Could Neill be off the radar now?

JANUARY 03: Lucas Neill, captain of West Ham United, watches on from the stands during a training session at the AC Milan Winter Training Camp at the Al Nasr Sports Club on January 3, 2009 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. (Photo by Ryan Pierse/Getty Images)

EDIT: Scrap that, West Ham are using Milan's physios or something along those lines.

I do not understand that rubbish portsmoth player went to Madrid for 20m but rsc is rumoured to go man city for less.

Strange

You mean Diarra I take it, you need to open your eyes next time you watch him. When he played for the Arsenal " Kids" last season against us he ran their midfield almost on his own. Top player whose been injured recently, wait while he's fit.

Chimbonda at Wigan was as good a right back as there was in the Prem but that was then. He had it all, pace, tackling ability, could pass the ball, he got up and down the pitch well, good header of the ball at both ends of the pitch. That move to Spurs didn't do him any good and he's gone worse at Sunderland. Temperimentally he's a big kid and he would be a massive gamble, you'd have to be very brave to take it, especially if Diouff is in the equation as well. One bad apple is one too many.

The same applies to Neill, I don't want him back especially for that sort of money, he's as accident prone as Ooijer.

Nicko.....regarding the foreign targets,

Whats the reason for holding their names back? are the "deals" not far enough down the line yet?

I was just wondering at what point a journo reports on a transfer?

In one case the player needs to come over for talks first and it's a bit of a tangled web because another club wants him and another agent is on the case. I was hoping this one would stay quiet until it becomes certain where and when he is going.

On the other - Rovers wanted to see the player and he didn't play. So that one is not as far down the line as it could be.

eddies post re: Neill that you described as bullsh1t was spot on. Neill handled his contract situation very professionally and very honourably too imo.

The problem with most Rovers' fans and Neill is that he told the truth. Other players have bit their tongue and engineered moves away quietly without the wrath of Rovers' fans.

He thought he was being offered more money by a club in champions league position and so tried to engineer the move. It did not work out as he planned but another club bailed him out by givinig him a move out of Ewood for a far higher wage.

Mark Hughes appeared to do same by trying to engineer a move to Chelsea and was bailed out in similar circumsatnces by City.

I think it would be best all around if RSC left us. We need players who will fight to keep us up and with one eye on a summer move, is he really gonna do that?? At least Sam can re-invest the cash wisely.

Nicko - if City fail to come in for RSC do you think anyone else would be interested? I think i remember that Villa might have been sniffing around last summer. I think they probably still need a striker.

Cheers!

There is only Man City mad enough to consider such a bid now.

Its not only the money issue, a lot of fans won't want him because he is a liability and is no better than our current options. Do you really want a player renowned for his reckless challenges, giving away freekicks in dangerous positions and giving away pens when you are battling against relegation? When you need every point you can get the last thing you need is Lucas Neill in your side.

Interesting to see Chimbonda linked, the guy has some talent but a huge ego to boot and has never really settled down anywhere. Could Sam get the potential out of him? maybe but it would be a huge gamble IMO. I remember reading something about Lyon being interested in him anyways.

Downing and Spurs could still happen.

Downing is overrated!

Alot of clubs are keen on getting their transfers done and dusted early on...

The transfer deadline day in the summer was ridiculous! The Robinho saga was hilarious!

Our last few transfer windows have been a let down to say the least!

Would be nice to hear the names soon nicko :)

Any premier league clubs interested in Simon Rolfes from Leverkusen i noticed him playing for Germany against England and you said Rovers are after a defensive midfielder? I have no idea of his value although he seems like a good player, big guy to at 6.2ft!

Money talks. Man City have more than Real or Barca.

Chimbonda is a possible. Good player if his head is screwed on.

The story leaked from Sunderland...they want to start an auction.

There is another club after him and currently more keen.

Man City have bid for both Bellamy and Parker.

And Arteta.

And Toure.

Uncle Tom Cobley on the list too.

Michael Owen not among them. He would love a big wage and being closer to his horses, but it's not happening.

What would Owen's price be? If RSC went to Man City - what about Owen for Rovers as RSC replacement.

Joaquin's fee could have been less if a bid had been made.

Rovers went to see him twice and were told he was interested and available.

And that is another big thankyou to Pince I believe but of course I lie through my teeth when sober whicch is all the time.

The way to look at the RSC situation is this:

City can undoubtedly sign Bellamy And Parker for the same amount as RSC this month and City have the problem of not knowing what price for sure gets Roque.

The problem for Roque is there is a falling Market out there and he either gets lucky with Sparky both surviving the chop and being strong enough in Ali Barbar's den to be able to buy him OR else he's got to be superman 2nd half of season and shoot at least 10 more goals to make £20m look a good buy.

Looking at the market in general, it is completely screwed until City have spent their £60m. Every seller of a good player will hang on hoping for a City premium and won't trade at credit crunch prices until City are out of the way.

Rovers simply have to work in their relegation-avoidance space assuming Roque stays and get on with it. Villa and Spurs on the other hand are being totally messed up by having City trundling around out there.

West Ham and Pompey are literally gambling on their existance hoping City take one or more of their stars and could become the equivalent of Woolies round about 25 January if they get it wrong.

Either way Rovers are winners IF we stay up.

Has that situation changed? Valencia needs money, we need a right winger?

Podolski would be a dream come through by the way.

One look at the Premier League table would tell me that Rovers have to be a bit more realistic with their targets right now.

People with experience, the odd available desperado...you can't be buying big when you could be in the Championship.

Got to keep it real.
