roversinmyblood Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Got to watch out for the Topic Police...but here is some interesting news...no idea what the repercussions are for Rovers but it could have a knock-on effect on the whole market. A top move is in jeopardy because a leading player has failed a medical. Arteta? The buying club don't know whether to press on or drop the idea.- Arsenal? The selling club need to sell to get money for a striker. - Everton? The striker they want is at a club who need to sell him...to bid for a Rovers player. - Striker Bent/Jo? That is how stupid the market is at this time. I won't name the player...it's possible the move will happen on a 'staged payments' tomorrow. But by then it could be too late for the rest of us.
Hughesy Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Jo is going Everton on loan, so that rules him out.
allrovertheworld Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 forgive my ignorance but could someone fill me in on this 'stroke boy' phenomenon Stroke boy is a chap who appears on SSN as the transfer clock counts down. He gets his name from the expression on his face evrytime a transfer is suggested or BREAKING NEWS comes in. He looks like he is going to have a stroke at the slightest suggestion of a move in the transfer market. Best bit about him though was his apparent endless supply of mobile phones which he would have buzzing and beeping with insider information on the lastest tranny news. Hope they have him on this time although this scottish chap looks like he is here to stay.
RibbleValleyRover Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Given failed or having problems passing the medical?
rovers1995 Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 I'm worried i don't think the rovers player is Santa Cruz as nicko hasn't mentioned a name.
herbergeehh Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 The money isn't really the issue anymore though, is it? Because Rovers won't sell until Crouch is signed, which he won't do as it is at the moment.
VillaSimon Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Wasnt Shay Given having a medical today? Newcastle may need a striker? owen injured again? maybe they want bent? Spurs want money for cruz? oh I give up Nicko give us another clue
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 That occurred to me as well, but who else do we have who would require a club spending substantial cash on? If they need to sell before they can buy, it's not going to be under 5m. I don't know who we have who is over 5m really. Benni? Pedersen? Emerton? Dunn? Samba? Nelsen? Warnock? Grella? Roberts? Now I've typed that there could be several... Samba or Warnock would be my guesses.
niklasnorman Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Given failed his medical at Man city. Newcastle needs to sell him before they can buy Darren Bent. Tottenham needs to sell Bent before they can buy Santa Cruz. Maybe
budha Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Given failed his medical at Man city. Or N'Zogbia at Wigan. Maybe.
mclove Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Nicko thanks for the most vague report ever!! I can see Stroke Boy having a coronary trying to figure that one out
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Given failed his medical at Man city. Newcastle needs to sell him before they can buy Darren Bent. Tottenham needs to sell Bent before they can buy Santa Cruz. Maybe That was my train of thought as well, but Nicko has said in the past Spurs "have the money". So they wouldn't need to sell if this is the case. EDIT: By the way Nicko, putting it in such complex format is a brilliant way of tricking Stroke boy. He'll be getting wheeled off for a post mortem as we speak after trying to decipher that.
herbergeehh Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 City does need to sell, if the reports are accurate - because after signing Given, they've spent 90m of the 100m available, apparently?
RibbleValleyRover Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Samba or Warnock would be my guesses. Mine as well, Newcastle have been sniffing around them for some time. No chance though after 5 clean sheets in 7 games will Sam make any changes to our defensive line, especially Samba who has been our rock.
Hughesy Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Given failed his medical at Man city. Newcastle needs to sell him before they can buy Darren Bent. Tottenham needs to sell Bent before they can buy Santa Cruz. Maybe Looks likely. Just been on bluemoon site and its Given who failed, so newcastle want Bent? Tottenham want Roque!

Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 He's the chap who sounds like he has an extra mobile with a hotline to Fergie up his rectum. And he constantly refers to his "mates", Arry, Philly, Marky and That Fat Lad Rafa.
alexanders Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 16.15 Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear says Shay Given's move to Manchester City is still some way from going through due to unresolved 'haggling' between the two clubs.
BRFC1995 Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 man city are the only team that would'nt outrighht scrap a deal because a medical failed. sincerely hope dennis wise buys more garbage tomorrow, zero risk of warnock or samba being interested in newcastle either. find it hard to believe kinnear was thick enugh to even ask about hyppia jumping ship for that black and white shambles.

Professor Plum in the library with the candlestick................... Ok then we now know Given's move to Citeh has stalled. The obvious scenario is Newcastle are after Bent and Spuds need the money to bid 20m plus for Roque. But perhaps the barcodes are after Crouch and Portsmouth are after someone like McCarthy/Samba? I seriously hope it's all completely irrelevant and that we wouldn't even entertain any offers for our better players at this stage.
nicko Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Terrific working out in some quarters...top stuff...best bit of the day so far. I am just waiting to see how long it is until Gilbert and Sullivan Boy comes on to the strains of 'ta-run-ta-run-ta-run' to break into song and tell us about it.
