steverovers Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 If Lucas Neill or Spit The Dog would help us to improve and beat the drop, I suggest we should try and sign both of them!

Al Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 i don't get this place. sooo negative nearly all of the time and always desperdo for an early story that will break in a few days time anyway. you can get on with your life and find out later on and not end up paranoid waiting for some form of development. with the amount of false stories it isnt really worth it. i also hate the fact this place is called a rumour mill. i apologise, i have been away for a while and got me a new profile, whats the news on warnock outwards? apologies if this a popular question, was just wondering Who are ya!
Tom 1 Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Neill is nothing special, certainly not worth swallowing pride and re-signing over. He did the dirty for a big pay packet I think all neutrals like myself would agree, he isn't that good a player at all and the thought of like 50/60k a week...well it's embarassing really isn't it. Wouldn't bother with it.
chris Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I accept your apology for being away from the message board, just don't let bit happen again
thenodrog Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 This is bullshit. He announced that he was going to let his contract run out so that prospective clubs knew there would be no fee.You can call that honouring his contract if you like but you're naive if you believe it. This was intended to widen the range of potential interest and increase the salary offers and had absolutely nothing to do with loyalty to us. He was interested only in himself. Thank goodness Hughes was able to offload him 6 months earlier and get us the fee for Warnock. If you think that the vast majority of pro footballers are not only interested in themselves? It's you who is the one exhibiting most naivety. How much loyalty do you expect to see displayed by players and clubs alike this coming month?
47er Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 If you think that the vast majority of pro footballers are not only interested in themselves? It's you who is the one exhibiting most naivety. How much loyalty do you expect to see displayed by players and clubs alike this coming month? I think most footballers are exactly as you describe. My response was to a post which suggested somehow that Neill was better than that! Keep up!
dave birch Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I'd also like to see Emerton shoot from distance a bit more - something he obviously can't do from his normal position(s), but could from the middle. I have never seen Emerton as a winger. For me, his best position has been as an attacking full back, but rather than using the wing he comes in and runs the right channel that an old fashioned inside right would take. He has scored a couple of goals doing this for Australia, and has done so at the end of a dribble. I would have thought that Souness would have turned Bert into a more complete midfielder, but it was not to be. As for Neill, we should never go back for an ex player, always look to the future.
Iceman Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 The important thing that people must understand, we not going to get super star players in now. The players we will sign will be players that will keep us up, experienced, hard workers and players who will give us a bit of extra energy. I think once our survival has been ensured, then i think there will be a mass clear out in the summer, but not now.

That's right, Souness made rather a mess of Emerton to be honest. He was never suited to the sideline-hugging style of play, and when he first arrived at Blackburn Emerton was actually a very, very good dribbler (although he's rather rusty nowadays), best suited to cutting inside and playing shorter crosses on the ground or taking a shot from range. It was Souness who insisted that Emerton focus on running headlong for the corner and then trying to put a cross in, and who dropped him when that failed to work.
Iceman Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Daily Express says Sam could be interested in both Diouf and Pascal Chimbonda. Source BBC gossip page.
dingles staying down 4ever Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Daily Express says Sam could be interested in both Diouf and Pascal Chimbonda. Source BBC gossip page. Reading the gossip page - the key word is 'could'.
Iceman Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Yes could is the key word, however i think Sam is going for experienced players. Still think Torosides is a better option, but not sure what he might cost.
philipl Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 15 Sunderland 20 -8 22 16 Tottenham 20 -5 20 17 Middlesbrough 20 -12 20 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18 Stoke 20 -15 20 19 Blackburn 20 -14 18 20 West Brom 20 -19 18 Reality check for all the moaners on here. An awful lot of pride has been swallowed in taking Sam and I expect a lot more will be swallowed when the window is done because of the damage twenty-odd weeks of Ince has done to our club. Is Lucas Neill ideal- no? Will he help sort that mess of a league table out- yes? Key question: Is he available on terms we can do and would he come? The key question is THE determining factor in this window. And that is going to narrow the field dramatically.
Mc Love Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Key question: Is he available on terms we can do and would he come? Thats just it isnt it Phil? The terms, I say nothing over 25k or forget about him
philipl Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Looks very unlikely we will sign anybody then if you apply that sort of reasoning to all prospects. You have to look at total cost of ownership.
Bobby G Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Neill was media rubbish Im sure. Todays papers say Chimbonda and Diouf could both join us...
dingles staying down 4ever Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Neill was media rubbish Im sure. Todays papers say Chimbonda and Diouf could both join us... Chimbonda is a trouble maker and cry baby of the highest order. If there is a grain of truth in that link I'd be very surprised. If given the option of Chimbonda or Neill I'd rather take Neill back
dlukeg1 Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Can't find refernce to RSC contract in people - anyone else found it? Nicko is it in there?
Mc Love Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Looks very unlikely we will sign anybody then if you apply that sort of reasoning to all prospects. You have to look at total cost of ownership. I know what you are saying but in my opninon Neill simply isnt worth it.
Mc Love Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Can't find refernce to RSC contract in people - anyone else found it? Nicko is it in there? Looks unlikely. They have gone with a story about G. Barry and Beattie!
Majiball Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Chimbonda is a trouble maker and cry baby of the highest order. If there is a grain of truth in that link I'd be very surprised. If given the option of Chimbonda or Neill I'd rather take Neill back Chimbonda fits the bill though, experienced prem players fallen from grace. Used to be a french international perhaps Sam wants to turn him round. Not convinced though. Personally if we're after a right back I'd like Hutton, but he's been injured since he signed for spurs. We have enough "andertons" at this club.
JAL Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 An awful lot of pride has been swallowed in taking Sam and I expect a lot more will be swallowed when the window is done because of the damage twenty-odd weeks of Ince has done to our club. Is Lucas Neill ideal- no? Will he help sort that mess of a league table out- yes? Key question: IF, we escape this time Philipl, Rovers supporters should focus their attentions on John Williams, the board and the trusteees, for their own failures in blowing a £40m annual budget on producing a far from effective football team. £40 m a year wages and no decent right back or right winger, Ince was always Ince, the finger of blame has to go on the board for hiring the clown in the first place.
Iceman Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Do you actually think JW and the board will admit to their mistakes Jal? They admitted by sacking Ince, but obviously it was not said “we made a mistake, sorry guys“ its done, and Sam has to now rectify some other guys mistakes.

He should only apologise to the shareholders, anyone else will just have to put up with it
