And Diouf and Crouch did so well at Liverpool after their big moves didn't they? That's why they're still there! Hang on...

And Bent at Spurs has been a revelation.

I don't think you quite understand how it works. The league is littered with players who were underwhelming at Liverpool and Spurs but are very very good players - Bellamy, Mendes (in Scotland now), Defoe left then came back to Spurs, Heskey. Spurs play too many attacking players and lack stability ruining many careers. Liverpool sign talent but then leave them on the bench.

I would say there are about seven or eight players at Spurs who could improve our team. The hilarious fact of it is that the sum of their parts is pretty weka as the are all sapphire and little steel.

according to the mirror on the 15th of jan jankos agent was here, discussing terms after a 4m offer. Suggests interest on the players behalf if not his clubs, bigger offer before monday and i think contracts go out the window.......throw rigters to them. May end a world beater in that league.

Those three players were NEVER worth those ludicrous sums - and they sure as hell aren't now.

I am more proud than you can imagine to disagree with you thenodrog. Your antiquated, incoherent, garbled views on football are a struggle to read to be honest.

I'm surprised you're allowed to post on here at all given your persistent racist vitriol against all nations and races.

Your going off on a tangent.

Crouch left for more than Liverpool paid for him. He chose to leave to pursue his England chances. His goal/assist record at Anfield weren't bad.

Liverpool were trying to shift Alonso a few months back; thus far he's had a very decent season. If Arsenal or Real Madrid should bid for him, by your logic they'd be purchasing damaged goods. Ridiculous.

Nobody is remotely suggesting that we pay the 11M that Liverpool so obviously overpaid for the teenaged Diouf nor the 16M Spurs paid for Bent.

It seems that you're allowing your dislike of TND to cloud all sense of perspective.

Any Roque replacement will have to be pretty impressive...or else.

Or else...........?

Or else - Blackburn fans will be forced to swallow excuse and excuse about how no "value for money" (i.e. "cheap") players were available, and the board are confident Jason Roberts can fire us to safety?

I have to say Nicko, I've always been rather impressed by your views on football and players, but I find your admiration for Peter Crouch quite bewildering.

sorry Nicko (and the rest of the board!)

any idea if the Micah Richards to villa is true? any other possible villa singings before the end of the window?

looking forward to my first ewood experience on the 7th too think we've nearly sold out the away end now!

But they weren't good either - They were TOTALLY AVERAGE, which is exactly what we will get if we pursue players of this calibre.

No-one at the club (and only around half the fans on this board) seem capable of "thinking big". [no "Peter Crouch is tall" jokes please.]

Why not go after a big player, a superstar-in-the-making, a talent to excite the fans. We might not be successful in signing them, but at least we can try. I'd be disappointed to be linked with Diouf, Bent and Crouch if we were in the Championship.

How do you know what we've tried?

And wasn't Villanueva a signing that excited the fans? Hardly set the place alight has he?

I'd like to see Danny Simpson get run back to Manchester myself. If he was foreign no-one would care about him at all, and he'd already be gone.

quite right, jan.

simpson has offered us nothing. he scares the life out of me! he's had more than enough chances to prove himself, and he's just got worse.

im in salford a lot at the moment, so dont mind taking him!

im not very excited with the proposed diouf and crouch signings- but as i sad when big sam was appointed "he's here to keep us up and i dont care how he does it."

Ok so Spit is in, my comments still stand about him as a person but as long as he is in a Rovers shirt I'll support him.

I'm a fan of Crouch and in todays market anything less than 10m wouldn't be that bad but the fact of the matter is that although we keep making profits on players in circa 6 months we might well have sold Friedel, Bentley and Santa Cruz to replace them with Robinson, Diouf and Crouch which makes us significantly weaker in my opinion however you look at it.

Still if Roque does want to go then I'm not that supportive of keeping players who don't want to be at the club so Crouch would be a decent replacement, if he is on 90k as some have reported though then it could be a massive stumbling block, I don't think a Rovers play has been on anywhere near that before, would he be the one to start the trend??

Sorry Spencey7 but your criticism of 'around half the fans on this board' is ridiculous. You seem like a very angry person, for whatever reason, please just consider calming down with the unjustified criticism of everything and everyone.

Most fans on this board are realistic and understand the financial limitations of our club. Unfortunately, that means we can't be like Spurs or City etc. Who knows what is going on behind the scenes, only the people who know what the club CAN do can make realistic decisions and set realistic targets.

Like yourself, I would love to see some incredibly exciting talent, as would everyone but the truth is we are in a relegation battle which would seriously damage the clubs future if the worst was to happen. Now is not the time to be looking for exciting talent. We need players who are going to stand up and be counted and who can meet the rigours of our very physically demanding team.

All of Diouf, Bent and Crouch are good enough to play in our first team.

Nicko, is there any possibility that the murmurs around Crouch are just a vehicle to force down the price for another target, i.e. Janko?

Like others have pointed out, if Crouch is available for 10m, why isn't Harry in for him?

As far as the midfield goes, bottom line is if we can get a player better then Keith Andrews who can pass a ball forwards 1 time in 10 then a deal should be done. As he's something of a first team regular as a result of injuries then that will be directly improving the team.

I can't believe there is nobody available within this budget (assuming 20m for Cruz) that meets this description.

You would have thought Harry would want him with Crouch being ex-Tottenham and all. Chimbonda, Defoe etc.

We'll be able to sing Tottenham Reject at half their starting eleven soon!

For anyone who thinks the Spurs interest in Roque is a wee makie-uppie...

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/footbal...al-1520260.html

Wallace gets his Spurs info from a source quite close to the horse...maybe the pony, if you know what I mean.

Interesting take on it - if you can decode some of the copy.

That leaves Spurs with just one more major target, the Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz, whose asking price of £22m is way above what Spurs can afford.

I thought they had bid £20m or have I dreamt that? Surely 22m is not "way above" 20m in the grand scheme of things.
