Seems to me given the lack of hard information coming out, no-one has any idea at all who our real targets are and that Sam is playing things very close to his chest.

Either that or we don't have any specific targets in mind at this point.

Profound stuff.

Which chip on which shoulder contributed this then?

Nicko's earth shattering revelation that we will be looking at a couple of foreign players and in all probability some domestic ones as well.

Nothing like keeping your options open.

New Year's Day hangover Mr. Philip?

Having too many power cuts in Malta it seems lol. can see some pulling their hair out this transfer window again, with nothing happening until 2nd February

If City decide to keep their powder dry to try to drive down prices at the end of the window, that is what will happen and clubs like West Ham, Pompey and Liverpool will bleed rather than perspire.

I completley disagree.

i wouldn't say he's shocking but his defensive capabilities aren't his stongest point. he is a great wing back, but not as good a full back, if you get the distinction. fantastic alongside a good right winger, with a very strong couple of centre halves and holding midfielder. for me its a holding player we desperately need, unless the sun shines on vogel any time soon.

as for Lauren, i read johnson was lined-up for a move away from pompey, is there much substance in this nicko? if so, would it not follow that this would make lauren first choice rightback, and nullify the prospect of a move for him?

Hughes was on the radio tonight saying that they had made "encouraging" progress on several fronts with their enquiries and that he hoped to have some new players in by "this time next week."

If it happens it might kick start some earlier action than is typically the case. Personally I've never understood the practice of doing business at 2359 on January 31st. If you think a player will significantly stengthen your team, get him in on January 2nd.

its quite straightforward really.

an imminent deadline focuses the minds of vendor and purchaser, if there is any potential in the deal. the further away the deadline, the greater the insubstantive posturing etc

Lauren has done an interview in which he claims he will move to either turkey or greece in january. He is past his best anyway and not the sprt we should be trying to sign.

Possibly, I assumed it was a bargaining tool to try and push price down/up as appropriate.

However if there was no window at all, clubs would just endeavour to get players they wanted in asap. They wouldn't say "We desperately need player x but I think we'll just leave it until the end of the month instead."

It's a bit of strategy as well. If Hughes leaves it until the last minute to bid for and sign Roque then we won't be in a position to spend any of the transfer funds during the window. This means he will be stronger than at least one of the teams around him. It'd be good if we could force them to bid by 15th Jan or we refuse. All depends what if anything the clause says and whether Sam still wants the player.

Well...he did for 12 months.

The only thing that makes me want a new right back is that I want to see Emerton back in central midfield, but he's a perfectly capable full back should we require him to play there. People go on about him not being great in there air, but neither are players like Bosingwa, Arbeloa, Sagna, Rafael etc. It's not very often a full back will come up against an aerially strong winger so it's not really much of a problem.

Brett greatest strenght is he is a good all-rounder and thats his biggest problem as well. Perhaps he'll do a Barry and step inside, who knows.

Bretts lack of strenghten in the air is as you say not a problem, however the mistake made is brett is nowhere near as quick as Bosingwa, Sagna or Rafael when they stray to far up-field they have the pace to get back in. An attacking fullback must have pace. Brett does not stop crosses he stands to far off his man, bad positioning.

The one question I always asked myself is what would Hughes have done if he'd had enough money to replace Gray that summer?

We need to get away from putting square pegs in round holes brett at full back is an example. I really like Brett but if I'm being honest I'd keep him where he is, he prefers playing there, for now.

really hope it all goes tits up at City!I mean they were awful vs us so why would someone

swap Milan, Madrid for City? RSC is going for cash thats all! 18million is ridiculous,

We should be on the phone hurrying the deal i mean 14M profit in just over a year.

If SA is given the cash he could make this squad a lot stronger!

And people said we bought the title? hahaha!

Just showed the sport back pages for papers tomorrow. On one of the back pages the headline is 'Roque set to Roll' and says Man City are to trigger £18 million release clause in his contract.

Zzzzzzzzz

Its getting boring. If he wants to go let him! at the end of the day I trust Allardyce to spend the cash well , unlike Fowler... sorry.... Winterburn.... sorry........ Andrews.... sorry.... INCE

No one is bigger than the club and we will soldier on

4million for both ben haim and diouf-you cant really go wrong with..

ben haim would be a good replacement for the ageing andre ooijer-altho he is slow(like slow) he is good at reading the game and would be a good signing..

diouf-can play in different positions-has some decent pace on him-its his dirty antics that put me off...

anyone who we buy i trust sam allardyce..

As long as Sam gets most of the cash to spend i think most fans wouldn't be against a Roque sale. The problem is will he get the cash? Its pointless selling him if Sam doesn't see a penny of it.

Not that keen on Tal Ben-Haim and El-Hadji Diouf being targets. I'm assuming Ben-Haim will be Ooijer's replacement if he goes back to Holland and provide cover for Nelsen and Samba, though i would look at someone younger and likely cheaper. Not a fan of Diouf at all for many reasons both in terms of his footballing talent and his personality.

I should think in these circumstances that Big Sam would be looking at wantaway Spurs players for quality. Stories are surfacing that Harry wants a significant chunk of his players shipped, and these players include or could include Hutton, Kevin Boateng, Adel Taarabt, Ricardo Rocha and even Hossam Ghaly on reasonable prices, all of whom would do a job for us at this point in time..

Opinions?
