roversmad95 Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 on a a transfer related point this window closes at 5 but the summer one closed at midnight, so we won't need to be up late monday to know what deals are done? speak for yourself im in asia 8 hours in front of the uk....
roversmad95 Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Seriously, take the Bent + cash offer and get it over with. i agree... bent+huddlestone plus 10mill take it....
Gav Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 I'd tell both Spurs and City to sod off. Both have had a month to sort out a deal, but want to weaken our position in the league so leave it until the last day. Spurs really could go down without another striker on board, I’d play them at their own game and leave them without one by pulling the plug tomorrow afternoon on any deal whatever the ammount.
philipl Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 I cannot post the links in the transfer links section for some reason but it looks like Spurs are getting to agreement with Liverpool on Keane which probably means the hopes for a higher bid from Spuds are receding quickly. Meantime City have had the nerve to place a story that their budget might not reach to buying both Given and Santa Cruz as if that might rush Rovers into accepting their fifth inadequate offer whilst NU rightly play hardball over Given. The other version doing the rounds is City will get to offering £20m tomorrow. I suppose an awful lot depends on the discussions between Gaydamak and Storrie that are happening at present. They need to save yet more cash at Pompey whilst they have a badly performing manager who is going to blame sales of players over his departure so is currently blackmailing them for his resignation over what they do next to his squad. Very unclear as to exactly what happens there now- depends on how pressing the Gaydamaks' current cash crisis is vs the probabilities and losses of relegation. If the second scan on Defoe's foot today is OK, then Spurs are almost certainly out of the running for RSC. Last night I felt the odds were fairly decisively on Rovers getting a knock-out offer for RSC. If you read this morning's press on Hughes, the media has turned decisively against him following the abject performance at Stoke and the particularly awful display by De Jong (whom they overpaid by £16m or so for the priviledge of having him play a maximum of 17 games this season- £1m a game give or take....). The chances of Sparky demanding and Mansoor providing have slipped in the last 24 hours. Links now posted
Kelbo Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 One of Santas reasons for moving is Hughes!! he is now under pressure and could be gone soon!!! Neither Spuds or City are safe from relegation, this is getting interesting, however, we do look a real team with Dunn and Grella in midfield, add a wide threat from 'Spit' and we could be in business.
67splitscreen Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 speak for yourself im in asia 8 hours in front of the uk.... At least I'm only 6 hrs, good old British winter time.
thenodrog Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 ................ however, we do look a real team with Dunn and Grella in midfield, add a wide threat from 'Spit' and we could be in business. Correct. Lets hope our injury situation with those two is over.
blue and whites Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 what about cash+ elano in a deal for roque. he would certainly give us what we need when in form, if he plays regulary and is happy, he is exceptional! and he is avalible as well

Another Carlos Kickaball imo. Apart from the odd assist I've seen nothing there to get excited about and especially so concerning contributing anything to gritty relegation battles.
they_think_its_all_rover Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 RE: Darren Bent; "9.20 According to a couple of those in the know on Fleet Street, Hull City have emerged as shock contenders to land Tottenham striker Darren Bent & Ross Turnbull." Told you I'd heard he was a name being considered by Hull City, Mr.Nixon.
roversmad95 Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 so nicko, anything exciting happening this morning? this being the last full day i would expect a lot of phone calls going on....
nicko Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Checked the papers - and the Spurs-Roque follow-up in particular. A couple of thoughts. The story was with Sam's 'managerial approval' I would suggest. WOULD sell at the right price and if a replacement is in. DOESN'T fancy Bent in the swap. DOES want Crouch. Those pars were not from me...
Iceman Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Still say cash + Johnson and City can have Cruz. Benni and Roberts up top, Diouf down the left and Johnson down the right. Grella and Dunn in midfield.
dingles staying down 4ever Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Still say cash + Johnson and City can have Cruz. Benni and Roberts up top, Diouf down the left and Johnson down the right. Grella and Dunn in midfield. Johnson is a crock...we've too many of those in midfield already
Guest Kamy100 Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 To late to sell RSC now, there is no way that we will get an adequate replacement in at this stage. If we sell him now we will regret it in May. Also if people are looking at getting a replacement from Europe then we need to look at when the transfer window shuts in specific countries, for example in Spain the transfer window shuts tonight. Funnily enough the weather could wreck the last day of the window as there is huge amount of snow due across the country, going to be difficult for those last minutes dashes across the country!

Unless the adequate replacement is already in place[doubt it], but entering into the last few hours the price should be increased if City bid as compensation for the messing around they've done.
they_think_its_all_rover Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Nicko, any truth Spurs are to be docked points for fielding Palacios when he was suspended?
nicko Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Nicko, any truth Spurs are to be docked points for fielding Palacios when he was suspended? None at all. Who put that around? Was checked yesterday [by me] and Spurs got round the rules...again.
AndyNeil Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 IF RSC is still playing for Rovers after the transfer window closes I just hope those idiots who were still booing him when his name was announced as a sub on Wednesday night will get off his back ... they are only making themselves look like idiots (I would use a stronger word, but it is Sunday and kids read this as well as adults). I'm a firm believer than a combo of Tugay, Dunn and RSC can keep us up so get behind the team, and that means the WHOLE team!
Fylde Coast Fan Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Still say cash + Johnson and City can have Cruz. Benni and Roberts up top, Diouf down the left and Johnson down the right. Grella and Dunn in midfield. Johnson's as much a right winger as Dunny is, and according to multiple reports is a Big Time Charlie character with a persistent injury that doctors cannot diagnose yet is enough to keep him in the pub cashing his oversized Man City wages. Totally wrong for our club.
they_think_its_all_rover Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 None at all. Who put that around? Was checked yesterday [by me] and Spurs got round the rules...again. It's all over the net and on loads of forums; This one taken from BBC606 - Tottenham should (depending on the FA having some backbone) be fined about 5 points. When they signed Palacios he was carrying over a 2 game suspension. He was cup-tied for the FA Cup match against Man Utd meaning that game doesn't count so the second game he should have missed out was the one against Bolton today, which he played in. Droyslden got thrown out of the FA Cup and Oxford United got a 5 point fine not long ago for something similar so if the FA have any backbone against a Premiership club then they should get a 5 point fine and be bottom of the table again.
philipl Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Amazingly, and I am not defending it, the Man U Cup game counted towards a game for the suspension.
Kelbo Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Nicko, Watching Santa yesterday, his movement, link up play, not to mention every ball knocked to him was 'killed' we will be hard pressed to find a replacement, but if he were to leave and at such a late stage, is Crouch still a possibility? Pompey look in freefall and Newcastle could struggle without Barton and Owen plus the Insomnia episode so Crouch may feel Rovers have a chance of survival!
