At the time we were selling him and subsequently, I argued that the club should not be selling Bentley irrespective of how stroppy he got.

Nobody would listen when I explained then that the club was not going to get any early cash benefit from the deal.

I have simply repeated what I wrote on here last June and July.

If you hadn't been banging on about us signing Xabi Alonso at around the same time I may have paid more attention to the important things you were saying ;)

Answering T4e's question about how the Bentley deal could well look like:

Transfer fee £15m basic + £2m if certain conditions are met- the only possible one looking it might be fulfilled would be Spuds selling Bentley on.

Unless Rovers did a special deal, between 25% and 50% of the £15m would have been paid upfront and the balance is payable in installments.

So

£3m About 20% of every deal leaks out in tax and agent and player payments

£6m From £12m profit, 50% payable to Arsenal if it was a 50% pay-on as suggested by Nicko

£6m Certainly not yet payable by Spurs to Rovers

£0m Received and retained by Rovers

Another reason why we should have superglued Bentley to Brockhall.

"Could" being the operative word.

Philip you don't have post some rubbish on here but as an outlandish work of fiction that takes the biscuit.

All transfers are payable by installments so we're at no major disadvantage to anyone else there, and to suggest that we would have to pay Arsenal on less advantageous terms than we're getting from Spurs is absolutely ridiculous.

What "tax" makes up part of 20% of every deal exactly?.

The sorriest part of what you've written is that people seem to take the made up rubbish you post on here as gospel fact.

Half is the word you are looking for Rev.

Let's take your post bit by bit-

It has been made illegal for agents to take fees both from the players and the clubs. So the player pays the agent so that comes out of his taxed income. As a result since the rule change was introduced, agents fees payable for transfers have been grossed up by 40% so the agents get paid the same as they always did but the cost to the club has increased by the amount of tax paid by the player.

Any arguments that players and agents get paid slices from the transfer fee?

Arsenal are not on better terms than Rovers. I believe that it is the norm that if any fee arising from an earlier transfer is outstanding when a player subsequently moves, then the outstanding transfer is required to be settled from the first monies received from the following transfer. That is why Bentley being flogged by Spurs this window- unlikely though it is- would be good news for Rovers.

Any argument over whether Bentley was bought by Rovers before Rovers sold him to Spurs?

We agree that transfers are payable in installments so neither of us think much more than half Spurs' £15m will have been paid yet- if that much.

The points of argument would be whether Rovers had negotiated to spread the payment of the sell-on clause from Arsenal to Bentley and whether Rovers actually did face an Arsenal sell-on clause and if so how much.

I looked at the sell-on clauses Arsenal were putting into the sales of players and concluded that Rovers getting a deal to buy Bentley for £750K down probably had a very big tail on it. There are acknowledged 40% Arsenal clauses elsewhere and they are even going to get 20% out of £14m from Real Madrid despite selling Diarra for a not unreasonable £6m a year ago. Subsequently the 50% number appeared as the figure in the press- whether they picked that up from here and its rubbish, I don't know.

So Arsenal sold Bentley to Rovers for £750K down, another £2.25m payable against specific targets (which Bentley met) and a %age of the profit made on any subsequent sale (probably 50%)

Rovers sold Bentley for £15m fixed payable in normal instalments, plus another £2m if Bentley performed against specific targets (probably isn't) or when Bentley is sold on to another club (perhaps subject to certain terms).

How can you argue the Arsenal's terms from Rovers are better than Rovers' from Spurs????

Calmed down now Rev?

Anything left for you to claim as being "made up rubbish".

I must admit, I have to laught at many of your posts these days. Happy New Year!

Nicko- what are the odds of Warnock remaining a Rovers player in this window as you have mentioned before that we are actively looking at left backs.

Also now that Ricky has become manager of Sunderland are there any other potential backroom staff incomings or is Sam happy with this lot!

Ooijer - I think he could go if a right back is found...clearly not a long-term prospect and a free in the summer.

Roque - a bit puzzled that Man City haven't bid the cash yet...sounds like they may not be in agreement at that club...but it only take a call.

Targets - think there may be some progress with a left back/left centre half but that will have to wait a few days...may also be a midfield player being watched this weekend...things going on,,,but in a slow and steady way.

Warnock - somebody has got to bid...Tottenham and Newcastle have an interest but his recent displays have not inspired.

Could I ask are the players being watched, players that would excite the fans? I was just wondering how different Sam is from Ince in this manner.

Both of the players that I have heard of are top class.

So getting them will be a difficult matter.

One could be a loan, the other a lot of dough.

Name them when I can...

Nicko, If they're top class why do we need to have them watched ? Let's just PRETEND it's Jimmy Bullard and Scharner from Wigan, we all know they're capable and would improve our team. You either pay the money or you don't, would you have them watched ?

If we apply your logic, it follows they are not currently playing in the Premier League.

Let's also face it, £10m doesn't buy a lot of top class talent in the UK and given there is no bid for Roque, let alone an offer in the £20m region, prudent transfer window planning inevitably means Sam working within the £10m number.

Nicko, are they realistic targets? During the summer you said that when Bentley left we were looking at exciting targets to replace him and none materialised. The only name though that had a chance of becoming realistic was Mr. Pennant.

This is not having a go at your articles in the summer, I just don't want to get my hopes up to have them dashed.
