING AT THE MOMENT. You seem to think that there are Roque's and Benni's all over Europe and the only reason for why we're not getting them is that our board are not releasing the funds.

How do you know that the board are 'doing everything' to prevent the money being spent on other players when there are clearly no players out there that are worth buying. Thats not showing a lack of ambition thats just reality. Id rather we didnt throw money at average players. You seem to be a tad delluded as to who is available during the January transfer window.
