Mr Creosote Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 The cynical side of me thinks Nicko's just made it all up - but I shouldn't say that on here as people get upset! What are you doing on this thread? You are a right pain in the @rse. Easy to see the thread title so if you dont like it dont view it.
leftfooter Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 The whole Crouch thing just doesn’t make any sense to me. Why would Pompey risk relegation and sell their only decent striker to a relegation rival? Are they really that strapped for cash? Even if they are, Crouch must be on enormous wages (I doubt he took a wage cut when he left Liverpool to go to Pompey) and I can’t see how we’d be able to afford them. Finally, I’m not sure why Crouch would want to leave one relegation candidate to go to another when in the summer he’ll probably have a few clubs after him. I reckon it’s all Fantasy Island stuff. I'd prefer Rocky to stay anyway. The self-confessed arms dealer Arkadi Gaydamak is in deep financial trouble. Gaydamak has (or had) money stashed all over the place, including Russia. If Abramovich has taken a huge hit, Gaydamak has been hit harder. He had a lot invested in securities and the like. Add to this that Putin's coffers are running a bit low (having only salted 50 billion at a conservative estimate in to his own account), so all the oligarchs are going to have to sttart contributing tithes to the Putin coffers, or face financial sanctions. The plummeting oil price means that Russia is facing financial meltdown. The son's ownership of Portsmouth is a corporate charade. Therefore Portsmouth are also in deep trouble.

Scotty makes a valid judgement regarding what might be a very tall story about Peter Crouch coming to Rovers, which as others have pointed out doesn't make sense from so many angles. On the other hand, you have made a pointless post which only contains a personal insult, and completely ignores the guidelines currently in place. I expect you to be banned shortly.

gumboots Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 An amazonian beauty & a leggy blonde!?!?! .......now theres something i would download!! ....we're not still talking about Roque & Crouchy, are we!?! yes because I don't fancy girls only blokes and I'll tell you it's no contest.
my_name_is_Earl Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 I don't think Nicko's made it up. Allardyce is an admirer of crouch and has been for a while. He also fits into his style of play. It just seems that some of us are very apprehensive about the end of the window and perhaps have started growling a little bit more when the same stuff would just be ignored usually.
nicko Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Oh my, what a fuss... Sam went in for Crouch last week to check out the price and wages. Now that the Roque price has gone up - almost £4 million in a week - he has the dough to try it. Roque doesn't go without a replacement. And Crouch is THE [and very] good first choice now that the spending budget could go up. Will it happen? That's up to the board and the money men. Selling Roque for £20 million-ish and getting a very good replacement for half of the cost in fee makes sense. There will be a snag with his salary, but there are ways round that. I know from previous chats with Sam that he loves Crouch as a player with a passion...this would be a huge coup for him. Let's face it, Roque doesn't want to be at the club. My tale, as it happens. Diouf wasn't one I broke originally, I just had to report it on the day it was being done.
Blue n White Rover Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Are Pompey willing to sell? Does Crouch fancy moving? Does Roque want to go to Spurs if City don't come up with the dough? Will City come up with £20million? Cheers Nicko

Just out of curiosity why are we not looking at a 20m replacement?
nicko Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Are Pompey willing to sell? POMPEY NEED MONEY - STILL Does Crouch fancy moving? HE ISN'T HAPPY WITH EVENTS AROUND HIM...ROVERS NEED TO CONVINCE HIM OBVIOUSLY Does Roque want to go to Spurs if City don't come up with the dough? INTERESTING QUESTION...BUT HE ONLY GOES WHERE ROVERS TELL HIM HE CAN Will City come up with £20million? CITY WILL HAVE TO...THAT'S WHAT SPURS WILL PAY [AND MORE POSSIBLY]...
BRFC1995 Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 i want a prolific striker, crouch has never and probably will never be prolific, for 10m and 5m in wages per year i want a better goal return than i could ever see from crouch. keep santa and try for that russian in the summer or get janko, all the other potential targets don't seem like gambles weighed against the total cost of buying crouch.
hawkiiz Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Let's face it, Roque doesn't want to be at the club. really? his quotes say different. so which is it? does he want to JOIN sparky, or does he want to LEAVE us no matter what?
T4E Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Right.............so whats next? I'm guessing to get the whole thing moving, Sam now has to convince the Jersey lot to part with the cash for Crouch, convince the boy to come and get it all agreed in principle, before we allow Roque to talk to anyone. That could take quite some time. BTW - the City deal was cash up front which made it very attractive - is the Spurs £20m the same?
Blue n White Rover Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 With Roque's recent quotes it seems as though he wants to link up with Hughes. Don't know if harry can convince him or not but this is gonna be a hell of a few days that's for sure! Any other news Nicko?
cn174 Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Let's face it, Roque doesn't want to be at the club. To be replaced by Crouch who seemingly doesn't want to be at Rovers either!! :(
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 really? his quotes say different. so which is it? does he want to JOIN sparky, or does he want to LEAVE us no matter what? All his quotes say that he's happy here but he would rather be somewhere else. Clearly he'd rather be elsewhere and as this is the only opportunity to make silly money off him plus get a decent replacement im hoping that something will happen shortly. Up until now i wasnt convinced with the targets mentioned due to their inexperience at this level, but Crouch represents a decent bit of business if we can get £10m on top.
my_name_is_Earl Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Nicko, how likely is it that Spurs will actually come in with the cash?
Backroom Tom Posted January 30, 2009 Backroom Posted January 30, 2009 Wonder if Crouch will fancy swapping Sandbacks for Lancashire, some houses for sale in Rishton if he's interested. Am I right thinking mondays deadline is teatime rather than midnight?
leftfooter Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 It's Crouchy's only way back into the England setup in my opinion. Just out of curiosity why are we not looking at a 20m replacement? Fair enough. Name me a 20M replacement that's willing to come to Ewood?

RibbleValleyRover Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 I remember reading an article a long time ago after Roque scored that hatrick against Wigan saying that his family were settled in Manchester and that he had no desire to uproot them, especially to a place like London. There could be some truth to that because in his recent comments he has more or less said if he was to move then it’s to City due to the Hughes factor. He said he is aware of interest from other clubs but from the sounds of it he isn’t interested. I think if City’s interest ends he will turn any other moves down and stay until the summer.
